Polarization angular distributions of K + p elastic scattering have been measured at 1.22 and 2.48 GeV/ c . Over the measured range of − t the polarization is generally large and positive. The data at 1.22 GeV/ c resolve an ambiguity in a recently published phase-shift analysis, favouring the solution which requires no resonance in the K + p system.

The electromagnetic form factor of the pion has been determined in the ϱ o resonance region by measuring the absolute cross section of the reaction e + e − → π + π − with the Orsay storage ring. More than 800 pion pairs have been detected. The excitation curve has been fitted with a Breit-Wigner formula which leads to the following values: σ peak = (1.69 ± 0.21) 10 −30 cm 2 ; m ϱ = (770 ± 4) MeV ; Γ ϱ = (111 ± 6) MeV . The partial width of the ϱ o going into e + e − thus obtained is: Γ ϱ → e + e − =(7.36±0.7) keV .

Negative Pion Production from Neutrons by Polarized gamma Rays

The differential asymmetry ratio for the process γ+n→p+π− was measured at 90° in the center-of-mass system and for incident photon energies from 352 to 550 MeV. The observed asymmetries are larger than the values predicted from the theory by Berends, Donnachie, and Weaver. A smaller M1- amplitude gives better agreement between the experiment and the theory.

$\bar{p} -p$ Elastic Scattering at 6.9 GeV/c

Phys.Rev.Lett. 21 (1968) 175-177, 1968.
Inspire Record 54434 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.198

The p¯−p elastic scattering at 6.9 GeV/c was studied by the analysis of antiproton film taken by the Brookhaven National Laboratory 80-in. hydrogen bubble chamber. The cross section of the elastic scattering was 14.7 ± 1.5 mb. The angular distribution showed a dip in the region of −t≈0.6 (GeV/c)2 and a secondary maximum at −t≈0.8 (GeV/c)2.

AN INVESTIGATION OF THE 1.4-GeV/c**2 NUCLEON ISOBAR IN PROTON PROTON INTERACTIONS

The production of N ∗ (1400) isobar in the reaction pp → pN ∗+ (1400), where N ∗ (1400) → n π + and p π 0 , is investigated with the aid of one-pion exchange model. The one-pion exchange mechanism does not seem to dominate the production process. The isospin of N ∗ (1400) is found to be I = 1 2 , and the elasticity of the resonance is estimated to be 0.66.

Final results are presented from a spark-chamber experiment performed at the Princeton-Pennsylvania Accelerator to measure the differential cross section near 0° for the reaction π−p→π0n. The data are extrapolated to 0° and the results of the extrapolation are compared with the results of other experiments and with dispersion relation predictions. The values of the forward-scattering amplitude for the fifteen values of incident π− momentum at which measurements were made are as follows: (p (MeV/c), (dσdΩ)0° (mb/sr)): (561,3.28), (636,2.95), (687,3.38), (750,2.48), (802,1.33), (930,2.42), (1005,3.15), (1030,3.43), (1077,1.70), (1134,1.04), (1434,0.31), (1579,0.56), (1711,0.73), (1914,0.87), (2106,0.56). The combined statistical and systematic uncertainties in these values is about ±9%. A description of the apparatus, a discussion of the methods of analysis, and a discussion of the errors contributing to the uncertainties in the above results are included in the text.

eta and eta-prime Production near Thresholds and Backward Charge-Exchange Differential Cross Section in pi--p Reactions

We have performed an experiment to study the reaction π−+p→η+n near threshold, preliminary to a forthcoming measurement of charge asymmetry in η-meson decay. The η was identified by the velocity of the associated neutron. We detected neutrons produced in the forward hemisphere in the center-of-mass system corresponding to the most energetic neutrons in the laboratory. Data were taken at π− momenta between 670 and 805 MeVc. The four neutron detectors made it possible to detect neutrons at angles of 0° to 21° from the incident pion beam. We present backward differential cross sections for both pion charge exchange and η production calculated from the data. We looked for η′ at pion momenta of 1.5 BeVc and observed none. We obtained σ(π−p→nη′)≤60 μb.

PHOTOPRODUCTION OF eta0 MESONS AT 4-Gev

We have measured η0 photoproduction at 4 GeV. We find our results to be consistent with a theoretical preduction relating this cross section to ω0 production by π mesons using a vector-dominance model; there is no evidence for a dip or change of slope at −t=0.6 as seen in π0 photoproduction.
