We have measured dijet angular distributions at √s =1.8 TeV with the Collider Detector at Fermilab and the Tevatron p¯p Collider and find agreement with leading-order QCD. By comparing the distribution for the highest dijet invariant masses with the prediction of a model of quark compositeness, we set a lower limit on the associated scale parameter Λc at 330 GeV (95% C.L.).

Photoproduction of Charged pi Mesons from Hydrogen and Deuterium in the Energy Range Between 250-MeV and 790-MeV

Inspire Record 108476 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.8405

The differential cross sections for γ p→ π + n from hydrogen and the π − π + ratios from deuterium were measured at nine c.m. angles between 30° and 150° for laboratory photon energies between 260 and 800 MeV. A magnetic spectrometer with three layers of scintillation hodoscope was used to detect charged π mesons. The cross section for γ n→ π − p was obtained as a product of d σ d Ω (γ p →π + n ) and the π − π + ratio. The overall features in the cross sections of the two reactions, γ p→ π + n and γ n→ π − p, and in the ratios, π − π + , agree with predictions by Moorhouse, Oberlack and Rosenfeld, and Metcalf and Walker. An investigation of the possible existence of an isotensor current was made and a negative result was found. In detailed balance comparison with the new results on the inverse reaction π − p→ γ n, no apparent violation of time-reversal invariance was observed.

Sigma- p elastic scattering in the region of 400-MeV/c < p(Sigma-) < 700-MeV/c with a scintillating-fiber active target.

We have performed a hyperon-proton scattering experiment with a scintillating fiber active target. The Σ − p, Λ p and Σ + p scattering have been studied with the same experimental setup. In this paper, we present the differential cross sections of the Σ − p elastic scattering in the momentum region from 400 to 700 MeV /c . This is the first measurement of the Σ − p elastic scattering in the momentum region where the P- and higher waves contributions are important. The present data are in good agreement with the one boson exchange model (Bonn–Jülich model A) and the quark cluster model (FSS of Kyoto–Niigata model).

Measurement of the Differential Cross-sections of $e^+ e^- \to \gamma \gamma$ and $e^+ e^- \to \gamma \gamma \gamma$ at $\sqrt{s}=55$-{GeV}, 56-{GeV}, 56.5-{GeV} and 57-{GeV} and Search for Unstable Photino Pair Production

Z.Phys.C 45 (1989) 175, 1989.
Inspire Record 280669 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15298

Differential cross sections fore+e−→γγ have been measured at center-of-mass energies of 55, 56, 56.5 and 57 GeV. The results are in good agreement with those predicted by QED. Possible deviations from QED are studied in terms of contact interactions, and the limits on compositeness scales are obtained. Using events with a gramma pair in the final state, a search is made for the pair production of unstable photons,\(e^ +e^ -\to \tilde \gamma\tilde \gamma \). No candidate events were found and a new limit on the photino mass is obtained.

Measurement of the Reactions $e^+ e^- \to \mu^+ \mu^-$ and $e^+ e^- \to \tau^+ \tau^-$ Between $\sqrt{s}=50$-{GeV} and 60.8-{GeV}

The angular distributions of the reactione+e−→μ+μ− ande+e+→τ+τ− have been measured between\(\sqrt s= 50\) and 60.8 GeV with the VENUS detector at TRISTAN. The average total cross section and the forward-backward charge asymmetry for μ-pair production are observed to be 28.3±1.4±0.8 pb and (−29.0−4.8+5.0±0.5)%, and those for τ-pair production are 27.6±1.7±1.0 pb and (−32.8−6.2+6.4±1.5)% at\(\langle \sqrt s \rangle \). These values are consistent with the predictions of the standard model of electroweak interactions.

Precise measurement of Bhabha scattering at a center-of-mass energy of 57.77-GeV.

Bhabha scattering at a center-of-mass energy of 57.77 GeV has been measured using the VENUS detector at KEK TRISTAN. The precision is better than 1% in scattering angle regions of |cosθ|⩽0.743 and 0.822⩽cosθ⩽0.968. A model-independent scattering-angle distribution is extracted from the measurement. The distribution is in good agreement with the prediction of the standard electroweak theory. The sensitivity to underlying theories is examined, after unfolding the photon-radiation effect. The q2 dependence of the photon vacuum polarization, frequently interpreted as a running of the QED fine-structure constant, is directly observed with a significance of three standard deviations. The Z0 exchange effect is clearly seen when the distribution is compared with the prediction from QED (photon exchanges only). The agreement with the standard theory leads us to constraints on extensions of the standard theory. In all quantitative discussions, correlations in the systematic error between angular bins are taken into account by employing an error matrix technique.

Differential cross sections for elastic pi+ p scattering between 1.2 and 2.3 GeV/c

Phys.Rev.D 10 (1974) 3556-3572, 1974.
Inspire Record 97248 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.238

Differential cross sections for π+p elastic scattering in the momentum region 1.2 to 2.3 GeV/c are presented for the center-of-mass angular range 0.9>cosθ>−0.9. Typically, 50 000 events were obtained at each of 16 momenta using magnetostrictive-readout wire spark chambers to detect the particles scattered from a liquid hydrogen target. The results are compared to those of the CERN-71 phase-shift analysis. The well-known dips at t≅−0.7 (GeV/c)2 and at u′=−0.2 (GeV/c)2 are observed. In addition, structure is seen at constant u′=−1.3 (GeV/c)2. The results of a pion attenuation study in iron are also presented.
