Photon proton cross sections for elastic light vector meson production, σelνp, inelastic diffractive production, σndνp, non-diffractive production, σdνp, as well as the total cross section, σtotνp, have been measured at an average υp center of mass energy of 180 GeV with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The resulting values are σelνp = 18 ± 7 μb, σdνp = 33 ± 8 μb, σndνp = 91 ± 11 μb, and σtotνp 143 ± 17 μb, where the errors include statistical and systematic errors added in quadrature.

Measurement of the ratio sigma B (W ---> e neutrino) / sigma B (Z0 ---> e+ e-) in anti-p p collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.8-TeV

Phys.Rev.Lett. 73 (1994) 220-224, 1994.
Inspire Record 373743 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.50100

We present a measurement of the ratio σB(W→eν)σB(Z0→e+e−) in p¯p collisions at s=1.8 TeV The data represent an integrated luminosity of 21.7 pb−1 from the 1992-1993 run of the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We find σB(W→eν)σB(Z0→e+e−)=10.90±0.32(stat)±0.29(syst). From this value, we extract a value for the W width, Γ(W)=2.064±0.061(stat)±0.059(syst) GeV, and the branching ratio, Γ(W→eν)Γ(W)=0.1094±0.0033(stat)±0.0031(syst), and we set a decay-mode-independent limit on the top quark mass mtop>62 GeV/c2 at the 95% C.L.

Electromagnetic dissociation of U-238 at 120 MeV/nucleon

Justice, M.L. ; Blumenfeld, Y. ; Colonna, N. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.C 49 (1994) R5-R9, 1994.
Inspire Record 389446 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.25976

Electromagnetic fission cross sections of a 120 MeV/nucleon U238 beam incident on five targets, Be9, Al27, Cunat, Agnat, and Unat, have been extracted from measurements of projectile velocity fission fragments. The nuclear interaction contributions to the experimentally observed cross sections were determined by extrapolation from the Be target data using a geometrical scaling model and by an empirical decomposition of the fission charge distributions. The results are compared to model calculations in which electric quadrupole excitations have been included.

Measurement of the proton structure function F2 in e p scattering at HERA

The ZEUS collaboration Derrick, M. ; Krakauer, D. ; Magill, S. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 316 (1993) 412-426, 1993.
Inspire Record 357414 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28804

This paper presents our first measurement of the F 2 structure function in neutral-current, deep inelastic scattering using the ZEUS detector at HERA, the ep colliding beam facility at DESY. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 24.7 nb −1 . Results are presented for data in range of Q 2 from 10 GeV 2 to 4700 GeV 2 and Bjorken x down to 3.0 × 10 −4 . The F 2 structure function increases rapidly as x decreases.

Mass and transverse momentum dependence of dielectron production in p + d and p + p collisions at 4.9-GeV

The DLS collaboration Huang, H.Z. ; Beedoe, S. ; Bougteb, M. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.C 49 (1994) 314-319, 1994.
Inspire Record 356615 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.38156

Dielectron production in p+d and p+p collisions at the beam kinetic energy of 4.9 GeV has been measured with the Dilepton Spectrometer. Features of the dielectron cross section have been studied with cuts on the mass and transverse momentum of the pairs. The spectra for several regions of phase space are presented as a function of the pair mass and transverse momentum.

Search for excited electrons using the ZEUS detector

The ZEUS collaboration Derrick, M. ; Krakauer, D. ; Magill, S. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 316 (1993) 207-218, 1993.
Inspire Record 355574 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.45106

This paper reports a search for excited electrons at the HERA electron-proton collider. In a sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 26 nb − , no evidence was found for any resonant state decaying into e − γ , ν W − or e − Z 0 . Limits on the coupling strength of an excited electron have been determined for masses between 45 and 225 GeV. This study also reports the observation of the wide-angle e γ Compton scattering process.

Mass dependence of pion production in heavy ion collisions near, but below threshold

Miller, J. ; Krebs, G.F. ; Panetta, J. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 314 (1993) 7-12, 1993.
Inspire Record 357754 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.38101

We have measured the inclusive cross section for production of negative pions near mid-rapidity in 20 Ne + NaF , 139 La + 139 La and 197 Au + 197 Au collisions at E = 183 and 236 MeV/u. Au + Au is the heaviest system from which subthreshold pion production has been measured to date. The dependence of the pion cross section on pion energy, beam energy and associated charged particle multiplicity is consistent with previous results both above and below threshold. The dependence of the cross section on the mass of the colliding system varies only slightly as the beam energy is reduced below threshold, in contrast to some previous measurements. Comparison with theory suggests that at these energies the pion production process is still dominated by nucleon-nucleon collisions.

Analyzing power measurement of p p elastic scattering in the Coulomb - nuclear interference region with the 200-GeV/c polarized proton beam at Fermilab

The E581/704 collaboration Akchurin, N. ; Langland, J. ; Onel, Y. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 48 (1993) 3026-3036, 1993.
Inspire Record 364576 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.22670

The analyzing power AN of proton-proton elastic scattering in the Coulomb-nuclear interference region has been measured using the 200-GeV/c Fermilab polarized proton beam. A theoretically predicted interference between the hadronic non-spin-flip amplitude and the electromagnetic spin-flip amplitude is shown for the first time to be present at high energies in the region of 1.5 × 10−3 to 5.0 × 10−2 (GeV/c)2 four-momentum transfer squared, and our results are analyzed in connection with theoretical calculations. In addition, the role of possible contributions of the hadronic spin-flip amplitude is discussed.

Observation of hard scattering in photoproduction at HERA

The ZEUS collaboration Derrick, M. ; Krakauer, D. ; Magill, S. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 297 (1992) 404-416, 1992.
Inspire Record 339388 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.45149

We report a study of electron proton collisions at very low Q 2 , corresponding to virtual photoproduction at centre of mass energies in the range 100–295 GeV. The distribution in transverse energy of the observed hadrons is much harder than can be explained by soft processes. Some of the events show back-to-back two-jet production at the rate and with the characteristics expected from hard two-body scattering. A subset of the two-jet events have energy in the electron direction consistent with that expected from the photon remnant in resolved photon processes.

The UA2 collaboration Alitti, J. ; Ambrosini, G. ; Ansari, R. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 299 (1993) 174-182, 1993.
Inspire Record 341576 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.48424

A measurement of the gluon structure fusion using direct photon events observed with the UA2 detector in p p collisions at √ s =630 GeV is presented. The x -range covered by this analysis is between 0.049 and 0.207 and the Q 2 range is between 280 GeV 2 and 3670 GeV 2 . The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 7.14 pb −1 . The results are found to be in good agreement with the gluon distributions measured in deep inelastic scattering experiments extrapolated to the UA2 Q 2 values.
