The inclusive cross sections for π − , π 0 , π + and η production in K − p interactions at 14.3 GeV/ c are calculated. The invariant cross section distributions are presented and compared in the whole phase space for π + and π 0 , and in the backward c.m. region for π − . In the fragmentation regions, the charged pion production is analysed in terms of the triple-Regge model.

Narrow baryonium production in the baryon exchange reactions K − p → Λ p p and K − p → pK − p p at 18.5 GeV/ c is investigated in a 12 events/nb experiment performed at the CERN Ω′ spectrometer. No narrow structure is observed in the p p mass spectra. Upper limits for production of baryonium states are given as a function of p p mass.

The reaction γ p→K + K − p has been investigated with photons in the energy range of 20< E γ <36 GeV and with K + K − pairs in the mass range of M K + K − <2.0 GeV. The production of the φ(1019) contributes with a cross section σ ( γ p → φ p) × BR( φ →K + K − ) = 240±6 nb with an additional systematic error of ±20 nb. In the higher mass range of 1.05< M K + K − <2.0 GeV the production of K + K − pairs yields a cross section σ ( γ p→K + K − p) = 160±8 nb with an additional systematic error of +40 −30 nb.

We present experimental results and a partial-wave analysis of the low-mass ( K π) 0 systems produced in the reactions K − p → K π N at 14.3 GeV/ c . The main results concern the production mechanisms of the K ∗ (890) and K ∗ (1420) . We also extract the s-wave component of the K π system as a function of mass.

Search for New S Anti-s States in the $K^-$ Induced $K^+ K^-$ System

Inspire Record 190033 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33934

Results from the first PWA of the K + K − system produced by incident K − , are presented in the mass range from the threshold to 1.70 GeV. In the P and D waves only the φ and f′ mesons are observed and their production mechanism studied. A broad S wave peaking at 1.4 GeV is observed but the lack of information about its phase makes the search for new 0 ++ mesons inconclusive.

Inclusive Production of Lambdas and Anti-lambdas in $\gamma p$ Interactions for Photon Energies Between 25-{GeV} and 70-{GeV}

Results are presented on the inclusive photoproduction of λ and λ for incident photon energies between 25 and 70 GeV. The slope parameter of the p T 2 distribution is found to be 2.83±0.1 GeV −2 for λ and 3.28±0.25 GeV −2 for λ . The x F distributions, measured in the range −0.2 to 0.7, show that while λ are produced centrally, λ production extends to more negative values of x F ; the shapes show no energy dependence and are similar to those in pion-induced reactions. The polarization of the produced λ is less than 10%. The results are discussed in terms of vector dominance and quark fusion models.

Momentum Transfer Distributions of Some Diffractive Enhancements in K- p Interactions at 14.3-GeV/c

Nucl.Phys.B 123 (1977) 349-360, 1977.
Inspire Record 4400 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.35451

We discuss the structure of the momentum transfer distributions for the diffractive dissociation processes p → n π + , p → Δ ++ π − and K − → K 890 ∗0 π − . In the near-threshold mass region a clear break of slope is found around t ′KK ∼ 0.25 GeV 2 for the two baryonic channels, whereas no comparable structure is seen for the mesonic system. The K → K ∗ π differential cross section exhibits a nearly exponential behaviour up to t ′ pp ∼ 0.6 GeV 2 , falling over three orders of magnitude. The slope variations and breaks are strongly correlated both to the mass region considered and to the decay angle of the fragmentation system.

Comparison of n --> n + pi, n + pi + pi and Lambda + K Diffractive Excitation Systems at 14.3-GeV/c and 500-GeV/c-1500-GeV/c

We compare some aspects of the N→N π , N→N ππ and N → Λ K diffractive fragmentation systems induced by 14.3 GeV/ c incident K − mesons with those obtained in pp interactions at ISR energies. The similarity between the low-mass Nπ and Nππ systems produced by different incident particles at c.m. energies differing by an order of magnitude is very striking. The shapesof the mass spectra (not the M 2 / s spectra) are approximately independent of s , both in the resonant and non-resonant diffractive dissociation components. These findings, as well as features of the differential cross sections and decay angular distributions, indicate that the (asymptotic) diffractive dynamics operative at ISR energies is already dominant at 10–20 GeV/ c , remains essentially unchanged over this broad energy range, and has approximate vertex factorization properties.
