Search for baryon pairs production ine+e− annihilation at\(\sqrt s= 2386 MeV\) is reported. The data relate to a luminosity of 161 nb−1 collected by the DM2 experiment at DCI, the Orsay colliding ring. First measurements of directe+e− annihilation into\(\Lambda \bar \Lambda \) and ofe+e−→\(p\bar p\) at this energy are presented. First observation of a goode+e−→\(n\bar n\) candidate is reported and upper limits are given fore+e−→\(n\bar n, \Lambda \bar \sum ^0+ c.c.\) and\(\Sigma ^0 \bar \Sigma ^0 \).

Thee+e−→K+K− cross section has been measured from about 750 events in the energy interval\(1350 \leqq \sqrt s\leqq 2400 MeV\) with the DM2 detector at DCI. TheK± form factor |FF±| cannot be explained by the ρ, ω, ϕ and ρ′(1600). An additional resonant amplitude at 1650 MeV has to be added as suggested by a previous experiment.

We present measurements of Collins asymmetries in the inclusive process $e^+e^- \rightarrow h_1 h_2 X$, $h_1h_2=KK,\, K\pi,\, \pi\pi$, at the center-of-mass energy of 10.6 GeV, using a data sample of 468 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the BaBar experiment at the PEP-II $B$ factory at SLAC National Accelerator Center. Considering hadrons in opposite thrust hemispheres of hadronic events, we observe clear azimuthal asymmetries in the ratio of unlike- to like-sign, and unlike- to all charged $h_1 h_2$ pairs, which increase with hadron energies. The $K\pi$ asymmetries are similar to those measured for the $\pi\pi$ pairs, whereas those measured for high-energy $KK$ pairs are, in general, larger.
Light quark ($uds$) Collins asymmetries obtained by fitting the U/L and U/C double ratios as a function of ($z_1$,$z_2$) for kaon pairs. In the first column, the $z$ bins and their respective mean values for the kaon in one hemisphere are reported; in the following column, the same variables for the second kaon are shown; in the third column the mean value of $\sin^2\theta_{th}/(1+\cos^2\theta_{th})$ is summarized, calculated in the RF12 frame; in the last two columns the asymmetry results are summarized. The mean values of the quantities reported in the table are calculated by summing the corresponding values for each $KK$ pair and dividing by the number of $KK$ pairs that fall into each ($z_1$,$z_2$) interval. Note that the $A^{UL}$ and $A^{UC}$ results are strongly correlated since they are obtained by using the same data set.

A high-statistics measurement of the differential cross-sections for neutrino-iron scattering in the wide-band neutrino beam at the CERN SPS is presented. Nucleon structure functions are extracted and theirQ2 evolution is compared with the predictions of quantum chromodynamics.

A detailed study ofJ/ψ hadronic production has been performed in a high statistics experiment (more than 1.5 106J/ψ observed in their dimuon decay mode). Data have been taken with incident π±,K±,p±, on hydrogen and platinum targets, at 150, 200 and 280 GeV/c. We find from the observed nuclear dependance of the cross sections, that about 18% of theJ/ψ are produced diffractively. Using known structure functions of the quarks in the nucleon and in the pion, we derive estimations for the gluon structure functions.

Antinucleon-nucleus annihilations into two-body final states containing only one or no meson are unusual annihilations (Pontecorvo reactions), practically unexplored experimentally, with the exception of the channel p d → π − p , for which only two low-statistics measurements exist. Their physical interest lies in the possibility of exploring small-distance nuclear dynamics, in which an important role can be played by non-nucleonic degrees of freedom. A new measurement of the p d → π − p reaction rate at rest, performed with the OBELIX spectrometer at LEAR, with the best statistics up to now and a careful evaluation of systematic effects is reported, together with a critical analysis of the existing theoretical models. The measured branching ratio, which confirms the previous results, can represent a reference point for the studies in the field.

Highly inelastic processes in hadron-nucleus reactions at several GeV have been studied by measuring multi-particle emission in the target-rapidity region. Events with no leading particle(s) but with high multiplicities were observed up to 4 GeV. Proton spectra from such events were well reproduced with a single-moving-source model, which implied possible formation of a local source. The number of nucleons involved in the source was estimated to be (3–5)A 1 3 from the source velocity and the multiplicity of emitted protons. In those processes the incident energy flux seemed to be deposited totally or mostly (>62;75%) in the target nucleus to form the local source. The cross sections for the process were about 30% of the geometrical cross sections, with little dependence on incident energies up to 4 GeV and no dependence on projectiles (pions or protons). The E 0 parameter in the invariant-cross-section formula E d 3 σ /d p 3 = A exp (− E / E 0 ) for protons from the source increases with incident energy from 1 to 4 GeV/ c , but seems to saturate above 10 GeV at a value E 0 = 60–70 MeV. Three components in the emitted nucleon spectra were observed which would correspond to three stages of the reaction process: primary, pre-equilibrium and equilibrium.
