Inelastic electron proton scattering at high momentum transfers

Inelastic electron proton scattering has been measured by detecting the scattered electron, thus obtaining the total absorption cross section for virtual photons. Two complete spectra from threshold to a pion nucleon mass of W = 2 GeV were taken at θ e = 48.3° and fixed primary energies of 3.963 GeV and 5.159 GeV, respectively, corresponding to a momentum transfer at the first resonance of q 2 = 3.98 (GeV/ c ) 2 and q 2 = 5.84 (GeV/ c ) 2 . In addition, a measurement at θ e = 47.9° and at a primary energy of 3.306 GeV in the region of the first resonance is reported.

Neutron form-factors from quasielastic e d scattering

The reaction e+d→e′+n+p was studied at electron scattering angles θ ⩽ 35° for four-momentum transfers of 0.39, 0.565 and 0.78 (GeV/ c ) 2 . By recording electron-neutron and electron-proton coincidences, the ratio of the electron scattering cross sections on quasi-free neutrons and protons was determined. An estimate of the binding effects, based on a Chew-Low-extrapolation, was made. Values for the neutron form factors were derived.

Photoproduction of negative pions on neutrons at photon energies between 0.2-GeV and 2.0-GeV

Total and differenial cross sections of the reaction γ +n→p+ π − have been determined for photon-energies between 0.2 and 2.0 GGeV. Below 500 MeV the differential cross sections are compared with theoretical predictions derived from fixed-momentum-transfer dispersion relations.

Negative Pion Production from Neutrons by Polarized gamma Rays

The differential asymmetry ratio for the process γ+n→p+π− was measured at 90° in the center-of-mass system and for incident photon energies from 352 to 550 MeV. The observed asymmetries are larger than the values predicted from the theory by Berends, Donnachie, and Weaver. A smaller M1- amplitude gives better agreement between the experiment and the theory.

Total neutron-nuclei cross-sections at 10 {GeV/c}

Total neutron cross-sections were determined for He, Li, Be, C, Al, Fe, Cu and Pb at an average neutron momentum of 10 GeV/ c . The results agree very well with total proton-neuclei cross-sections at 20 GeV/ c . The interaction radii inferred from the cross-sections are in remarkable agreement with the half-density radii as obtained from electron scattering.

Electroproduction of pions near the $\Delta(1236)$ isobar and the form-factor $G^*_M(q^2)$ of the $({\gamma} N\Delta)$ vertex

The cross section for inelastic electron-proton scattering was measured at incident electron energies of 1.5 to 6 GeV by magnetic analysis of the scattered electrons at angles between 10° and 35°. For invariant masses of the hardonic final state W ⩽ 1.4 GeV. the measured spectra are compared with theoretical predictions for electroproduction of the Δ(1236) isobar. The magnetic dipole transition form factor G ∗ M ( q 2 ) of the (γ N Δ)-vertex is derived for momentum transfers q 2 = 0.2 − 2.34 (GeV/ c ) 2 ard found to decrease more rapidly with q 2 than the proton form factors.

On $K_L$ - $K_S$ Regeneration in Copper

The transmission regeneration amplitude after a thick copper block has been measured. The quantity {∣ƒ(0)- overlineƒ(0)∣ }/{k} varies from 20.0 $\pm$ 1.4 mb at 2.75 GeV/c to 13.6 $\pm$ 1.2 mb at 7.25 GeV/c. Results are in agreement with optical model calculations in which real and imaginary parts of the amplitudes for single nucleon scattering are determined from forward dispersion relations and total cross-sections.

Measurement of Polarization in pi-p Elastic Scattering from 229 to 390 MeV

The polarization parameter in elastic π−p scattering has been measured, at the Berkeley 184-in. synchrocyclotron, with the use of a polarized proton target. At 318-, 337-, and 390-MeV incident pion kinetic energy, the angular range from 70° to 180° in the center-of-mass system was covered. At 229 MeV, polarization measurements were made in the angular range 150° to 180°. Phase-shift analyses, using these and other published data, were made at the two lowest energies.

Quasielastic Electron-Deuteron Scattering Between q$^2$=18f$^{-2}$ and 100f$^{-2}$

Quasielastic e-d scattering measurements were performed up to q 2 = 100 fm −2 . Only the electron was detected. The ratio R= ( d 2 ω d Ω d E′) ed d ω d Ω) ep was measured at the quasielastic peak; the magnetic form factor G M N of the neutron was deduced using the assumption G E N = 0.
