The π0 inclusive cross section for c.m. production angles θ=90° and 22°>~θ>~5° at c.m. energies of s=23 and 53 GeV has been measured. This cross section is strongly dependent on both θ and s at small angles. The hypothesis of radial scaling is shown to be incapable of incorporating both θ and s dependence of the cross section. A recent quantum-chromodynamics calculation is in qualitative agreement with our results.

Neutral Strange Particle Production by 300-GeV Protons

Skubic, P. ; Overseth, O.E. ; Heller, Kenneth J. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 18 (1978) 3115-3144, 1978.
Inspire Record 136908 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24371

A neutral beam designed to transmit a high flux of Λ0 hyperons with momenta above 50 GeV/c has been built and operated at Fermilab. Inclusive production cross sections per target nucleus have been measured for p+A→Λ0+X, p+A→KS0+X, and p+A→Λ¯0+X with 300-GeV protons incident on solid targets A=berylium, copper, andlead. The region of phase space covered is predominantly projectile fragmentation: 0.2<~x<~1, 0<~p⊥<~2 GeV/c. The A dependence of the inclusive cross sections is analyzed. The cross sections are compared to other work in pp collisions by extrapolating the A dependence to A=1. The results of measurements of Λ0 and Λ¯0 polarization from the beryllium target are presented.

Properties of the Hadronic System Resulting from anti-Muon-neutrino p Interactions

Phys.Rev.D 17 (1978) 1, 1978.
Inspire Record 120660 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24454

The properties of the final-state hadronic system in antineutrino-proton charged-current interactions are presented. The events were observed in the Fermilab 15-foot hydrogen bubble chamber. The average energy of the events is ∼30 GeV, but there are some interactions beyond 100 GeV. The mean multiplicity of the charged hadrons varies as 〈nCH〉=(0.06±0.06)+(1.22±0.03)lnW2 for hadronic masses W in the range 1.0<W2<50 GeV2. By contrast, the multiplicity depends only weakly on the four-momentum transfer between the leptons. The mean pion multiplicities for events with three or more charged tracks are found to be 〈n−〉=1.64±0.04, 〈n0〉=1.16±0.13, for π− and π0 production, respectively. By comparing the number of positive tracks with π− data from neutrino production, we deduce a mean proton multiplicity 〈np〉 of 0.53 ± 0.15. The single-particle distributions in both longitudinal and transverse momentum are found to be similar to those for nondiffractive production in hadronic collisions. The fragmentation properties of the final-state d quarks are compared to the expectations of the quark-parton model. The fraction of observed neutral-strange-particle production for events with three or more charged tracks is 0.08 ± 0.015 and is consistent with coming completely from associated production.

Inclusive Production of Lambda0 Hyperons by 300-GeV Protons: A-Dependence

Heller, Kenneth J. ; Skubic, P. ; Overseth, O.E. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 16 (1977) 2737, 1977.
Inspire Record 5680 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24477

Inclusive production of Λ0 hyperons by 300-GeV protons has been measured at fixed production angles in the laboratory between 0 and 9 mrad and laboratory momenta from 65 to 300 GeV/c. Three different solid targets were used: beryllium, copper, and lead. The A dependence of the data is suggestive of a collision model in which the hadron loses energy and gains transverse momentum as it leaves the nucleus. The experimental results are compared to such a model, and the implications are discussed.

Study of the Reaction $pp \to \Delta^{++} (1236) + X^0$ at 205 GeV/c

We have studied inclusive Δ++(1236) production for |tpΔ|<1.0 (GeV/c)2 in a 50 000 picture exposure of the 30-inch hydrogen bubble chamber to a 205 GeV/c proton beam. The inclusive Δ++ cross section for one hemisphere in the center-of-mass system is (1.30±0.14) mb. The mean charged multiplicity of the system recoiling off the Δ++ is in agreement with that for laboratory π−p interactions at the same energy in the center-of-mass frame. The inclusive Δ++ production is compared to inclusive Λ0 and proton production in the same experiment. The connection between Δ++ production and diffraction is discussed. We find that not all Δ++ come from the decay of a diffractively-produced state. The PT2 distribution for the Δ++ has a slope of (10.5±0.9) (GeV/c)−2 for PT2≲0.2 (GeV/c)2. This slope, together with the decay angular distribution of the Δ++ at small momentum transfer, suggests a strong pion-exchange contribution to the inclusive process. We compare the data to the expectation of a triple-Regge model with ρ- and π-exchange contributions.

Charged-particle multiplicity measurement in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with ALICE at LHC

Inspire Record 852264 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.54795

The pseudorapidity density and multiplicity distribution of charged particles produced in proton-proton collisions at the LHC, at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV, were measured in the central pseudorapidity region |$\eta$| < 1. Comparisons are made with previous measurements at $\sqrt{s}$ = 0.9 TeV and 2.36 TeV. At $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV, for events with at least one charged particle in |$\eta$| < 1, we obtain dNch/deta = 6.01 $\pm$ 0.01 (stat.) $^{+0.20}_{-0.12}$ (syst.). This corresponds to an increase of 57.6% $\pm$ 0.4% (stat.) $^{+3.6}_{-1.8}$% (syst.) relative to collisions at 0.9 TeV, significantly higher than calculations from commonly used models. The multiplicity distribution at 7 TeV is described fairly well by the negative binomial distribution.

We report on a measurement of the inclusive jet cross section in $p \bar{p}$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt s=$1.96 TeV using data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.70 fb$^{-1}$. The data cover jet transverse momenta from 50 GeV to 600 GeV and jet rapidities in the range -2.4 to 2.4. Detailed studies of correlations between systematic uncertainties in transverse momentum and rapidity are presented, and the cross section measurements are found to be in good agreement with next-to-leading order QCD calculations.
