The inclusive production of ϱ 0 mesons in pp collisions has been measured at five c.m. energies from √ s = 23.6 to 63.0 GeV. The cross sections and the production spectra as a function of transverse momentum and rapidity are discussed.

We have measured total hadronic photoproduction cross sections on carbon, copper, and lead. Tagged-photon energies ranged from 20 to 185 GeV for copper and from 45 to 82 GeV for carbon and lead. The energy and A dependence of shadowing were computed by comparing these results to the hydrogen cross section as measured nearly simultaneously with the same apparatus. We observed somewhat more shadowing than did most experiments at lower photon energies.

We have observed the D(1285), E(1420) and δ(975) mesons produced in 12 and 15 GeV/ c π − p interactions at the CERN Omega Spectrometer. Production cross sections and decay branching ratios are presented. Analysis of the decay D(1285) → δ (975) π favours a spin-parity assignment of 1 + .

Inclusive cross sections for the production of π ± and K ± mesons in proton-proton collisions have been measured at a c.m. energy √ s = 45 GeV, in the range 0.41 < x < 0.95 and 0.35 < p T < 1.45 GeV, where x = 2 p L/√ s and p L , p T are the longitudinal and transverse components of the momentum of the meson. Within the measured range the p T dependence of the invariant cross section is essentially independent of x and weakly dependent on the type of particle. For all particles the invariant cross sections at fixed p T fall by three orders of magnitude between x = 0.4 and 0.95. Except at the highest values of x and p T , the statistical accuracy is better than 10%. The data are compared with a triple-Regge model and with a simple quark-parton model.

The experimental data on d-d collisions at 4.3, 6.3 and 8.9 GeV/ c , exhibiting the two-peak structure in the high-momentum parts of the secondary deuteron spectra at momentum transfers | t | ≈ 0.4–0.8 (GeV/ c ) 2 , are presented. An analysis of the results in terms of the multiple nucleon-nucleon scattering model is given. Some conclusions about the mechanism of the elastic and quasielastic d-d scattering at the above-mentioned momentum transfers are made.

Data on the reaction π − p → π + π − π 0 have been taken at 12 and 15 GeV/ c with the CERN Omega multiparticle spectrometer. In a 3-pion partial-wave analysis strong production of A 2 0 (1310) and ω ∗ (1675) is observed. Total and differential cross sections are determined and density matrix elements presented as a function of t in the t - and s -channel frames. The energy dependence of A 2 0 production is studied, and a comparison of ω(780), A 2 0 (1310) and ω ∗ (1675) production is made.

The Split Field Magnet facility at the CERN ISR has been used to measure inclusive resonance production in inelastic p-p collisions at a c.m. energy of 53 GeV. The mass spectrum of pairs of oppositely charged hadrons shows a strong correlation, which can be explained as a consequence of dominant vector meson production, accounting for more than 60% of all pions and kaons produced.
