We have observed Σc++ and Σc0 baryons in nonresonant e+e− interactions through their decays to Λc+π± using the CLEO detector. The mass difference M(Σc++)-M(Λc+) is measured to be 167.8±0.4±0.3 MeV; for M(Σc0)-M(Λc+) we find 167.9±0.5±0.3 MeV. Σc decay accounts for (18±3±5)% of Λc+ production.
The cross section ratio is multiplied by a factor of 1.5 to account for theunobserved SIGMA/C(2455)+.

We have measured the inclusive branching ratio for B→ψX to be (1.09±0.16±0.21)%, and the exclusive branching ratios for B−→ψK− and B¯ ¯0 *0 to be (0.09±0.05)% and (0.41±0.18)%, respectively. The mass difference between neutral and charged B mesons is 1.1±2.1 MeV, while the difference between the mass of Υ(4S) and twice the mean B-meson mass is 18.5±3.0 MeV. The ψ momentum distribution implies a substantial two-body decay (in agreement with direct measurements), but also some combination of B→ψX with MX>1.5 GeV, and B→ψ’X.

We have used the CLEO II detector to study the multiplicity of charged particles in the decays of B mesons produced at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance. Using a sample of 1.5 x 10^6 B meson pairs, we find the mean inclusive charged particle multiplicity to be 10.71 +- 0.02 +0.21/-0.15 for the decay of the pair. This corresponds to a mean multiplicity of 5.36 +- 0.01 +0.11/-0.08 for a single B meson. Using the same data sample, we have also extracted the mean multiplicities in semileptonic and nonleptonic decays. We measure a mean of 7.82 +- 0.05 +0.21/-0.19 charged particles per $B\bar{B}$ decay when both mesons decay semileptonically. When neither B meson decays semileptonically, we measure a mean charged particle multiplicity of 11.62 +- 0.04 +0.24/-0.18 per $B\bar{B}$ pair.

We report results on the differential and total cross sections for inclusive production of the charmed particles D*+, D*0, D0, D+, Ds, and Λc in e+e− annihilations at √s=10.55 GeV. Widely used quark fragmentation models are discussed and compared with the measured charmed-particle momentum distributions. This comparison, as well as that with measurements at other center-of-mass energies, shows the need to take QCD corrections into account and their importance for a correct interpretation of the model parameters. The observed rate of D0 and D+ production is compared to the expected total charm production cross section. We measure the probability of a charmed meson being produced as a vector meson and the D*+ decay branching fraction into D0π+.

A measurement of the spin alignment of charged D^* mesons produced in continuum e^+ e^- \to c \bar{c} events at \sqrt{s}=10.5 GeV is presented. This study using 4.72 fb^{-1} of CLEO II data shows that there is little evidence of any D^* spin alignment.

Using data recorded by the CLEO II detector at CESR, we report evidence for two new charmed baryons, one decaying into $\Xi_c^+\pi^+\pi^-$ via an intermediate $\Xi_c^{*0}$, and its isospin partner decaying into $\Xi_c^0\pi^+\pi^-$ via an intermediate $\Xi_c^{*+}$. We measure the mass differences of the two states to be $M(\Xi_c^+\pi^+\pi^-)-M(\Xi_c^+)=$ $348.6\pm0.6\pm1.0$ MeV, and $M(\Xi_c^0\pi^+\pi^-)-M(\Xi_c^0)=$ $347.2\pm0.7\pm2.0$ MeV. We interpret these new states as the $J^P = {3 \over{2}}^- $ $\Xi_{c1}$ particles, the charmed-strange analogues of the $\Lambda_{c1}^+(2625)$.
CONST(NAME=EPS) is the parameter of the Peterson fragmentation function (C.Peterson et al., PR D27, 105 (1983)) D(N)/D(Z) = FD(Z) = const * (1/Z)*1/(1 - ( 1/Z)-CONST(NAME=EPS)/(1-Z))**2. The data for all baryons are combined together.
Using data collected in the region of the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the CLEO II detector operating at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring CESR, we present the first observation of B mesons decaying into the charmed strange baryons Xi_c0 and Xi_c+. We find 79 +/- 27 Xi_c0 and 125 +/- 28 Xi_c+ candidates from B decays, leading to product branching fractions of BR(Bbar -> Xi_c0 X)BR(Xi_c0 -> Xi- pi+) = (0.144 +/- 0.048 +/- 0.021) x 10~-3 and BR(Bbar -> Xi_c+ X)BR(Xi_c+ -> Xi- pi+ pi+) = (0.453 +/- 0.096 +0.085-0.065) x 10~-3.

Using data recorded with the CLEO II and CLEO II.V detector configurations at the Cornell Electron Storage Rings, we report the first observation and mass measurement of the $\Sigma_c^{*+}$ charmed baryon, and an updated measurement of the mass of the $\Sigma_c^+$ baryon. We find $M(\Sigma_c^{*+})-M(\Lambda_c^+)$= 231.0 +- 1.1 +- 2.0 MeV, and $M(\Sigma_c^{+})-M(\Lambda_c^+)$= 166.4 +- 0.2 +- 0.3 MeV, where the errors are statistical and systematic respectively.

We report results on inclusive production of the charmed baryon Λc+ from e+e− annihilations at s=10.5 GeV. Measurements are presented of the inclusive cross section times branching fraction for the continuum production of Λc+ as observed in six different decay modes, and of a new, improved value of the Λc+ mass. The inclusive cross section times the branching fraction into pK−π+ is measured to be 10.0±1.5±1.5 pb summed over all xp. The branching fractions of Λc+ into pK¯0, pK¯0π+π−, Λπ+, Λπ+π−π+, and Ξ−K+π+ relative to that into pK−π+ are measured to be 0.44±0.07±0.05, 0.43±0.12±0.04, 0.18±0.03±0.03, 0.65±0.11±0.12, and 0.15±0.04±0.03, respectively. The Λc+ mass is measured to be 2284.7±0.6±0.7 MeV/c2. The measured momentum distributions for continuum production of Λc+ are compared to analytical fragmentation functions and to other measurements.

We report results from two new methods for measuring the total production of charmed particles in nonresonant e+e− annihilations at √s =10.5 GeV. The rate for detection of events containing two reconstructed charmed mesons relative to that for events containing one is used to extract information about total charm production independent of decay branching fractions. The value of ΔRcc¯, the total charm-pair cross section normalized to the pointlike μ-pair cross section, is found to be 1.13−0.13+0.17±0.09, under an assumption of limited particle correlations. In an independent analysis the inclusive cross section for e+e−→qq¯→e±X is measured to be 0.293±0.017±0.017 nb. Using measured relative production rates and semileptonic branching fractions of D0 and D+ mesons and estimates of these quantities for Ds and Λc, this is found to correspond to ΔRcc¯=2.07±0.12±0.26. These two measurements are discussed in the context of measurements made by reconstruction of exclusive hadronic decay modes and of theoretical expectations.
