We have measured the absolute cross sections of the electron-deuteron scattering at q2=3.5 F−2 and obtained the complete inelastic spectrum. Three points for each spectrum are given with a 4% accuracy. The scattering angles, 60° and 130°, were chosen to allow the separation between electric and magnetic scattering. Calculations of radiative corrections were made in order to permit the comparison of the spectra with the inelastic-scattering theories.

We have extracted the strong interaction form factors from K o e3 and K o μ3 data of our previously reported K o L experiment in a manner which does not assume an explicit q 2 = ( p K − p π ) 2 dependence. We present the unparameterized form factors ƒ + (q 2 ) from the K o L → πeν and K o L → πμν modes and ƒ o (q 2 ) and ξ ( q 2 ) from the K o L → πμν data. A comparison of these unparameterized results is made with the results of the Dalitz plot analyses.
The conventional form factor f+ is studied.
We have measured cross sections, rapidity and transverse momentum distributions, and vector meson polarization for the reactions pp→ ϱ o +anything, pp→ ω +charged particles, and pp → K ∗± + anything at incident laboratory momenta of 12 and 24 GeV/ c . The 300 MeV electron linear accelerator of Mainz has been used to measure the angular dependence of the electron-proton elastic scattering cross sections at seven different energies for squared four-momentum transfers between 0.13 and 4.7 fm −2 . The proton form factors have been extracted from the cross sections by means of Rosenbluth plots and by fitting parametrized analytical functions directly to the cross sections. The best fit is compared to the data of other laboratories. The previously reported deviations from the dipole fit have been confirmed. From the form factors at q 2 <0.9 fm 2 the proton r.m.s. radius has been determined. A determination of the spectral function of the nucleon isovector form factor G E V in the time-like is obtained using a realistic ϱ resonance.

The cross section e + e − → π + π − π o has been measured in the φ energy region and at three other energies (915, 990, 1076 MeV) chosen outside the ω and φ resonances. In the same experiment the energy position and the width of the φ resonance have been determined from the φ →K S o K L o channel. It is found that the magnitude and energy dependence of the experimental cross section are well described by coherent production of ω and φ in the whole energy range 770 to 1076 MeV. Our data clearly show an interference effect which corresponds to an opposite sign between the two products g γω g ω →3 π and g γφ g φ →3 π of the coupling constants.

The production of multipion events by e + e − annihilation has been measured at centre of mass energies 915,990 and 1076 MeV. Both channels e + e − → π + π − π o and e + e − → π + π − π + π − have been analysed. An energy threshold effect analysed. An energy threshold effect around 919 MeV ( m ω + m π o ) has been evidenced for the π + π − π o π o channel and the cross section is consistent with the quasi two-body process e + e − → ωπ o . The cross section for π + π − π + π − is lower by an order of magnitude and increases with the energy.

The properties of the final-state hadronic system in antineutrino-proton charged-current interactions are presented. The events were observed in the Fermilab 15-foot hydrogen bubble chamber. The average energy of the events is ∼30 GeV, but there are some interactions beyond 100 GeV. The mean multiplicity of the charged hadrons varies as 〈nCH〉=(0.06±0.06)+(1.22±0.03)lnW2 for hadronic masses W in the range 1.0<W2<50 GeV2. By contrast, the multiplicity depends only weakly on the four-momentum transfer between the leptons. The mean pion multiplicities for events with three or more charged tracks are found to be 〈n−〉=1.64±0.04, 〈n0〉=1.16±0.13, for π− and π0 production, respectively. By comparing the number of positive tracks with π− data from neutrino production, we deduce a mean proton multiplicity 〈np〉 of 0.53 ± 0.15. The single-particle distributions in both longitudinal and transverse momentum are found to be similar to those for nondiffractive production in hadronic collisions. The fragmentation properties of the final-state d quarks are compared to the expectations of the quark-parton model. The fraction of observed neutral-strange-particle production for events with three or more charged tracks is 0.08 ± 0.015 and is consistent with coming completely from associated production.

The pion form factor is measured in the reaction e + e − → π + π − for center of mass energies in the range 480–1100 MeV. Our results are first analysed in terms of the conventional Vector Meson Dominance formalism, and then taking into account the ωπ inelastic channel. The result of this later formalism is a pion form factor ( F π ) which fits quite well all the existing data on F π both in the timelike and spacelike regions, and pion mean square radius of 〈 r π 2 〉 = 0.460 ± 0.011 fm 2 or 〈r π 2 〉 1 2 = 0.678 ± 0.008 fm .

We present results for the differential cross sections of neutrinos and antineutrinos on nucleons in the energy range E = 2−200 GeV, from the BEBC and Gargamelle experiments. The structure functions F 2 , 2 χF 1 and χF 3 have been evaluated as a function of χ and q 2 . Deviations are observed from Bjorken scaling, which are very similar to those found in electron and muon inelastic scattering. For the Callan-Gross ratio, we find 2χF 1 F 2 = 0.80 ± 0.12 and the corresponding value for 〈R〉 = 〈 σ S σ T 〉 = 0.15 ± 0.10 . Our results are consistent with the Gross-Llewellyn-Smith sum rule; we measure ⩾2.5 ± 0.5 valence quarks per nucleon. Quark and antiquark distributions are given. The Nachtmann moments of F 2 and χF 3 are quantitatively consistent with the predictions from QCD. The value of the strong interaction parameter is λ = 0.74 ± 0.05 GeV without corrections, and 0.66 ± 0.05 GeV including α S 2 corrections. The moments of the gluon distribution are found to be positive and indicate an χ distribution of gluons which is comparable with that of the valence quarks.

We present the results of a measurement of the cross section oof the reaction e + e − → π + π − π + π − from 890 to 1100 MeV in the center of mass, obtained with a magnetic detector at the Orsay Storage Ring ACO. With respect to previous experiments, the present one offers the possibility of reconstructing events with at least one constraint and his improved statistics. We find that our measurement of the cross section for e + e − → π + π − π + π − is compatible with quasi two-body production of π A 1 ( m A1 = 1.1 GeV, Γ A1 ∼ 0.2−0.3 GeV), through the ϱ and ϱ′(1600) intermediate states. We were able to states. We were able to determine the cross section of this reaction at the energy of the φ meson and consequently an upper limit on the branching ratio of φ → π + π − π + π − .
UPPER LIMIT FOR PHI --> 4PI.
We present the results obtained with the magnetic detector DM1 at the Orsay storage ring ACO for the reaction e + e − → π + π − π 0 from 483 to 1100 MeV in the center of mass. Our data show without ambiguity an interference effect between the ω and φ mesons, which corresponds to a negative coupling constant product ratio Re( g γω g ω →3 π / g γφ g φ →3 π ) ; however our measurements above the φ, performed using kinematical analysis, can only be explained by a higher energy contribution. In addition, the parameters of the ω have been obtained with an improved accuracy compared to other experiments, and particularly the branching ratio B ω →e + e − = (6.75±0.69) × 10 −5 . We confirm that the reaction e + e − → π + π − π 0 proceeds essentially via a quasi-two-body state ϱπ , at the energy of the φ.

Parity nonconservation is observed in the 6P122−7P122 transition in thallium. Absorption of circularly polarized 293-nm photons by 6P122 atoms in an E field results in polarization of the 7P122 state through interference of Stark E1 amplitudes with M1 and parity-nonconserving E1 amplitudes M and Ep. Detection of this polarization yields the circular dichroism δ=+(5.2±2.4)×10−3, which agrees in sign and magnitude with theoretical estimates based on the Weinberg-Salam model.

Using data from the Fermilab 15 ft hydrogen bubble chamber, we have studied inclusive ϱ 0 production in antineutrino-proton charged-current interactions. We measure (0.21 ± 0.03) ϱ 0 /event, corresponding to ϱ 0 / π − =0.12 ± 0.02. As a function of Q 2 and for hadronic masses above a threshold region, the ϱ 0 / π − ratio shows little variation. At least 50% of the ϱ 0 's are consistent with coming from the current fragmentation region. The inclusive production cross section of ω 0 and η′ were measured at transverse momenta of 3 to 7GeV/ c at 90° in the centre of mass. The ω 0 /π 0 and η′/π 0 production ratios were found to be 0.87 ± 0.17 and 0.9 ± 0.25, respectively, at 3.5 GeV and constant up to 7 GeV/ c . The large meson/ π 0 production ratio supports the hypothesis that high- p T mesons are the leading fragments of the basic constituent jet. The η ′/ η ratio exemplifies the SU(3) singlet nature of the η ′.

The average transverse momentum squared, 〈 p ⊥ 2 〉, of hadrons is studied as a function of W 2 and of Q 2 for ν and ν interactions on an isoscalar target. An increase of 〈 p ⊥ 2 〉 with W 2 is observed for the hadrons emitted forward in the hadronic c.m.s. The p ⊥ dependence of the fragmentation function is found to factorise from the structure function at fixed W , but does not factorise at fixed Q 2 . Unlike the case of forward-going particles, the 〈 p ⊥ 2 〉 of hadrons going backward in the c.m.s. shows no strong dependence on W 2 .

This paper presents the final results on charged-current neutrino and antineutrino interactions with nuclei from experiment E-310 at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. The data sample, consisting of 21 578 neutrino-induced and 7358 antineutrino-induced events within the fiducial region in the energy range 20<E<325 GeV, is exhibited first to demonstrate the basic properties and kinematic regions represented. The dependence of the nucleon structure functions on the dimensionless variable x and on neutrino energy is then described. Lastly, the variations of the structure functions with x and Q2 are presented. The emphasis throughout has been to understand the effects on the final results of uncertainties in the systematic corrections required by the data. Comparisons with the results of other neutrino experiments are made.

In a selected sample of 6770 charged current (CC) events of νp interactions with 〈 E ν 〉 = 43 GeV and 〈W〉 = 4.6 GeV , 359 K 0 , 180 Λ and 13 Λ have been observed, which corresponds to a corrected production rate at least one neutral strange particle in (17.4±0.8)% of the CC events. The ratio of the inclusive Λ to K 0 production cross section is found to be 0.26±0.03. The number of CC events containing at least one K 0 increases with increasing E ν and Q 2 , while the CC events containing at least one Λ remain practically constant. The fractions of the total hadronic energy carried by K 0 and Λ are found to be approximately the same in νp as in ep and μp interactions. In the hadronic c.m.s., the K 0 are produced mostly forwards, the Λ mostly backwards, with asymmetry parameters of +0.32±0.02 and −0.45±0.06, respectively. The total strange particle production cross section is estimated to be (25±4)% of the cross section for production of CC events with W >1.5 GeV and that for charm production (10±2)% of the CC cross section well above charm threshold ( W >3 GeV). The production of the resonances K ∗+ (890) and Σ + (1385) has been observed. The production rate of K ∗+ (890) is comparable to that of D ∗+ (2009), above the corresponding thresholds.

At the ϒ (4S), however, the K 0 yield is significantly higher, 1.58 ± 0.35. Distributions of the Feynman x variable have been determined for positive and negative pions in charged current neutrino-proton and antineutrino-proton reactions with hadronic energy W > 3 GeV and Bjorken x B > 0.1. The distributions have been corrected for experimental effects such as measurement errors, uncertainties in estimating the neutrino energy and particle misidentification. In the framework of the quark-parton model, the distributions yield information about the fragmentation of forward going u and d quarks and backward going uu and ud diquarks. Approximate Feynman scaling is observed for the invariant Feynman x F distributions. They can be fitted by a power law of the form (1 − | x F |) n as suggested by the dimensional counting rules. Simple isospin relations predicted by the quark-parton model are fulfilled. The fragmentation of diquarks is compared with that of protons into π ± .

Inclusive neutrino and antineutrino charged current interactions were studied in the CHARM detector exposed to neutrino and antineutrino Wide Band Beams of the CERN 400 GeV SPS. The x and Q 2 dependence of the structure functions F 2 and xF 3 and of the antiquark momentum distribution q were determined. The data have been interpreted in terms of QCD theory using the Furmanski-Petronzio method. In this way we have determined Λ LO = [190 −40 +70 ( stat ) ± 70 ( syst .)] MeV and the structure functions of quarks and gluons without specific assumptions on their analytic dependence. The results agree with previous experiments which relied on model assumptions in the analysis. We conclude that the model independent simultaneous analysis of the xF 3 , F 2 , q structure functions gives a more reliable determination of the gluon distribution in the nucleon.

About 2000 neutral induced interactions observed inside the hydrogen filled TST in BEBC have been analysed. The data were obtained from an exposure to the v μ wide band beam at the CERN SPS. A separation of these events into charged current, neutral current and neutral hadron induced interactions have been achieved using a multidimensional kinematic analysis. The neutral to charged current cross section ratio for v μ interactions on free protons has been determined avoiding the drastic cuts on the data inherent in previous experiments. The result R P v = 0.47 ± 0.04 is compatible with those measurements and the prediction of the standard SU (2) × U (1) model for sin 2 θ W = 0.18 ± 0.04.

Using the data on deep inelastic muon scattering on iron and deuterium the ratio of the nucleon structure functions F 2 N ( Fe )/ F 2 N ( D ) is presented. The observed x -dependence of this ratio is in disagreement with existing theoretical predictions.
