p p elastic total and differential cross sections were measured at 17 incident momenta in the range 374–680 MeV/ c . No prominent feature was seen in them to clearly indicate the existence of the S-meson. There is, however, a small enhancement at the S-meson mass, which is equivalent to the elastic total cross section of 4.6 ± 2.1 mb. The behavior of the Legendre expansion coefficients of the angular distributions with incident momentum agrees well the predictions of the OBE model of Bryan and Phillips.

The differential cross sections of the reactions e + e − → e + e − and e + e − → λλ are measured at energies between 33.0 and 36.7 GeV. The results agree with the predictions of quantum electrodynamics. A comparison with the standard model of electroweak interaction yields sin 2 θ W = 0.25 ± 0.13.

We have measured the reaction ee → μμ and ee → ττ at center of mass energies from 9.4 to 31.6 GeV. The production cross sections are in agreement with the predictions of quantum electrodynamics, resulting in cutoff parameter limits of 70–100 GeV at 95% c.l. The branching ratio for τ → μν ν has been determined as [1.78 ± 2.0 (statist.) ± 1.8(syst.)]% The existence of a new sequential heavy lepton with a mass <14.5 GeV is excluded at 95% c.l.

Energy Dependence of the $P P \to \pi^+ D$ Differential Cross-section Between 500-{MeV} and 600-{MeV}

The unpolarized differential cross section for the reaction pp→π + d has been measured at SIN at seven energies between 514 and 583 MeV. Data are presented in terms of a Legendre polynomial expansion. An observed strong energy dependence of the 4th order coefficient can be understood as a threshold phenomenon in a phenomenological NΔ resonant description. No evidence was found for a 1 D 2 dibaryon resonance near 600 MeV.

Experimental Limits on the Strength of Weak Neutral Currents in Lepton Pair Production at {PETRA} Energies

Phys.Lett.B 99 (1981) 281-286, 1981.
Inspire Record 156813 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27121

The processes e + e − → e + e − and μ + μ − have been studied at PETRA using the JADE detector. The data, which were collected at s -values of up to 1300 GeV 2 have been analysed in terms of an electro-weak extension of QED to obtain values for the weak vector and axial vector couplings in the lepton sector. The values obtained agree with the predictions of the standard Salam-Weinberg model and the data are further analysed in terms of this model to obtain the limits 0.10 < sin 2 ϑ w < 0.40 (68% CL). The mass of the neutral weak gauge boson is deduced to be greater than 51 GeV/ c 2 .

Experimental Test of Electroweak Effects at {PETRA} Energies

The differential cross sections for Bhabha scattering and μ pair production, and the total τ pair cross section as measured by the PLUTO detector at PETRA, have been analyzed to extract information on the weak interaction of leptons. The data are compared with unified gauge theories. Since the observed electroweak effects are still consistent with zero (within errors) we can set experimental limits on neutral current parameters atQ2 values of 950 GeV2. In the framework of the standard SU(2)×U(1) model we find sin2Θw<0.52(95% c.l.). In the context of general singleZo models we can excludeZo masses of less than 40 GeV.

Data are presented for the reaction ep → ep π 0 at a nominal momentum transfer squared of 1.0 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The data were obtained using an extracted electron beam from NINA and two magnetic spectrometers for coincidence detection of the electron and proton. The ratio of π − to π + electroproduction cross sections from deuterons has been measured in the resonance region at an average four-momentum transfer squared of 0.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 . Results are presented over a wide range of pion production angles and comparisons are made with theoretical predictions based on SU(6) w symmetry and the Melosh transformation.

Search for Narrow Baryons in $\pi^- p$ Elastic Scattering at Large Angles

Phys.Lett.B 94 (1980) 533-540, 1980.
Inspire Record 153784 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27177

Hoping to find resonant structures in the momentum dependence of π − p elastic scattering we have measured the differential cross section for this reaction at c.m. angles near 90°. An intense pion beam (≈ 10 7 π /s) has been used, together with a high incident momentum resolution (d P / P ≈ 2 × 10 −4 ), to scan the region of laboratory momenta from 5.75 to 13.02 GeV/ c (c.m. energy from 3.42 to 5.03 GeV). The sensitivity attained by the experiment is such that signals would have been seen corresponding to the formation of non-strange baryon resonances having width larger than ≈ 0.1 MeV and elasticity larger than a few per cent. Within these limits no resonances were sighted.

This paper presents the results of a study of the dominant neutral final states from π−p interactions. The data were obtained in an experiment performed at the Brookhaven National Laboratory Alternating Gradient Synchrotron, using a set of steel-plate optical spark chambers surrounding a liquid-hydrogen target. We present differential and total cross sections for the reactions (1) π−p→n+π0 and (2) π−p→n+η0(η0→2γ) and total cross sections for the reactions (3) π−p→n+kπ0 (k=2, 3, 4, and 5) and (4) π−p→all neutrals for eighteen values of beam momentum in the interval 1.3 to 4.0 GeV/c. The angular distributions for (1) and (2) have been analyzed in terms of expansions in Legendre polynomials, the coefficients for which are also given.
