A clear, prompt dimuon signal has been observed in a low-statistics streamer-chamber experiment with 16-GeV/c πp interactions. The good mass resolution makes it possible to identify the contributions from ρ and ω decays and η and ω Dalitz decays. An excess of events is observed in the mass region ∼400-600 MeV which is not accounted for by the above-mentioned decays.

Structure Functions and Charge Ratios in Muon Nucleon Scattering

We present the fractional energy distributions for positive and negative hadrons produced in muon-proton and muon-neutron scattering, and ensuing charge ratios for the photon fragmentation region. Data presented for a center-of-mass energy range 2.8<W<4.5 GeV and a virtual-photon mass-squared range 0.5≤Q2≤4.5 GeV2 indicate an overall equality of summed structure functions for neutron and proton targets, which exhibit approximate independence of Q2 and ω′, Implications in terms of quark-fragmentation ideas are discussed.

Energy and Momentum Distributions of Muoproduced Hadrons

del Papa, C. ; Dorfan, David E. ; Flatte, Stanley M. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 15 (1977) 2425, 1977.
Inspire Record 109678 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24649

We present inclusive distributions for final-state hadrons produced in inelastic muon-proton scattering. Over the total energy range 2<W<4.7 GeV and the momentum-transfer range 0.3<Q2<4.5 GeV2, the fractional momentum and energy distributions approximately scale. Distributions in transverse momentum display an interesting two-component behavior. They show no dependence on the virtual-photon "mass squared" Q2, and have average values typical of other hadron-initiated reactions. A comparison of our distributions with those seen in e+e− annihilation and neutrino-nucleon scattering shows agreement, in support of quark-parton fragmentation ideas. We further break these distributions down by event topology.

Structures in K- Nucleon Total Cross-Sections Below 1.1-GeV/c

Phys.Rev.Lett. 37 (1976) 806, 1976.
Inspire Record 112758 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21041

Total cross sections of K−p and K−d have been measured between 410 and 1070 MeV/c with high statistical precision. In addition to the well known Λ(1520), Λ(1820), and Σ(1769), we confirmed the presence of the Λ(1692) and the Σ(1670). We have also observed several structures which could be Y* resonances: Λ(1646), Λ(1735), Σ(1583), Σ(1608), Σ(1633), and Σ(1715).

Inelastic Muon-Proton Scattering: Multiplicity Distributions, and Prong Cross-Sections

Inspire Record 108053 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24754

In a streamer-chamber experiment at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, we observed hadron production in inelastic collisions of 14-GeV positive muons in a liquid hydrogen target. We report on the experiment, the analysis, and the resulting cross sections for hadronic prongs as well as the charged-hadron multiplicity distributions.

Total Cross-Sections of p and anti-p on Protons and Deuterons Between 50-GeV/c and 200-GeV/c

Phys.Rev.Lett. 33 (1974) 928, 1974.
Inspire Record 90202 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21291

Proton and antiproton total cross sections on protons and deuterons have been measured at 50, 100, 150, and 200 GeV/c. The proton cross sections rise with increasing momentum. Antiproton cross sections fall with increasing momentum, but the rate of fall decreases between 50 and 150 GeV/c, and from 150 to 200 GeV/c there is little change in cross section.

Observation of Structure in anti-p p and anti-p d Total Cross-Sections Below 1.1-GeV/c

Phys.Rev.Lett. 32 (1974) 247, 1974.
Inspire Record 567 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21309

Total cross sections of p¯p and p¯d have been measured between 360 and 1050 MeV/c, with high statistical precision. Structures are observed in both cross sections at about the same momenta. For p¯p, the central mass is 1932±2 MeV/c2, and a fit to the data with a simple Breit-Wigner resonance plus background gives Γ=9−3+4 MeV/c2. The data suggest that the structures are in the isospin-1 state.

Measurements have been carried out of total cross sections of positive kaons on hydrogen and deuterium to a statistical precision of better than ± 0.1 mb for most points in the range of laboratory momentum from 410 to 1065 MeV / c in intervals of approximately 50 MeV/ c . A very broad elastic structure in the I = 0 state is inferred.
