The result of a feasibility study to measure the Λ polarization in associated K + – Λ electro-production is presented. This measurement was performed in the experimental Hall C at Jefferson Lab. The scattered electron was detected in the HMS spectrometer, and the electro-produced kaon and the proton from the Λ → pπ − decay were both detected in the SOS spectrometer. This quantity is very sensitive to the elementary p ( e , e ′ K ) Λ process and gives information on resonance production, and Regge exchange, among others. The result presented was measured at Q 2 =1.50 (GeV/c) 2 and cos θ Kγ CM =14°. The limits of the Λ polarization, with respect to the p γ × p K axis, were found to be −0.21 and +0.89 with a confidence level of 68%. The result is compared to theoretical predictions based on an effective hadronic field Lagrangian model and a Regge framework model.

A 7.5 GeV linearly polarized photon beam was used to study ϱ 0 production on d, n and p in the SLAC 82 inch bubble chamber. The production of ϱ 0 is found to proceed mainly via t -channel natural parity exchange and to conserve s -channel c.m.s. helicity for small t . The I = 1 contribution to the γ N → ϱ 0 t -channel amplitude is found to be small at 7.5 GeV.

We have measured the polarization parameter in π − p→K + Σ − backward scattering at 3.5 GeV/ c incident momentum, in the u -range −0.6< u <0.1 GeV 2 . The apparatus consisted of a polarized target in a spectrometer magnet, counter hodoscopes for time-of-flight measurements, a large water Čerenkov counter for kaon tagging, and wire spark chambers. After identification of the kaons, the reaction was selected by a missing-mass technique. An isospin analysis has been carried out to separate the contributions of the various isospin exchange amplitudes in the u -channel.

We have searched for signatures of polarization in hadronic jets from $Z~0 \rightarrow q \bar{q}$ decays using the ``jet handedness'' method. The polar angle asymmetry induced by the high SLC electron-beam polarization was used to separate quark jets from antiquark jets, expected to be left- and right-polarized, respectively. We find no evidence for jet handedness in our global sample or in a sample of light quark jets and we set upper limits at the 95\% C.L. of 0.063 and 0.099 respectively on the magnitude of the analyzing power of the method proposed by Efremov {\it et al.}
Polarized E- beam. Events were classified as being of light or heavy flavors based on impact parameters of charged tracks measured in the vertex detector. Jet handedness are measured for helicity-based and chirality-based analysis (seetext). C=95PCT CL indicates the upper limits at the 95 PCT C.L. on the magnitudes.
Inclusive Λ production has been studied in K − p interactions at 8.25 GeV/ c using about 69 000 events; the total cross section is found to be 3.35 ± 0.20 mb. A comparison has been made with Σ 0 and Σ(1385) inclusive production. Their influence on the inclusive Λ production is discussed. The inclusive Λ cross section and polarization is interpreted in terms of the triple-Regge model. In the target fragmentation region an effective Regge trajectory is determined which lies closer to the K than to the K ∗ . In the beam fragmentation region the cross-section data indicate an effective Regge trajectory which corresponds to the nucleon, while the polarization data require additional Regge exchanges to be present.

Differential cross sections and polarizations are presented for the reactions K − p → Λπ 0 , Λη , Λη ′ at 8.25 GeV/ c incident K − momentum. We present measurements of the differential and polarization cross sections for the reactions KL0p→Ks0p, Λπ+, Σ0π+, and Λπ+π0 made in a hydrogen bubble chamber exposed to a beam of KL0 with incident momentum 550±35 MeV/c. The quasielastic data imposes additional constraints on the partial-wave analyses of the KN and K¯N systems. Our data show no strong energy-dependent effects in the region of the reported Σ(1580), JP=32− state. The phase of the forward regeneration amplitude was found to be about - 160° independent of KL0 momentum.

Cross sections, differential cross sections, and hyperon polarization results are presented for the reactions K¯0p→Λπ+ and K¯0p→Σ0π+ in the momentum interval 1 to 12 GeV/c. Emphasis is placed on the comparison of Λ and Σ channels, and on the momentum dependences of the data. In particular, the Λ polarization data are consistent with being independent of energy above 2 GeV/c; and the slopes of the forward cross sections are found to increase toward the slope values for the line-reversed reactions πp→K(Λ,Σ) as energy increases.
