Antiproton-proton total elastic cross sections at 21 incident momenta in the range 0.69 to 2.43 GeV/ c have been deduced by combining p̄p elastic differential cross sections over a c.m. angular range −0.95 ⩽ cos θ ∗ ⩽ 0.93 with forward elastic cross sections derived from recent real-part measurements and p̄p total cross sections. Two bumps are observed, at M 1 ⋍ 2.155 and M 2 ⋍ 2.345 GeV /c 2 , having widths of Г 1 ∼ 0.135 and Г 2 ∼ 0.135 GeV /c 2 . Corresponding structures in other p̄p reaction channels are discussed.

Phys.Rev.Lett. 39 (1977) 861, 1977.
Inspire Record 120734 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20951

We have measured the invariant cross section for inclusive ϕ production in proton-nucleus collisions at 400 GeV/c near Feynman x=0. For transverse momenta in the range between 0.8 and 3.5 GeV/c the ratio of ϕ to π− rises from 1 to 7%. We also report on correlations with particles opposite the ϕ in the center-of-mass system as they relate to the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka rule.

Measurement of the Polarization Parameter for anti-Proton-Proton Annihilation Into Charged Pion and Kaon Pairs Between 1.0-GeV/c and 2.2-GeV/c

Carter, A.A. ; Coupland, M. ; Eisenhandler, E. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 127 (1977) 202, 1977.
Inspire Record 119216 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.8355

The polarization parameter P for the reactions p p → π − π + and p p → K − K + has been measured over essentially the full angular range at ll laboratory momenta between 1.0 and 2.2. GeV/ c , using a proton target polarized perpendicular to the scattering plane. The angles and momenta of both final state particles were determined from wire spark chambers, using the deflection caused by the polarized target magnet. Between 1000 and 5300 π − π + events, and 140 and 1300 K − K + events, were measured at each momentum. Differential cross sections for p p → π − π + were obtained. These are in excellent agreement with previous results. The polarization parameter for both channels is very close to +1 over much of the angular range. Legendre polynomial fits to the data are presented.

Coherent Regeneration of $K_s$'s by Carbon as a Test of Regge Pole Exchange Theory

Roehrig, J. ; Gsponer, A. ; Molzon, W.R. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 38 (1977) 1116, 1977.
Inspire Record 5134 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21018

A measurement of the coherent regeneration amplitude in carbon in the energy range 30-130 GeV is presented. The results are consistent with the dominance of this process by ω exchange, and a precise value of the intercept of the ω trajectory is obtained: αω(0)=0.390±0.014.

Cross-Section Measurement for Nonstrange Final States and Single Pion Production in pi+ p Interactions at 3.6-GeV/c

Macnaughton, J. ; Butler, W.R. ; Coyne, D.G. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 15 (1977) 1832-1845, 1977.
Inspire Record 124169 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24652

Cross sections are presented for all final states without strange-particle production. Contributions to single-pion production are found from (i) Δ(1238)π, (ii) ρ+p, (iii) nucleon diffractive dissociation into Nπ, (iv) N*(1688)π+, and (v) "phase space." Processes (i), (ii), and (iii) are studied in some detail taking into account overlaps between the various subchannels.

$\pi^- p$ at 205 GeV/c: Multiplicities of Charged and Neutral Particles Production of Neutral Particles

Ljung, D. ; Bogert, D. ; Hanft, R. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 15 (1977) 3163, 1977.
Inspire Record 111665 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24616

A study of 205-GeV/c π−p interactions has been made with a 48 800-picture exposure in the bare Fermilab 30-inch hydrogen bubble chamber. The average number of charged particles produced per inelastic interaction is 7.99±0.06. The elastic cross section is 3.18±0.13 mb and the total cross section is 24.19±0.44 mb. The inclusive cross sections for neutral-particle production are: σ(γ)=171.3±15.3 mb, σ(KS0)=3.64±0.61 mb (x<0.3), σ(Λ)=1.71±0.34 mb (x<0.3), and σ(Λ¯)=0.59±0.23 mb (x<0.1). The average number of π0's produced per inelastic collision is consistent with a linear rise with the number of charged particles, and about equal to the number of produced π− or π+. The average number of K0's, Λ's, and Λ¯'s is consistent with very little dependence on the number of charged particles. General characteristics of neutral-particle production are presented and compared with other experiments. For each topology the produced neutral energy is ∼13 of the incident energy.

Diffractive Dissociation and N* Production in pi- n --> pi- pi- p at 15-GeV/c

Harris, R. ; Lubatti, H.J. ; Moriyasu, K. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 119 (1977) 189-209, 1977.
Inspire Record 110139 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.35579

Diffractive dissociation of neutrons and N ∗ production are studied in the reaction π − n → π − π − p at 15 GeV/ c . The reaction is dominated by a broad, low-mass diffractive enhancement in the pπ − mass. Evidence is presented for the production of at least one N ∗ resonance in the mass region 1.4–1.8 GeV. Comparison with ISR data suggest that this N ∗ resonance is produced by pomeron exchange. The N ∗ production occurs predominantly at t ′ > 0.1 GeV 2 which suggests a different coupling from the usual diffractive reactions. The non-resonant diffractive background is compared with a double-Regge model and the statistical dissociation model.

Properties of Inclusive Hadron Spectra in Muon Nucleon Scattering at 150-GeV/c

Anderson, H.L. ; Bharadwaj, V.K. ; Booth, N.E. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 36 (1976) 1422, 1976.
Inspire Record 3759 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.3268

We have studied muon-produced hadrons from a deuterium target. The structure functions and the charge ratios are reported for neutrons; the transverse momentum and azimuthal distributions are reported for deuterons. The structure function for the neutron is similar to that of the proton. The charge ratio of produced hadrons follows the expectation of a simple spin-½ quark model. Transverse-momentum results agree with those at lower energy and are similar to those from hadron-hadron interactions. No azimuthal anisotropy is seen.

Differential Cross-Sections for anti-Proton-Proton Elastic Scattering Between 0.69-GeV/c and 2.43-GeV/c

Eisenhandler, E. ; Gibson, W.R. ; Hojvat, C. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 113 (1976) 1-33, 1976.
Inspire Record 109426 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.8439

Measurements have been made of the differential cross section for p p elastic scattering over a c.m. angular range −0.95 ⩽ cos θ ∗ ⩽ 0.93 at 21 incident antiproton momenta between 0.69 GeV/ c and 2.43 GeV/ c (c.m. energy 1.96–2.58 GeV). About 10 5 events were obtained at each momentum. The results are discussed primarily in terms of the formation of s -channel resonances in the T and U mass regions, and within the context of the optical model of Frahn and Venter.

Charge Asymmetry in Inelastic $\pi^-p$ Interactions at 205-GeV/c for Particles with Transverse Momentum > 1.0-GeV/c

Fretter, W.B. ; Graves, W.R. ; Bingham, H.H. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 57 (1975) 197-200, 1975.
Inspire Record 98702 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27857

In 205 GeV / c π − p inelastic interactions, negative particles with transverse momentum greater than 1.0 GeV / c moving forward in the center of mass outnumber similar positive particles by a factor of 3.7 to 1, greatly in excess of the corresponding ratio for small transverse momentum. The asymmetry is reversed in the backward direction. The forward asymmetry is most prominent in 2-, 4-, and 6-prong interactions, but both forward and backward asymmetries are also substantial for higher multiplicity interactions.
