The quasifree $\overrightarrow{\gamma} d\to\pi^0n(p)$ photon beam asymmetry, $\Sigma$, has been measured at photon energies, $E_\gamma$, from 390 to 610 MeV, corresponding to center of mass energy from 1.271 to 1.424 GeV, for the first time. The data were collected in the A2 hall of the MAMI electron beam facility with the Crystal Ball and TAPS calorimeters covering pion center-of-mass angles from 49 to 148$^\circ$. In this kinematic region, polarization observables are sensitive to contributions from the $\Delta (1232)$ and $N(1440)$ resonances. The extracted values of $\Sigma$ have been compared to predictions based on partial-wave analyses (PWAs) of the existing pion photoproduction database. Our comparison includes the SAID, MAID, and Bonn-Gatchina analyses; while a revised SAID fit, including the new $\Sigma$ measurements, has also been performed. In addition, isospin symmetry is examined as a way to predict $\pi^0n$ photoproduction observables, based on fits to published data in the channels $\pi^0p$, $\pi^+n$, and $\pi^-p$.

Polarized Photon Asymmetries in K+ Photoproduction at 16-GeV

Phys.Rev.Lett. 34 (1975) 543, 1975.
Inspire Record 100595 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21241

Using a 16-GeV linearly polarized photon beam, we have measured asymmetries in the process γN→K+(Λ+Σ) from hydrogen and deuterium, for square of four-momentum transfer, t, between -0.01 and -0.8 (GeV/c)2. The data show that for −t≳0.1 (GeV/c)2, the cross sections for γp→K+Λ, γp→K+Σ0, and γn→K+Σ− are strongly dominated by natural-parity exchange, as is the case in single-pion photoproduction.

ASYMMETRIES IN CHARGED PION PHOTOPRODUCTION ON NUCLEONS BY 16-GeV POLARIZED PHOTONS

Inspire Record 81026 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21357

Asymmetries in charged-pion photoproduction from hydrogen and deuterium have been measured with 16-GeV linearly polarized photons. Considerable energy dependence is seen in the natural-parity contribution to the π−π+ ratio from deuterium, and in the unnatural-parity part of the cross section for γn→π−p. The energy dependence of this latter cross section is consistent with the expected from a conventional pion Regge trajectory.

Lambda0 polarization in 800-GeV/c p p --> p(f) (Lambda0 K+).

Phys.Rev.Lett. 88 (2002) 061801, 2002.
Inspire Record 560899 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.42919

We report results from a study of Λ0 polarization in the exclusive reaction pp→pf(Λ0K+) at 800−GeV/c. We observe a dependence of the polarization on the Λ0K+ invariant mass with large (+71%) positive polarization at small mass (1.63−GeV/c2) and large (−43%) negative polarization at large mass (2.75−GeV/c2). This observation confirms the result of the CERN ISR R608 experiment and extends the range over which the effect is observed. The strong dependence of the polarization on the Λ0K+ invariant mass suggests that the origin of the polarization is closely related to the production dynamics of the diffractively produced Λ0K+ system.

The asymmetries in forward π−N, π−Δ, and K+−(Λ+Σ) photoproduction have been measured with a 16-GeV linearly polarized beam. The experimental method and the procedures for extracting cross sections and asymmetries from the data are discussed in detail. Information on the energy and momentum-transfer dependence of cross sections for natural- and unnatural-parity exchange, interference between exchanges of opposite G parity, and vector-meson dominance is obtained and discussed.

Proton polarization from pi+ absorption in He-3

Phys.Rev.Lett. 68 (1992) 3012-3015, 1992.
Inspire Record 339565 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19868

We present the first polarization measurements for pion absorption on a nucleus heavier than the deuteron. The polarization of protons resulting from π+ absorption in the He3 was measured at bombarding energies of 120 and 250 MeV. Protons from absorption in a quasideuteron were selected by applying kinematical constraints. A significant discrepancy was observed between the experimental results and theoretical predictions. At 120 MeV the measured polarizations for He3 are consistent with those of the deuteron. At 250 MeV the angular distribution of the polarization is significantly different than for the deuteron, showing sensitivity to the nuclear density, and thus may be sensitive to short range correlations between nucleons.

Measurement of the polarization of tau leptons produced in Z decays

Inspire Record 316781 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29377

The polarization of τ leptons produced in the reaction e + e − → τ + τ − at the Z resonance has been measured using the τ decay modes e ν e ν τ , μν μ ν τ , πν τ , ϱν τ , and a 1 ν τ . The mean value obtained is P τ = −0.152±0.045, indicating that parity is violated in the neutral current process e + e − → τ + τ − . The result corresponds to a ratio of a neutral current vector and axial vector coupling constants of the τ lepton g V τ (M 2 Z ) g A τ (M 2 Z ) = 0.076±0.023 and a value of the electroweak mixing parameter sin 2 θ w ( M 2 Z ) = 0.2302 ± 0.0058.

Measurement of Lambda(b) polarization in Z decays

The ALEPH collaboration Buskulic, D. ; Casper, D. ; De Bonis, I. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 365 (1996) 437-447, 1996.
Inspire Record 402895 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.48060

The Λ b polarization in hadronic Z decays is measured in semileptonic decays from the average energies of the charged lepton and the neutrino. In a data sample of approximately 3 million hadronic Z decays collected by the ALEPH detector at LEP between 1991 and 1994, 462 ± 31 Λ b candidates are selected using ( Λπ + )-lepton correlations. From this event sample, the Λ b polarization is measured to be P Λ b = −0.23 −0.20 +0.24 (stat.) −0.07 +0.08 (syst.).
