We have reconstructed the radiative decays $\chi_{b}(1P) \to \Upsilon(1S) \gamma $ and $\chi_{b}(2P) \to \Upsilon(1S) \gamma $ in $p \bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.8$ TeV, and measured the fraction of $\Upsilon(1S)$ mesons that originate from these decays. For $\Upsilon(1S)$ mesons with $p^{\Upsilon}_{T}>8.0$ GeV/$c$, the fractions that come from $\chi_{b}(1P)$ and $\chi_{b}(2P)$ decays are $(27.1\pm6.9(stat)\pm4.4(sys))%$ and $(10.5\pm4.4(stat)\pm1.4(sys))%$, respectively. We have derived the fraction of directly produced $\Upsilon(1S)$ mesons to be $(50.9\pm8.2(stat)\pm9.0(sys))%$.

The ratio of the exclusive production cross sections for φ and ω mesons has been measured in pp reactions at Tbeam=2.85GeV. The observed φ/ω ratio is (3.7±0.7−0.9+1.2)×10−3. After phase space corrections, this ratio is about a factor of 10 enhanced relative to naive predictions based upon the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka rule, in comparison to an enhancement by a factor of ∼3 previously observed at higher energies. The modest increase of this enhancement near the production threshold is compared to the much larger increase of the φ/ω ratio observed in specific channels of p¯p annihilation experiments.

We report on a measurement of the branching fraction of the Cabibbo-suppressed decay Bu+→J/ψπ+, where J/ψ→μ+μ−. The data were collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab during 1992–1995 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 110pb−1 in p¯p collisions at s=1.8TeV. A signal of 28−9+10 events is observed and we determine the ratio of branching fractions B(Bu+→J/ψπ+)/B(Bu+→J/ψK+) to be [5.0−1.7+1.9(stat)±0.1(syst)]%. Using the world average value for B(Bu+→J/ψK+), we calculate the branching fraction B(Bu+→J/ψπ+) to be (5.0−1.9+2.1)×10−5. We also search for the decay Bc+→J/ψπ+ and report a 95% confidence level limit on σ(Bc+)B(Bc+→J/ψπ+)/σ(Bu+)B(Bu+→J/ψK+) as a function of the Bc+ lifetime.

A study of the reactions p Xe → K + K + X , p Xe → K + H(H → Σ − p)X and p Xe → K + K + H(H → Σ − p)X was performed using the 700-litre xenon bubble chamber DIANA, exposed to the 1 GeV/ c antiproton beam of ITEP (Moscow). From a sample of 7.8 · 10 5 antiproton annihilations at low energy in xenon nuclei 4 events were observed for the reaction p Xe | → K + K + X at rest ( P p ≤ 400 MeV /c ) and 8 for the same reaction in flight ( 400 ≤ P p ≤ 900 MeV /c ). The corresponding probabilities turned out to be 3.1 · 10 −5 and 3.4 · 10 −5 , respectively. No H -event was found in the two semi-inclusive reactions p Xe → K + HX and p Xe → K + K + HX . This lead to the upper limits 6 · 10 −6 and 8 · 10 −6 (90% C.L.), respectively. The corresponding upper limit for the fully inclusive reaction p Xe → HX turned out to be 1.2 · 10 −5 (90% C.L.), which is about one order of magnitude lower than the actual value reported in the literature.

We report on measurements of the ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), and ϒ(3S) differential, (d2σdPtdy)y=0, and integrated cross sections in pp¯ collisions at s=1.8 TeV using a sample of 16.6 ± 0.6 pb−1 collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The three resonances were reconstructed through the decay ϒ→μ+μ−. Comparison is made to a leading order QCD prediction.

Inclusive $\rho^0$ Production in Anti-neutrino $p$ Charged Current Interactions

Using data from the Fermilab 15 ft hydrogen bubble chamber, we have studied inclusive ϱ 0 production in antineutrino-proton charged-current interactions. We measure (0.21 ± 0.03) ϱ 0 /event, corresponding to ϱ 0 / π − =0.12 ± 0.02. As a function of Q 2 and for hadronic masses above a threshold region, the ϱ 0 / π − ratio shows little variation. At least 50% of the ϱ 0 's are consistent with coming from the current fragmentation region. The results agree reasonably well with the predictions of the quark fragmentation model of Feynman and field.

In exposures of the Argonne National Laboratory 12-ft bubble chamber filled with hydrogen and deuterium to a neutrino beam, we have observed events consisting of (1) a single π+ meson originating in the liquid, and (2) a proton with an e+e− pair pointing to it. Only a small fraction of these events can be ascribed to known reactions such as np→nnπ+ and np→npπ0. The remaining events, which correspond to a signal of about 4.5 standard deviations, we ascribe to the reactions νp→νnπ+ and νpπ0.
