Analyzing a sample of 220 000 events from an experiment still in progress at the CERN Proton Synchrotron (PS), 60 pairs of electrons with an energy above 700 MeV have been observed. The electrons, produced by annihilation of antiprotons stopped in a liquid-hydrogen target, are detected with optical spark chambers and scintillation counters. Twenty-nine out of these 60 pairs have been found to be collinear; normalizing with respect to the hadronic two-body channels π + π − and K + K − , a braching ratio B ee =Γ( p ̄ p → e + e − )/Γ( p ̄ p → total ) = (3.2 ± 0.9) × 10 −7 has been obtained

The reactions π−p→ n+(X0→total) and π−p→ n+(X0→neutrals) have been studied at 1.6 GeV/c with the Bologna-CERN neutron missing-mass spectrometer. Both reactions have been detected without the use of visual techniques. The results are: σ(X0→total)=(108±14) μb and σ(X0→neutrals)=(20.0±3.5) μb, giving a branching ratio Γ(X0→neutrals)/Γ(X0→total)=(18.5±2.2)%. The branching ratio for other possible, so far undetected, neutral decay modes of the X0 turns out to be (2.4±1.9)%.

ANNIHILATION INTO CHARGED PION OR KAON PAIRS. THE SEPARATE CROSS SECTIONS FOR PIONS AND KAONS ARE CALCULATED ASSUMING SIG(K+K-)/SIG(PI+PI-) IS 0.33 +- 0.05 FROM INTERPOLATION OF OTHER EXPERIMENTS.
41 ± 8 events of the type X 0 → γγ have been observed in a study of the reaction π − p → n(X 0 → γγ ) at 1.6 GeV/ c incident π -momentum. This provides further evidence to our previous observation of this new X 0 decay mode and allows the determination of the branching ratio Γ(X 0 →γγ) Γ(X 0 → total =(1.7 ± 0.4)%. The theoretical implications of this result are discussed.
THIS MEASUREMENT WHEN COMBINED WITH THE ETAPRIME PRODUCTION CROSS SECTION OF M. BASILE ET AL., NC 3A, 371 (1971) YIELDS A BR(ETAPRIME --> 2GAMMA) OF 1.7 +- 0.4 PCT.
Cross sections and decay distribution moments are presented for the reaction p p → Δ ++ Δ ++ at 3.6 GeV/ c , and compared with previously published data at 9.1 and 12 GeV/ c . With the aid of the quark model, we have isolated the natural and unnatural parity exchange contributions and shown them to accord with expectations based on simple Regge-pole exchanges.
DOUBLE RESONANCE PRODUCTION IS 62 +- 2 PCT OF CHANNEL.
We present STAR measurements of the azimuthal anisotropy parameter $v_2$ and the binary-collision scaled centrality ratio $R_{CP}$ for kaons and lambdas ($\Lambda+\bar{\Lambda}$) at mid-rapidity in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV. In combination, the $v_2$ and $R_{CP}$ particle-type dependencies contradict expectations from partonic energy loss followed by standard fragmentation in vacuum. We establish $p_T \approx 5$ GeV/c as the value where the centrality dependent baryon enhancement ends. The $K_S^0$ and $\Lambda+\bar{\Lambda}$ $v_2$ values are consistent with expectations of constituent-quark-number scaling from models of hadron fromation by parton coalescence or recombination.
Inclusive ϱ 0 meson production has been measured in 120 GeV and 280 GeV muon-proton interactions. Distributions of z and p T 2 are presented. Primary ϱ 0 production is found to be equal to that of π 0 production within errors.

Based on a sample of 22 four-prong D 0 / D 0 decays produced in hydrogen by 360 GeV/ c π − , we present the following new results: mean lifetime τ = (3.5 −0.9 +1.4 ) x 10 −13 s ; production cross section for x F > 0.0, σ = (10.3 ± 3.5) ωb ; the D → K ± π ± π + π − branching ratio = (7.1 ± 2.5)%.

Charged-particle spectra associated with direct photon ($\gamma_{dir} $) and $\pi^0$ are measured in $p$+$p$ and Au+Au collisions at center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV with the STAR detector at RHIC. A hower-shape analysis is used to partially discriminate between $\gamma_{dir}$ and $\pi^0$. Assuming no associated charged particles in the $\gamma_{dir}$ direction (near side) and small contribution from fragmentation photons ($\gamma_{frag}$), the associated charged-particle yields opposite to $\gamma_{dir}$ (away side) are extracted. At mid-rapidity ($|\eta|<0.9$) in central Au+Au collisions, charged-particle yields associated with $\gamma_{dir}$ and $\pi^0$ at high transverse momentum ($8< p_{T}^{trig}<16$ GeV/$c$) are suppressed by a factor of 3-5 compared with $p$ + $p$ collisions. The observed suppression of the associated charged particles, in the kinematic range $|\eta|<1$ and $3< p_{T}^{assoc} < 16$ GeV/$c$, is similar for $\gamma_{dir}$ and $\pi^0$, and independent of the $\gamma_{dir}$ energy within uncertainties. These measurements indicate that the parton energy loss, in the covered kinematic range, is insensitive to the parton path length.

A significant rate of forward proton and antiproton production has been observed in 120 and 280 GeV muon-proton scattering. The z and p T 2 distributions are presented. The dependence of the normalized production cross section on the muon variables x and Q 2 is studied.
