Data are presented for the reaction ep → ep π 0 at a nominal four-momentum transfer squared of 0.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The data were obtained using an extracted electron beam from NINA and two magnetic spectrometers for coincidence detection of the electron and proton. Details are given of the experimental method and the results are given for isobar masses in the range 1.19 – 1.73 GeV/ c 2 .

Measurements of charged current reactions of nu/mu on C-12.

Charged current scattering of \nu_\mu on ^{12}C has been studied using a \pi^+ decay-in-flight \nu_\mu beam at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center. A sample of 66.9+-9.1 events satisfying criteria for the exclusive reaction ^{12}C(\nu_\mu,\mu^-)^{12}N_{g.s.} was obtained using a large liquid scintillator neutrino detector. The observed flux-averaged cross section (5.6+-0.8+-1.0) x 10^{-41} cm^2 agrees well with reliable theoretical expectations. A measurement was also obtained for the inclusive cross section to all accessible ^{12}N states ^{12}C(\nu_\mu,\mu^-)X. This flux-averaged cross section is (10.6+-0.3+-1.8) x 10^{-40} cm^2 which is lower than present theoretical calculations.

Global transverse energy distributions in Si + Al, Au at 14.6-A/GeV/c and Au + Au at 11.6-A.GeV/c

Measurements of the global transverse energy distributions dσ / dE T and dE T / dη using the new AGS beam of 197 Au at 11.6 A GeV/ c on a Au target, as well as a beam of 28 Si at 14.6 A GeV/ c on Al and Au targets, are presented for a leadglass detector with acceptance 1.3 ≤ η ≤ 2.4 and 0 ≤ φ < 2 π . The dσ / dE T spectra are observed to have different shapes for the different systems and simple energy rescaling does not account for the projectile dependence. The Au+Au dσ / dE T spectrum is satisfactorily constructed from the upper edge of Si+Au by the geometric Wounded Projectile Nucleon Model after applying a correction for the beam energy.

Coherent single charged pion production by neutrinos

Phys.Lett.B 313 (1993) 267-275, 1993.
Inspire Record 358417 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28869

We report on a measurement of coherent single charged pion production in neutrino-nucleus scattering. The analysis is based on data taken with the CHARM II detector in beams of muon-neutrinos and -antineutrinos. The event numbers amount to N ( μ − π ) = 748 and N ( μ + π ) = 631. Cross sections and their dependence on the neutrino energy are determined. The results are in agreement with the predictions of models based on the PCAC hypothesis.

Two-body disintegration of the deuteron with 0.8-GeV to 1.8-GeV photons

The differential cross section for the reaction H2(γ,p)n has been measured at several center-of-mass angles ranging from 50° to 143° for photon energies between 0.8 and 1.8 GeV. The experiment was performed at the SLAC-NPAS facility with the use of the 1.6 GeV/c spectrometer to detect the high energy protons produced by a bremsstrahlung beam directed at a liquid deuterium target. Contributions from concurrent disintegration by the residual electron beam were determined by measuring the proton yield without the Cu photon radiator. At angles not very far from 90°, the energy dependence of the cross sections is consistent with predictions of scaling using counting rules for constituent quarks. At least one theoretical calculation based on a meson-baryon picture of the reaction is able to reproduce the magnitude and energy dependence of the 90° cross section. The angular distribution exhibits a large enhancement at backward angles at the higher energies.

MEASUREMENT OF J / psi PRODUCTION IN 280-GeV/c mu+ IRON INTERACTIONS

The European Muon collaboration Aubert, J.J. ; Bassompierre, G. ; Becks, K.H. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 89 (1980) 267-270, 1980.

Virtual photoproduction of J/ ψ mesons has been measured for 280 GeV muon iron interactions in an iron/scintillator calorimeter target. The J/ψ's were identified by their decay into muon pairs. 315 events were observed, about half of which were elastic. The t , Q 2 and v distributions of these elastic events are presented. The v dependence is measured between 40 and 180 Mev and compared with lower energy photoproduction results. The Q 2 dependence is compared with the predictions of the vector dominance model.
