We present stdies of events triggered on two high-pT jets, produced inpp collisions at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR) at\(\sqrt s \)=63 GeV, using a large solid angle calorimeter. The cross-section for producing two jets is measured in the dijet mass range 17–50 GeV/c2. A high-statistics sample of dijet events, where each jet has transverse energy above 10 GeV, is used to study the structure of jets and the associated event. We find the longitudinal fragmentation function to be similar to that of jets emerging frome+e− collisions but considerably harder than that observed at the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS)\(p\bar p\) Collider. A steepening of the fragmentation function is observed when increasing the jet energy. Studies of the charge distribution in jets show that these predominantly originate from fragmenting valence quarks. The transverse energy and particle flows are presented as functions of the azimuthal distance from the jet axis.

Phys.Lett.B 172 (1986) 461-466, 1986.
Inspire Record 228112 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30262

The inclusive jet cross section has been measured in the UA1 experiment at the CERN p p Collider at centre-of-mass energies √ s = 546 GeV and √ s = 630 eV. The cross sections are found to be consistent with QCD predictions, The observed change in the cross section with the centre-of-mass energy √ s is accounted for in terms of x T scaling.

The first data on the production of D ∗ (2010) are presented as observed in π − -proton interactions at √ s = 27 GeV . It is found that D ∗ (2010) dominates the total charm D-meson production, without a significant non-central component.

High-energy Photoproduction of Large Transverse Momentum $\pi^0$ Mesons: A Quantitative Test of {QCD}

The NA14 collaboration Auge, E. ; Barate, R. ; Bloch, D. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 168 (1986) 163-169, 1986.
Inspire Record 227057 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30278

The first results on inclusive photoproduction of π 0 at transverse momenta up to 4 GeV/ c , using incident γ energies between 50 and 150 GeV are presented. A comparison is made with inclusive π 0 production obtained, in the same experiment, with incident π − . Using the π − data to parametrize the hadronic behaviour of the photon, significant differences are observed in quantitative agreement with QCD Compton scattering and corrections thereof.

Search for high mass narrow resonances in virtual photon photon interactions

The TPC / TWO GAMMA collaboration Aihara, H. ; Alston-Garnjost, M. ; Avery, R.E. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 57 (1986) 3245-3248, 1986.
Inspire Record 239032 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20201

We report on the first search with virtual photon-photon collisions for narrow, neutral resonances with even C parity in the mass range 4.5<W<19 GeV. The data were obtained via the process e+e−→e+e−γ*γ*→e e−+R with both the scattered e+ and e− detected. We find upper limits (95% confidence level) for the partial decay width of a resonance into two photons, ranging from 50 keV at W=4.5 GeV to 10 MeV at W=19 GeV. These limits constrain theoretical models involving neutral composite bosons.

Polarization of $\Lambda^\prime$s and $\bar{\Lambda}$-primes in $P P$, $\bar{P} P$, and $K^- P$ Interactions at 176-{GeV}/c

We have measured the polarization of Λ's in inclusive pp and K−p reactions and of Λ¯'s in p¯p interactions at a beam momentum of 176 GeV/c. Data were taken in the beam-fragmentation region with hyperon transverse momenta from 0.2 to 1.5 GeV/c. The P¯ produced Λ¯'s have the same magnitude and sign of polarization as the p-produced Λ's, whereas the Λ's from K−p interactions are more highly polarized and in the opposite direction.

A Comparison of the Energy Distributions of Hadrons Produced in Deep Inelastic Scattering of Muons on Hydrogen and Deuterium Targets

The European Muon collaboration Aubert, J.J. ; Bassompierre, G. ; Becks, K.H. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 31 (1986) 175, 1986.
Inspire Record 227131 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.1817

The energy distribution of inclusive hadrons produced by 280 GeV muons on hydrogen and deuterium targets are compared. The sum of the scaled energy distributions of the positive and negative hadrons is found to be the same for the two targets. The difference of these distributions is observed to factorise inx andz and thez-dependence is found to be independent of the target type and have a form (1−z)2.1±0.2. The net charge of the hadronic jet is positive at highx even in the case when the scattering takes place on the neutron. These results are in good agreement with the expectations of the Quark Parton Model.

A Measurement of the Direct Photon Spectrum From the $\Upsilon$ (1s)

We have observed decays of the ϒ(1S) into hadronic final states containing high-energy photons. These are interpreted as coming from the decay ϒ(1S)→γ+gluon+gluon. We compare the shape of the observed photon energy spectrum with several theoretical predictions and deduce the value of the strong-coupling constant αs and the QCD scale parameter ΛMS― (MS― denotes the modified minimal-subtraction scheme) associated with each prediction.

Direct Photon Production From Pions and Protons at 200-{GeV}/$c$

The NA3 collaboration Badier, J. ; Bardadin-Otwinowska, M. ; Bemporad, C. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 31 (1986) 341, 1986.
Inspire Record 219999 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15881

Direct photon production has been studied by an experiment performed with the NA3 spectrometer at CERN, using incident negative and positive beams at 200 GeV/c interacting with an isoscalar Carbon target. Two different triggers have been used; one of them requires the photon conversion. The experiment is sensitive to direct photons produced with 3.0≦PT≦6 GeV/c and center-of-mass rapidity −0.4≦y*≦1.2. Inclusive cross sections are given for incident π± and protons, and compared with second order QCD predictions; finally an estimation of the gluon structure function of the nucleon is given.
