Neutral Kaon Production in K+ p Interactions at 32-GeV/c

The French-Soviet & CERN-Soviet collaborations Gerdyukov, L.N. ; Gorbunov, P.A. ; Klimenko, S.V. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 133 (1978) 93, 1978.
Inspire Record 122185 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.35163

The production of neutral kaons in the reaction K + p → K n + X is studied at the incident momentum of 32 GeV/ c . Inclusive cross sections and single-particle distributions are presented and compared with the data at lower energies. The total inclusive cross section amounts to 7.9 ± 0.3 mb at 32 GeV/ c and is significantly higher than at lower energies due to the rapid rise of multikaon production. The fraction of K n 's coming from the decay of the K ∗ resonances stays roughly constant with energy between 8.2 and 32 GeV/ c . In the central and beam fragmentation regions the single-particle distributions reveal no energy dependence between the 16 and 32 GeV/ c data in contrast with the behaviour at lower energies, while in the proton fragmentation region the data are compatible with the trend observed at lower energies and with theoretical expectations.

A Comparison of K+- n Charge Exchange Reactions at 8.5-GeV/c and 13-GeV/c

Gilchriese, M.G.D. ; Dunwoodie, W.M. ; Fieguth, T.H. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 40 (1978) 6, 1978.
Inspire Record 120363 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20886

The cross sections for the line-reversed reaction pairs K+n→K0p and K−p→K¯0n, and K+p→K0Δ++ and K−n→K¯0Δ− have been determined with high statistics and good relative normalization at 8.36 and 12.8 GeV/c in a spectrometer experiment at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The cross sections for the K+-induced reactions are larger than for the K−, contrary to the expectations of weakly-exchange-degenerate Regge-pole models. The ratio of the reaction cross sections is about the same as at lower energies and shows little change with momentum transfer.

Electroproduction of $\phi$ mesons

Dixon, Roger L. ; Galik, R. ; Herzlinger, M. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 39 (1977) 516, 1977.
Inspire Record 120120 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20949

We report measurements of the electroproduction of ϕ mesons from hydrogen at Q2 values of 0.23, 0.43, and 0.97 GeV2 with |t| varying from 0.125 to 1.3 GeV2 at each Q2 point. The data show no evidence for a Q2 dependence of the slope of the t distribution; the forward cross section falls with increasing Q2 as the square of the ϕ propagator; the decay angular distributions agree with the predictions of s-channel helicity conservation; and the ratio of the longitudinal to the transverse component increases linearly with Q2.

A Study of the Charge Exchange Reaction p p --> n Delta++ (1232) at ISR Energies

de Kerret, H. ; Nagy, E. ; Orr, R.S. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 69 (1977) 372-376, 1977.
Inspire Record 120459 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27539

We report on a study of the charge-exchange reaction pp → nΔ ++ (1232) at the CERN intersecting storage rings (ISR) in the energy range √ s = 23 to 53 GeV. From our analysis of the energy dependence of the total cross-section, of the differential cross-section d σ /d t and of the decay angular distributions we find evidence that pion exchange is dominant up to √ s = 23 GeV and that ( ϱ +A 2 ) exchange dominates the reaction for √ s ⩾ 30 GeV, as described by simple Regge-pole models.

Evidence for a Change of Slope in Large t Elastic Proton Proton Scattering at s**(1/2) = 53-GeV

de Kerret, H. ; Nagy, E. ; Orr, R.S. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 68 (1977) 374-376, 1977.
Inspire Record 119741 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27564

New experimental results are presented on proton-proton elastic scattering in the range of momentum transfer 4 GeV 2 < − t < 10 GeV 2 at the centre-of-mass energy of √ s = 53 GeV. The data have been obtained using the Split-Field Magnet detector at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings. We observe another change of slope of the differential cross section near − t =6.5 GeV 2 .

Small Angle Photon Scattering on Complex Nuclei

Inspire Record 118811 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.35513

Photons of 3 GeV and 5 GeV were scattered on 7 different elements, ranging from Be to Au, and detected with a pair spectrometer. The angular distributions show diffractive patterns consistent with known nuclear sizes. Forward cross sections are 20–30% lower than expected from an A 2 dependence. This shadowing effect is qualitatively explained by photon interactions via intermediate hadronic states.

Small Angle Compton Scattering on Hydrogen and Deuterium

Criegee, L. ; Franke, G. ; Giese, A. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 121 (1977) 31-37, 1977.
Inspire Record 118810 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.35467

We have measured elastic scattering of 5 and 6 GeV photons on hydrogen and deuterium in the angular range 10–50 mrad. On hydrogen we observe a forward diffraction peak with a slope of 8.5 (GeV/ c ) −2 . The extrapolated forward cross sections in units μ b/(GeV/ c ) 2 are 0.82 ± 0.04 at 5 GeV and 0.79 ± 0.04 at 6 GeV. They are consistent with the calculated amplitudes obtained from total cross section measurements via the optical theorem and dispersion relations assuming negligible contributions of spin-dependent amplitudes. Deuterium cross sections show a transition from coherent scattering at low | t | to incoherent scattering at higher | t |. They indicate that the isovector exchange amplitude a 1 is very small compared to the isoscalar a 0 . We obtain |a 1 | 2 /|a 0 +a 1 | 2 =0.13±0.09 , Re (a 0 a ∗ 1 )/|a 0 +a 1 | 2 =0.0±0.03, at 5 GeV , |a 1 | 2 /|a 0 +a 1 | 2 =−0.12±0.15 , Re (a 0 a ∗ 1 )/|a 0 +a 1 | 2 =0.10±0.04, at 6 GeV .

Study of the Reactions pi+ p --> pi0 Delta++ (1236), eta Delta++ (1236) and eta-prime Delta++ (1236) at 16-GeV/c

Inspire Record 122492 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.35195

The reactions π + p giving π 0 Δ ++ (1236), η (549) Δ ++ (1236) and η ′(958) Δ ++ (1236) are studied at 16 GeV/ c . Cross sections, differential cross sections and Δ ++ (1236) spin density matrix elements are presented. The π 0 Δ ++ (1236) differential cross section d σ d t′ indicates a dip towards t ′ = 0 and has a minimum at t ′ ≅ 0.6 GeV 2 . The Δ ++ (1236) spin density matrix elements are consistent with the predictions of the Stodolsky-Sakurai model, except perhaps near the forward direction. For ηΔ ++ (1236), the differential cross section d σ d t′ turns over in the forward direction and presents no further structure. SU(3) sum rules are tested and found to be approximately satisfied. The data agree with factorization of ϱ exchange. The effective A 2 trajectory is calculated and found to be consistent with that reported from the reaction π − p → η n.
