The annihilation p p → Φγ has been investigated with the Crystal Barrel detector at LEAR for antiprotons stopped in liquid hydrogen. The observed branching ratio BR ( p p → Φγ = (1.7 ± 0.4) · 10 −5 is almost two orders of magnitude higher than expected from the OZI-rule. As a by-product, the branching ratios BR ( p p → K L K S ) = (9.0 ± 0.6) · 10 −4 and BR ( p p → Φπ 0 ) = (5.5 ± 0.7) · 10 −4 have been measured.

eta meson photoproduction on hydrogen near threshold

The total cross section for γp→ηp near threshold has been measured using the PHOENICS tagging system at the ELSA electron facility of the Physikalisches Institut der Universität Bonn. The photons are created by bremsstrahlung, and are tagged by measuring the momentum of each electron after the photon has been emitted. The recoil proton from γp→ηp is detected by the AMADEUS counter setup in coincidence with the tagging system. Data were taken with AMADEUS at 3.3° in the laboratory, where the large Jacobian increases our event rate so that we obtain the cross section from threshold (Eγ=707.2 MeV) to Eγ≃720 MeV with adequate statistics. The γp→ηp events are identified by kinematics, dE/dx, and timing information. We find that in our energy region the production cross section is consistent with S-wave production.

Inspire Record 405013 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32839

The depolarization parameter Donon of the p dash p → n dash n charge exchange reaction has been measured for the first time at the CERN Low Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR) at two antiproton momenta, 546 and 875 MeV/ c . The transverse polarization of the recoil neutron was analyzed using a large-acceptance neutron polarimeter made up of two parallel plastic scintillator planes. D 0 n 0 n is usually less than 0.35 which suggests that the spin-spin amplitudes dominate in the scattering matrix. Results are compared with the predictions of various N dash N potential models. The agreement is in general satisfactory.

First measurement of the polarization transfer on the proton in the reactions H (e (polarized), e-prime p (polarized)) and D (e (polarized), e-prime p (polarized))

Inspire Record 406592 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.16499

The measurement of the polarisation transfer to the proton in the reactions\(H(\vec e,e'\vec p)\) and\(D(\vec e,e'\vec p)\) performed with longitudinally polarised electrons in quasi-free kinematics is presented. The coincidence measurement was executed atQ2≈8fm−2 using the 855 MeV, c.w. beam of the Mainz Microtron MAMI. The recoil polarisation was determined by means of a carbon analyser. The experiment shows that the binding of the nucleon does not modify the polarisationPx of the recoil proton within an error ofΔPx/Px≈10%. The measured polarisation agrees with recent theoretical predictions. Implications for the measurement of the electric form factor of the neutron using the\(D(\vec e,e'\vec n)\) reaction are discussed.

The differential p p → n n charge-exchange cross section has been measured at the CERN Low Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR), at two incident p momenta, 601 and 1202 MeV/c. features of the differential cross-section near the forward direction, i.e. a sharp peak at 0° scattering angle followed by an energy dependent dip-bump structure, are confirmed and measured with good precision and high statistical accuracy. The data show very clearly that the shape of the cross-section is a manifestation of the pion-exchange amplitude, and a simple extrapolation to the pion pole already indicates that the pion-nucleon coupling constant f c 2 can be determined with good precision.

Total cross-section measurement for the three double pion production channels on the proton

Inspire Record 382744 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28464

The total cross sections for the three γp → Nππ reactions have been measured for photon energies from 400 to 800 MeV. The γ p → p π 0 π 0 and γ p → n π + π 0 cross sections have never been measured before while the γ p → p π + π − results are much improved compared to earlier data. These measurements were performed with the large acceptance hadronic detector DAPHNE, at the tagged photon beam facility of the MAMI microtron in Mainz.

Measurements of the electric and magnetic form-factors of the proton from Q**2 = 1.75-GeV/c**2 to 8.83-GeV/c**2

The proton elastic form factors GEp(Q2) and GMp(Q2) have been extracted for Q2=1.75 to 8.83 (GeV/c)2 via a Rosenbluth separation to ep elastic cross section measurements in the angular range 13°≤θ≤90°. The Q2 range covered more than doubles that of the existing data. For Q2<4 (GeV/c)2, where the data overlap with previous measurements, the total uncertainties have been reduced to < 14% in GEp and < 1.5% in GMp. Results for GEp(Q2) are consistent with the dipole fit GD(Q2)=(1+Q2/0.71)−2, while those for GMp(Q2)/μpGD(Q2) decrease smoothly from 1.05 to 0.92. Deviations from form factor scaling are observed up to 20%. The ratio Q2F2/F1 is observed to approach a constant value for Q2>3 (GeV/c)2. Comparisons are made to vector meson dominance, dimensional scaling, QCD sum rule, diquark, and constituent quark models, none of which fully characterize all the new data.

The ratio R(ϕπ/ωπ)=σ(n¯p→ϕπ+)/σ(n¯p→ωπ+) turned out 0.110±0.015 stat ±0.006 syst . Implications of this result on the OZI rule are discussed.
