We have measured the analyzing power ANO and the spin transfer KNN for np-elastic scattering from about 60° to 170° c.m. at 485, 635, and 788 MeV. The new data clarify previous discrepancies and complete the first-order determination of nucleon-nucleon elastic scattering at these energies.

Results are presented for the spin-spin correlation parameters CSS and CLS for free np elastic scattering at neutron beam kinetic energies of 484, 634, 720, and 788 MeV and c.m. angles between 25° and 80°. The measurements were performed with a polarized neutron beam and a polarized proton target. These are the first measurements of this type to be reported in the forward angular region with a free polarized neutron beam. The observables CSS and CLS are both small at all energies, except for CLS at 788 MeV, which is larger than phase-shift analysis predictions by more than one standard deviation for most of the measured points.

Final results are presented for the spin-spin correlation parameters CSL and CLL for np elastic scattering with a polarized neutron beam incident on a polarized proton target. The beam kinetic energies are 484, 634, and 788 MeV, and the c.m. angular range is 80°-180°. These data will contribute significantly to the determination of the isospin-0 amplitudes in the energy range from 500 to 800 MeV.
Pure np elastic scattering spin variables. CLL and CSL derived from measured combined spin variable. Thus the errors on CLL and CSL are slightly correlated. There are also additional systematic errors of 7 pct associated with beam and 3.3 pct target polarizations respectively.

We have measured the spin-transfer parameters KLL, KSL, KLS, and KSS at 635 MeV from 50° to 178° c.m. and at 485 MeV from 74° to 176° c.m. These new data have a significant impact on the phase-shift analyses. There are now sufficient data near these energies to overdetermine the elastic nucleon-nucleon amplitudes.
Spin transfer parameters from np elastic scattering at 635 MeV. There is an additional overall normalisation of 2 PCT.

The spin-spin correlation parameters CLL=(L,L;0,0)=ALL and CSL=(S,L;0,0)=ASL for np elastic scattering were measured for incident polarized-neutron–beam kinetic energies of 484 and 634 MeV over the center-of-mass angles from ≃80° to 180°. The data are important for determining the I=0 nucleon-nucleon amplitudes. These results are compared with phase-shift calculations.

We present density-matrix elements and single-spin correlations for the reaction p↑p→pπ+n at 3, 4, 6, and 11.75 GeV/c, using both longitudinal and transverse beam polarizations. For small momentum transfers, the spin correlations are mainly due to off-shell π+p elastic scattering, while for larger t there are large polarization effects associated with the production dynamics for p↑p→Δ++n. Comparison of longitudinal and transverse polarization correlations suggests that the Δ++-production spin effects are due mainly to unnatural-parity exchanges. We present a model-dependent amplitude analysis, and extract the energy dependence of the natural- and unnatural-parity-exchange contributions.

The depolarization parameter D NN for pp elastic scattering at θ cm = 90 ° has been measured at twelve momenta between 0.9 and 1.5 GeV/ c . The moduli of the three transversity amplitudes T 1 , T 3 , and T 4 have been extracted from these data and from previous measurements of the differential cross section and spin correlation parameter A NN (90 °). Smooth energy dependence is found for all three amplitude moduli.
Axis error includes +- 3/3 contribution (DUE TO UNCERTAINTIES IN THE TARGET ANALYSING POWER).
The analyzing power A y 0 in the reaction p↑p→dπ + has been measured using the polarized proton beam at Argonne National Laboratory's zero gradient synchrotron. Data were taken at beam momenta of 1.17, 1.47, 1.70, and 1.96 GeV/ c and for pion center of mass angles from 8° to 163°.

The analyzing power A and spin-transfer parameters KNN, KSS, KSL, and KLL have been measured in the np charge-exchange (np→pn) region at 790 MeV. These data provide new and unique information on the spin dependence of the np interaction in the charge-exchange region. Models which explain the charge-exchange peak in the np elastic differential cross section as being due to interference between one-pion exchange and a slowly varying background are in basic agreement with the data.

USING PHASE-SHIFT VALUES FOR KLS AND KSL.
Polarized cross sections for the reaction π − p → η n have been measured at 12 incident momenta between 1171 and 2267 MeV/ c . The data show that the polarization is small in the forward direction and there is a general trend for it to be large and positive near cos θ ∗ = 0.2 . These are the first published results on polarization effects in this channel in the resonance region. An energy-dependent partial-wave analysis has been performed and the couplings and branching fractions for decays of nucleon resonances to this channel are presented.
