The properties of events having the topology and kinematic features of double Pomeron exchange are described. The data were taken at the CERN pp¯ collider at s=0.63 TeV in the UA1 detector. A calorimeter trigger was used to isolate events in which a central cluster of particles was separated from forward particles by large rapidity gaps. The invariant mass M of the central cluster (possibly a colliding Pomeron-Pomeron system) covers the range 10-70 GeV/c2. The M dependence of charged particle multiplicity distributions in these double Pomeron events is strikingly different from their s dependence in pp and pp¯ interactions.

Sigma- nucleus interactions in emulsion at 350-GeV

Phys.Rev.D 47 (1993) 784-790, 1993.
Inspire Record 33307 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.22740

Experimental data on multiplicities and angular distributions of heavy ionizing and shower particles in inelastic interactions of 350 GeV Σ− hyperons in nuclear emulsion are presented. The data are compared with the results of other experiments on proton and pion interactions in emulsion at energies of 60-800 GeV. We observe no significant differences in the global characteristics of strange hyperon interactions relative to nonstrange baryon interactions at equivalent energies, other than those attributable to the differing cross sections.

The Dijet angular distribution in p anti-p collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.8-TeV

The dijet angular distribution is measured in the Collider Detector at Fermilab. This measurement covers higher mass ranges and larger scattering angles than previously possible. Good agreement is observed between the data and both leading-order [O(αs2)] and next-to-leading order [O(αs3)] QCD calculations. A limit on quark compositeness of Λc>1.0 TeV is obtained.

Particle production in interactions of 200-GeV/nucleon oxygen and sulfur nuclei in nuclear emulsion

Oxygen and sulfur nuclei with energies of 200 GeV/nucleon have been allowed to interact in nuclear emulsions exposed at CERN. These emulsions have been scanned with a minimum bias so that essentially all the interactions occurring were detected. Nearly 1000 interactions of each projectile have been analyzed. We present results on the multiplicity distributions, the pseudorapidity distributions, and the fragmentation of the projectile and target nuclei. It is shown that the mean number of intranuclear collisions in each interaction, calculated from a superposition model, provides a useful parameter for organizing the data. We conclude that there are no significant deviations even at these energies from models, such as the venus model, describing the interactions as being the superposition of individual nucleon-nucleon collisions.

Pseudorapidity Distributions of Charged Particles Produced in anti-p p Interactions at s**(1/2) = 630-GeV and 1800-GeV

We present measurements of the pseudorapidity (η) distribution of charged particles (dNchdη) produced within |η|≤3.5 in proton-antiproton collisions at s of 630 and 1800 GeV. We measure dNchdη at η=0 to be 3.18±0.06(stat)±0.10(syst) at 630 GeV, and 3.95±0.03 (stat)±0.13(syst) at 1800 GeV. Many systematic errors in the ratio of dNchdη at the two energies cancel, and we measure 1.26±0.01±0.04 for the ratio of dNchdη at 1800 GeV to that at 630 GeV within |η|≤3. Comparing to lower-energy data, we observe an increase faster than ln(s) in dNchdη at η=0.

Charged Particle Multiplicity Distributions in Oxygen - Nucleus Collisions at 60-{GeV} and 200-{GeV} Per Nucleon

The HELIOS collaboration Akesson, T. ; Almehed, S. ; Angelis, A.L.S. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 333 (1990) 48-65, 1990.
Inspire Record 281287 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33112

Multiplicity distributions of charged particles produced in the pseudorapidity range 0.9 < η lab < 5.5 were measured in oxygen-nucleus collisions for Al, Ag, and W target nuclei at incident energies of 60 and 200 GeV per nucleon. The multiplicity differential cross sections and the pseudorapidity distributions as a function of transverse energy are presented for the various target nuclei. The correlation between charged multiplicity and transverse energy is studied as a function of transverse energy. Data are compared with predictions of the IRIS and FRITIOF generators.

Results on charged particle production in pp̄ collision at s 1 2 = 540 GeV are presented. The data were obtained at the CERN pp̄ collider using the UA1 detector, operated without magnetic field. The central particle density is 3.3 + - 0.2 per unit o pseudo-rapidity for non-diffractive events. KNO scaling of the multiplicity distributions withresults from ISR energies is observed.
