The inclusive production cross section of ω 0 and η′ were measured at transverse momenta of 3 to 7GeV/ c at 90° in the centre of mass. The ω 0 /π 0 and η′/π 0 production ratios were found to be 0.87 ± 0.17 and 0.9 ± 0.25, respectively, at 3.5 GeV and constant up to 7 GeV/ c . The large meson/ π 0 production ratio supports the hypothesis that high- p T mesons are the leading fragments of the basic constituent jet. The η ′/ η ratio exemplifies the SU(3) singlet nature of the η ′.

Experimental Limits on the Strength of Weak Neutral Currents in Lepton Pair Production at {PETRA} Energies

The JADE collaboration Bartel, W. ; Cords, D. ; Dittmann, P. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 99 (1981) 281-286, 1981.
Inspire Record 156813 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27121

The processes e + e − → e + e − and μ + μ − have been studied at PETRA using the JADE detector. The data, which were collected at s -values of up to 1300 GeV 2 have been analysed in terms of an electro-weak extension of QED to obtain values for the weak vector and axial vector couplings in the lepton sector. The values obtained agree with the predictions of the standard Salam-Weinberg model and the data are further analysed in terms of this model to obtain the limits 0.10 < sin 2 ϑ w < 0.40 (68% CL). The mass of the neutral weak gauge boson is deduced to be greater than 51 GeV/ c 2 .

Determination of the Neutral to Charged Current Cross-section Ratio for Neutrino Interactions on Protons

The BEBC TST Neutrino collaboration Armenise, N. ; Calicchio, M. ; Erriquez, O. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 122 (1983) 448-454, 1983.
Inspire Record 182504 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30812

About 2000 neutral induced interactions observed inside the hydrogen filled TST in BEBC have been analysed. The data were obtained from an exposure to the v μ wide band beam at the CERN SPS. A separation of these events into charged current, neutral current and neutral hadron induced interactions have been achieved using a multidimensional kinematic analysis. The neutral to charged current cross section ratio for v μ interactions on free protons has been determined avoiding the drastic cuts on the data inherent in previous experiments. The result R P v = 0.47 ± 0.04 is compatible with those measurements and the prediction of the standard SU (2) × U (1) model for sin 2 θ W = 0.18 ± 0.04.

A Comparison of Charged Current Cross-sections and Structure Functions for Neutrino and Anti-neutrinos Beams on Hydrogen and Neon

Nucl.Phys.B 232 (1984) 1-20, 1984.
Inspire Record 192873 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33899

Using BEBC equipped with a hydrogen-filled neon-surrounded track-sensitive target, the charged current cross sections and structure functions of hydrogen and neon targets traversed by the same neutrinos and antineutrinos are compared directly. The measured total cross-section ratios between hydrogen and neon allow precise total cross-section values for hydrogen to be inferred. Using this normalization, the ν and ν hydrogen data are combined and the quark distributions in free nucleons, parametrised as functions of ξ, are extracted. This free-nucleon parametrisation is then compared directly with the neon data in order to measure nuclear effects such as those recently reported by the EMC collaboration. Only small effects are seen, in excellent agreement with recent SLAC data in a more similar A and q 2 range.

DETERMINATION OF THE NEUTRAL TO CHARGED CURRENT CROSS-SECTION RATIO FOR ANTI-NEUTRINOS INTERACTIONS ON PROTONS

Phys.Lett.B 138 (1984) 230-234, 1984.
Inspire Record 204297 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30573

An exposure of BEBC equipped with the hydrogen-filled TST to the v μ wide band beam at the CERN SPS has been used to study v μ interactions on free protons. About neutral induced interactions have been observed inside the hydrogen and separated into charged current, neutral current and neutral hadron interactions using a multivariate discriminant analysis based on the kinematics of the events. The neutral to charged current cross-section ratio has been determined to be R p v = 0.33 ± 0.04 . When combined with the value of R p v previously determined in the same experiment, the result is compatible with the prediction of the standard SU (2) × U (1) model for sin 2 θ W = 0.24 −0.08 +0.06 and ρ = 1.07 −0.08 +0.06 . Fixing the parameter ρ = 1 yields sin 2 θ W = 0.18 ± 0.04.

We have found 122 charmed-particle decays among 3855 neutrino interactions located in the fiducial volume of a hybrid emulsion spectrometer installed in the Fermilab wide-band neutrino beam. We obtain an average relative charmed-particle production cross section of σ(ν μ → c μ − ) σ(ν μ →μ − ) =4.9 −0.6 +0.7 % , at an average neutrino energy of 22 GeV. We also obtain a production rate of σ(ν μ → c c ν μ ) σ(ν μ →ν μ ) =0.13 −0.11 +0.31 % , if we assume that there was an undetected muon, a limit of σ(ν μ → c c μ − ) σ(ν μ → c μ − )<3% (90% CL ) can be obtained. Other cross section ratios and limits are also presented.

Phys.Rev.D 41 (1990) 3297-3316, 1990.
Inspire Record 306084 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.22936

Total and differential cross sections for νμe→νμe and ν¯μe→ν¯μe are measured. Values for the model-independent neutral-current couplings of the electron are found to be gV=−0.107±0.035(stat)±0.028(syst) and gA=−0.514±0.023(stat)±0.028(syst). The electroweak mixing parameter sin2θW is determined to be 0.195±0.018(stat)±0.013(syst). Limits are set for the charge radius and magnetic moment of the neutrino as (〈r2〉)<0.24×10−32 cm2 and fμ<0.85×10−9 Bohr magnetons, respectively.

Global Properties of Pion Production in the Reaction $\gamma \gamma \to 3 \pi^+ 3 \pi^-$

Phys.Lett.B 245 (1990) 298-304, 1990.
Inspire Record 296189 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29695

We have studied the properties of pion production in the reaction γ →3 π + 3 π − in the energy range 1.6⩽ W γγ ⩽7.5 GeV with the CELLO detector at PETRA. We present the topological cross section both for Q 2 ≈0 (anti-tag) and Q 2 ≈0 (single-tag). The Q 2 dependence of the cross section is flatter than the GVDM prediction. The distribution of the production angle of the pions in the CMS peaks at small angles, indicating a peripheral process. In accordance with the VDM picture the p T distribution of the pions manifests an exponential fall-off. Like sign pion pairs were found to be Bose-Einstein correlated. We use this correlation to estimate the spatial dimensions of the interaction region.

A Measurement of photon radiation in lepton pair events from Z0 decays

The OPAL collaboration Acton, P.D. ; Alexander, G. ; Allison, J. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 273 (1991) 338-354, 1991.
Inspire Record 319674 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.48520

We have measured the photon yield in lepton pair events recorded by the OPAL detector in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.1 pb −1 at centre-of-mass energies between 88 GeV and 94 GeV. The results are compared to QED expectations for initial and final state photon radiation. No anomalous photon yield has been found, and stringent limits on the branching ratio for exotic radiative three body Z 0 decays into a photon and a pair of leptons are obtained. We also place limits on possible Z 0 decays into a photon and a resonance X with subsequent decays of X into a pair of leptons. Acollinear μ + μ − events with missing momentum along the beam direction are identified as events with hard initial state photon radiation and used to measure an average cross section of 15 ± 8 6 pb for e + e − annihilation into μ + μ − , in the so far untested range of centre-of-mass energies between 60 GeV and 84 GeV. This value is consistent with a cross section of 24 pb, expected from Z 0 and photon exchange.

Using the CELLO detector, we have measured cross sections for the processγγ→π+π− in the mass range 0.75–1.9 GeV/c2. A partial wave fit to the data indicates the presence of a sizeableS-wave amplitude with signs of resonant behaviour. Values for the γγ width of thef2(1270) are given, showing the model-dependence of this quantity. At higher dipion masses, the model of Brodsky and Lepage is found to give an order of magnitude description of the data.
