The reaction γp→; π + π − p in the energy range 4.1 to 6.2 GeV has been studied with a tagged photon beam incident on a liquid hydrogen target in the DESY one-meter streamer chamber. The reaction is analysed in terms of the longitudinal phase space (LPS) method. The one-pion-exchange model for Δ(1236) production and decay is examined. For the diffractive part of the LPS a dual model with pomeron exchange is investigated. In particular, the s -channel helicity conservation dual model of Dewey and Humpert describes the data well.

The polarization of scattered antiproton in\(\bar pp\) elastic scattering has been measured at the kinetic energy of 220MeV by means of double scattering in a bubble chamber. The polarizations obtained are 0.28±0.11, 0.46±0.12, 0.51±0.19 and 0.38±0.31 at the scattering angles 28°, 42°, 56° and 73° in the c.m. system, respectively. These results do not seem to be in good agreement with a prediction given by Bryan and Phillips. We have also compared these data with a modified diffraction model.

We have found 431 events of the reaction K+d→K0pps at 3.8−GeVc K+ beam momentum in a 295 000-frame exposure of the Argonne National Laboratory 30-in. deuterium-filled bubble chamber. The event sample consists of one- and two-prong events with a visible K0 decaying to π+π− The total and differential cross sections are found after correction for unseen K0's and for efficiencies in the scanning-measuring-fitting chain. Comparisons of the data are made to an SU(3) sum rule, a Regge model, and data for K−p→K¯0n.

THE GLAUBER CORRECTION IMPLIES AN INCREASE IN THE CROSS SECTIONS BY THE FACTOR 1.016. THE PAULI CORRECTION IS SLIGHT EXCEPT AT LOW -T (<0.2 GEV**2) WHERE IT IS LARGE AND UNCERTAIN.

Differential cross sections for π±p, K±p, pp, and p¯p elastic scattering were measured at 3, 3.65, 5, and 6 GeVc for momentum transfers from 0.03 to 1.5 GeV2 using the Argonne effective mass spectrometer. Particular attention was paid to the relative particle-antiparticle normalization. The crossover points are consistent with no energy dependence, average values being 0.14 ± 0.03, 1.190 ± 0.005, and 0.160 ± 0.007 GeV2 for π's, K's, and protons, respectively.

The slope b(s) of the forward diffraction peak of p−p elastic scattering has been measured in the momentum-transfer-squared range 0.005≲|t|≲0.09 (GeV/c)2 and at incident proton energies from 8 to 400 GeV. We find that b(s) increases with s, and in the interval 100≲s≲750 (GeV)2 it can be fitted by the form b(s)=b0+2α′lns with b0=8.23±0.27, α′=0.278±0.024 (GeV/c)−2.

From measurements of proton-proton elastic scattering at very small momentum transfers where the nuclear and Coulomb amplitudes interfere, we have deduced values of ρ, the ratio of the real to the imaginary forward nuclear amplitude, for energies from 50 to 400 GeV. We find that ρ increases from -0.157 ± 0.012 at 51.5 GeV to +0.039 ± 0.012 at 393 GeV, crossing zero at 280 ± 60 GeV.

We have measured the differential cross sections for the associated-production reactions π−p→K0Λ0 and π−p→K0Σ0 at 3, 4, 5, and 6 GeV/c, with a total of over 40 000 events. We find that both reactions have exponential forward peaks for −t≲0.4 (GeV/c)2, with no indication of forward-direction flattening or turnover; the slopes of the forward peaks show little if any variation with momentum; and the two cross sections are equal within experimental error from −t=1.2 (GeV/c)2 out to at least −t=2.0 (GeV/c)2.

We have measured the Λ° polarization in π − p→ K°Λ° at 5 GeV / c , using a data sample of 3709 events. The polarization is positive for small t , passes through zero near t = −0.3 (GeV/ c ) 2 , and becomes large and negative at larger t , consistent with a value of −1.0 for t between −0.7 and −1.6(GeV/ c ) 2 .

We present new measurements of the differential cross sections for K − p → K 0 n at 3, 4, 5 and 6 GeV/ c , where we have 248, 538, 761, and 376 events, respectively. Total cross sections are obtained by integrating the differential cross sections. We combine our data with other data from 3 to 15.7 GeV/ c to calculate an effective Regge trajectory for this reaction. Comparisons are made to predictions from exchange degeneracy and SU(3) sum rules.
