We have measured the absolute cross section σ(θ) and complete sets of spin observables A00ij in He3(p,p) elastic scattering at energies of 200 and 500 MeV. The observables depend on linear combinations of six complex scattering amplitudes for the p−3He system and provide a severe test of current reaction models. The in-scattering plane observables (A00mm, A00ll, A00lm, and A00ml) are all in quantitative disagreement with fully microscopic nonrelativistic optical model calculations and nonrelativistic distorted wave Born approximation calculations.

Measurement of secondary-proton polarization from the reaction γ p → π 0 p have been performed in the proton energy range 500–800 MeV at c.m. pion emission angles 100°, 120°, 140°. The experiment was carried out using an optical spark chamber telescope at the output of the magnetic spectrometer. The obtained experimental data are included in a Walker-type analysis in order to verify the parameters of the resonances P 11 (1470), D 13 (1570) and S 11 (1535). Proton polarization in the reaction γ p → π 0 p was measured for a photon energy of 450 MeV at a c.m. pion emission angle of 105° using photons linearly polarized at 45° to the reaction plane. A liquid hydrogen target in the field of a superconducting magnet was used for the separation of the P x ′ and P z ′ components of the secondary-proton polarization vector.

Helicity conservation in the reaction π − p → pA 1 at 4.45 GeV/ c has been studied using 50 cm and 55 cm liquid hydrogen bubble chambers. In the Jackson and the helicity frames the dependence of the ϱ matrix elements on the four-momentum transfer squared to the proton ( t ) for A 1 maximum decay has been calculated. The obtained data are in a good agreement with t -channel helicity conservation. The t -channel dependence of the ϱ matrix elements in the mentioned frames is in good agreement with that calculated using the Regge π-pole exchange model (it is suggested that the A 1 maximum nature is explained by a kinematical effect of the Deck type).
