Inclusive charged pion production in hadron nucleus interactions at 100-GeV/c and 320-GeV/c

Inspire Record 378192 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.14207

An experiment has been performed with the Fermilab 30-inch bubble chamber and Downstream Particle Identifier to study inclusive charged pion production in the high energy interactions of π±,K+,p and\(\bar p\) with thin foils of magnesium, silver and gold. The laboratory rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are presented separately for π+ and π− production. Comparisons are made with data from hadron-proton interactions and theA dependence of the cross sections in the different kinematic regions is discussed. We investigate the dependence of the cross sections on the number of observed protons ejected from the nucleus. By using our π−A data from two different beam energies, we study the energy dependence of these spectra. Comparisons are made with the VENUS string model Monte Carlo.

Measurement of the photon structure function F2 (gamma) in the reaction e+ e- ---> e+ e- + hadrons at LEP

Z.Phys.C 61 (1994) 199-208, 1994.
Inspire Record 358863 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.48474

We present measurements of the hadronic photon structure functionF2γ(x), in twoQ2 ranges with mean values of 5.9 GeV2 and 14.7 GeV2. The data were taken by the OPAL experiment at LEP, with\(\sqrt s\) close to theZ0 mass and correspond to an integratede+e− luminosity of 44.8 pb−1. In the context of a QCD-based model we find the quark transverse momentum cutoff separating the vector meson dominance (VMD) and perturbative QCD regions to be 0.27±0.10 GeV. We confirm that there is a significant pointlike component of the photon when the probe photon hasQ2>4 GeV2. Our measurements extend to lower values ofx than any previous experiment, and no increase ofF2γ(x) is observed.

A Measurement of alpha-s from jet rates at the Z0 resonance

The SLD collaboration Abe, K. ; Abt, I. ; Acton, P.D. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 71 (1993) 2528-2532, 1993.
Inspire Record 356912 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19724

We have determined the strong coupling αs from measurements of jet rates in hadronic decays of Z0 bosons collected by the SLD experiment at SLAC. Using six collinear and infrared safe jet algorithms we compared our data with the predictions of QCD calculated up to second order in perturbation theory, and also with resummed calculations. We find αs(MZ2)=0.118±0.002(stat)±0.003(syst)±0.010(theory), where the dominant uncertainty is from uncalculated higher order contributions.

Mass and transverse momentum dependence of dielectron production in p + d and p + p collisions at 4.9-GeV

Phys.Rev.C 49 (1994) 314-319, 1994.
Inspire Record 356615 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.38156

Dielectron production in p+d and p+p collisions at the beam kinetic energy of 4.9 GeV has been measured with the Dilepton Spectrometer. Features of the dielectron cross section have been studied with cuts on the mass and transverse momentum of the pairs. The spectra for several regions of phase space are presented as a function of the pair mass and transverse momentum.

Search for narrow vector resonances in the Z mass range

The L3 collaboration Adriani, O. ; Aguilar-Benitez, M. ; Ahlen, S.P. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 313 (1993) 326-332, 1993.
Inspire Record 355488 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28856

The hadronic lineshape of the Z has been analyzed for evidence of signals of new, narrow vector resonances in the Z-mass range. The production rate of such resonances would be enhanced due to mixing with the Z. No evidence for new states is found, and it is thus possible to exclude, at the 95% confidence level, a quarkonium state in the mass range from 87.7 to 94.7 GeV.

Search for a Z-prime at the Z resonance

The search for an additional heavy gauge boson Z′ is described. The models considered are based on either a superstring-motivated E 6 or on a left-right symmetry and assume a minimal Higgs sector. Cross sections and asymmetries measured with the L3 detector in the vicinity of the Z resonance during the 1990 and 1991 running periods are used to determine limits on the Z-Z′ gauge boson mixing angle and on the Z′ mass. For Z′ masses above the direct limits, we obtain the following allowed ranges of the mixing angle, θ M at the 95% confidence level: −0.004 ⪕ θ M ⪕ 0.015 for the χ model, −0.003 ⪕ θ M ⪕ 0.020 for the ψ model, −0.029 ⪕ θ M ⪕ 0.010 for the η model, −0.002 ⪕ θ M ⪕ 0.020 for the LR model,
