Differential cross section data of the CELLO experiment on pair production of muons, taus, and heavy quarks ine+e−-annihilation are presented and analysed, together with our data on Bhabha scattering, in terms of compositeness effects characterized by the mass scale Λ. We discuss difficulties in the combination of limits Λ from different experiments. The appropriate parameter to combine different results turns out to be ɛ=±1/Λ2, which is in contrast to Λ Gaussian distributed.

The differential cross sections of the reactions e + e − → e + e − and e + e − → λλ are measured at energies between 33.0 and 36.7 GeV. The results agree with the predictions of quantum electrodynamics. A comparison with the standard model of electroweak interaction yields sin 2 θ W = 0.25 ± 0.13.

The reactions e + e − →γγγ and e + e − →γγγγ have been studied at center-of-mass energies between 35 and 46.8 GeV with an integrated luninosity of about 130 pb −1 accumulated with the CELLO detector at PETRA. The measurements are compared to QED calculations up to third and fourth orders of perturbation theory. Excellent agreement is observed.
A search for single photons, produced in e + e − collisions together with particles interacting only weakly with matter, has been performed using the CELLO detector at the PETRA storage ring. We report on results from data taken at 35 GeV < √ s <46.57 GeV. An upper limit of 8.7 (90% CL) on the number of light neutrino species is set. Combining our result with published results from other e + e − experiments the number of light neutrinos is limited to N v < 4.6 at 90% CL. We also set lower limits on the masses of supersymmetric particles.
The e + e − → τ + τ − process has been measured using the CELLO detector at a mean total centre of mass energy of 34.2 GeV using essentially all the decay channels of the τ lepton. The measured cross section yields R τ =1.03±0.05 (stat)±0.07 (syst). Topological branching fraction are given for τ → 1, 3 or 5 charged tracks. The angular distribution shows a clear 1 + cos 2 θ dependance with a forward-backward asymmetry of -0.103 ± 0.052 corresponding to an axial-vector coupling a τ of the τ to the weak neutral current given by a τ =−1.12 ± 0.57.

The reaction (e+e−→μ+μ−) has been measured between\(\sqrt S= 14.0\) and\(\sqrt S= 36.4\). The total cross section result is in good agreement with the QED prediction and the following Λ values have been obtained:Λ+=186 GeV,Λ−=101 GeV. The angular distribution at high energy (\(\left( {\left. {\left\langle {\sqrt S } \right.} \right\rangle= 34.2 GeV} \right)\)) shows a fitted charge asymmetry of −0.064±0.064 in agreement with theW-S model prediction of −0.092, corresponding to an axial coupling parametera2=4ga2=0.69±0.69.

Errors include contribution from systematics. Result based on fit(1 + cos(theta)**2 + q cos(theta)) to corrected angular distribution.
We have measured the partial widths for the three reactions e + e − → Z 0 → e + e − , μ + μ − , τ + τ − . The results are Γ ee = 84.3±1.3 MeV, √ Γ ee Γ μμ =83.9±1.4 MeV, and √ Γ ee Γ ττ =83.9±1.4 MeV, where the errors are statistical. The systematic errors are estimated to be 1.0 MeV, 0.9 MeV, and 1.4 MeV, respectively. We perform a simultaneous fit to the cross sections for the e + e − →e + e − , μ + μ − , and τ + τ − data, the differential cross section as a function of polar angle for the electron data, and the forward- backward asymmetry for the muon data. We obtain the leptonic partial with Γ ℓℓ =84.0±0.9 (stat.) MeV. The systematic error is estimated to be 0.8 MeV. Also, we obtain the axial-vector and vector weak coupling constants of charged leptons, g A =−0.500±0.003 and g ν =−0.064 −0.013 +0.017 .

We determine the ratio of the partial decay width for ψ(3684)→μ+μ− to that for the cascade decay ψ(3684)→ψ(3095)+X to be (1.4 ± 0.3)% and, by direct observation of associated charged particles and γ rays, find the ratio of the partial decay width for ψ(3684)→ψ(3095)+π0π0 to that for ψ(3684)→ψ(3095)+π+π− to be 0.64 ± 0.15.

We have measured the inclusive production of γ, π0 and η ine+e− annihilation at the center of mass energy of 35 GeV. The differential cross sections, extended to the kinematical limit and measured with high accuracy, are found to be in good agreement with previously reported results. Using the measured spectra we determine the average multiplicity for each of these particle species.
