The scale cross section s d σ d x p for inclusive charged-particle production in e + e − annihilation has been studied for c.m. energies W between 12.0 and 36.7 GeV. Scale breaking is observed. For x p >0.2 the cross section decreases by ≈20% when W increases from 14 to 35 GeV. The production angular distribution was used to separate the longitudinal and transverse cross-section contributions and to determine the ratio of the structure functions m W 1 and v W 2 .

Observation of Four - Jet Structure in $e^+ e^-$ Annihilation at $\sqrt{s}=33$-{GeV}

Inspire Record 177210 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30889

Topological distributions of hadrons from the reaction e + e − → hadrons are studied at center of mass energies of about 33 GeV. The experimental distributions in the parameters acoplanarity and tripodity, both sensitive to events with a four-jet structure, show significant deviations from the expectations for two- and three-jet events. They can be described well by the inclusion of four-jet events. The relative magnitude of the observed effect indicates second order QCD as its probable origin.

An Analysis of the Charged and Neutral Energy Flow in $e^+ e^-$ Hadronic Annihilation at 34-{GeV}, and a Determination of the {QCD} Effective Coupling Constant

The CELLO collaboration Behrend, H.J. ; Chen, C. ; Fenner, H. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 113 (1982) 427-432, 1982.
Inspire Record 177228 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30921

Using both charged and neutral components, 2600 multihadronic e + e − annihilation events, recorded at 34 GeV by the CELLO detector at PETRA, have been analysed in a calometric approach. The fraction of energy carried by gamma rays is measured to be f γ = (26.0 ± 0.4 (stat) ± 4.0 (syst)%. The neutral energy flow is seen to follow closely the overall energy flow. From the corrected oblateness distribution, a first order determination of α s is performed. The result is α s = 0.16 ± 0.01 (stat) ± 0.03 (syst).

A Study of Two Photon Production of Two-body Final States With Invariant Mass Greater Than 2.0-{GeV}

We have measured the electron, muon, and charged-hadron pair production rates in two-phonon interactions for invariant masses above 2.0 GeV over a large of momentum transfer. The cross sections for electron and muon pairs show good agreement with the QED predictions at both small and large momentum transfer. The observed rate of hadron production is less than 6% of the rate that QED predicts for point-like hadrons, consistent with recent leading-order QCD calculations.

The reaction e + e - → e + e - η' has been observed in the JADE experiment at PETRA, by detecting the final state π + π - γ, resulting from the decay η' → γϱ 0 . The cross section was measured at an average beam energy of 17.15 GeV to be σ(e + e - → e + e - η') = 2.2 ± 0.2 (stat.) ± 0.4(syst.) nb, yielding the radiative width Γ η'γγ = 5.0 ± 0.5(stat.) ± 0.9 (syst.) keV.

Transverse Momentum Distributions of Hadrons Produced in $\alpha \alpha$ and $\alpha p$ Collisions at the {CERN} Intersecting Storage Rings

Phys.Lett.B 112 (1982) 271-276, 1982.
Inspire Record 176957 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30920

The inclusive production of charged hadrons has been measured in αα and αp collisions at nucleon-nucleon c.m. energies (√s nn )of 31 and 44 GeV, respectively, for transverse momenta p T up to 5 GeV/ c in the central rapidity ( y ) region. at high p T the yields are consistent with being 4 times and 16 times highere than the ones in pp interactions at y =0, for αp and αα interactions, respectively. However, an enhancement over these factors, as expected from an earlier FNAL experiment, cannot be ruled out.

Measurement of Polarized Target Asymmetry in $\gamma d \to p n$ in the Photon Energy Region Between 0.3-{GeV} and 0.7-{GeV}

Ohashi, Y. ; Awaji, N. ; Hayashii, H. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 110 (1982) 441-444, 1982.
Inspire Record 176585 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30974

The target asymmetry in γ d → pn has been measured at proton c.m. angles of 70°, 100° and 130° in the photon energies between 0.3 and 0.7 GeV. Results show relatively small asymmetry values in contrast to large proton polarizations. A phenomenological analysis by Ikeda et al. does not reproduce the present data, especially in the lower energy region.

Charged Pion Production in $e^+ e^-$ Annihilation at 14-{GeV}, 22-{GeV} and 34-{GeV} Center-of-mass Energy

The TASSO collaboration Brandelik, R. ; Braunschweig, W. ; Gather, K. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 113 (1982) 98-104, 1982.
Inspire Record 176886 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30892

The inclusive production of π ± mesons in e + e − annihilation has been measured at c.m. energies of 14, 22 and 34 GeV for pion momenta between 0.3 ans 10 GeV/ c . The fraction of pions among the charged hadrons is above 90% at 0.4 GeV/ c and decreases to about 50% at high momenta. The scaled cross sections ( s β ) d σ d x at 14, 22 and 34 GeV as well as the 5.2 GeV data from DASP have a rather similar x dependence. After integration over the x range from 0.2 to 0.6 the cross sections indicate a monotonic decrease with increasing centre-of-mass energy.

A Measurement of Sigma(tot) (e+ e- ---> Hadrons) for CM Energies Between 12.0-GeV and 36.7-GeV

Phys.Lett.B 113 (1982) 499-508, 1982.
Inspire Record 176887 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.6666

The ration R = σ (e + e − → hadrons) σ μμ was measured between 12.0 and 36.7 GeV c.m. energy W with a precision of typically ± 5.2%. R is found to be constant with an average R = 4.01 ± 0.03 (stat) ± (syst.) for W ⩾ 14 GeV. Quarks are found to be point-like, the mass parameter describing a possible quark form-factor being larger than 186 GeV. Fits including QCD corrections and a weak neutral-current contribution are presented.

Results from a high-statistics experiment involving an exposure of the SLAC 82-in. hydrogen bubble chamber to a beam of 8-GeV/c π− yielding a final state of π−π+π−p are presented. Copious production of ρ, Δ++, and f is found. Considerable quasi-two-body production in which one particle decays to one of the above resonances is also observed. Some double-resonance production involving baryon and meson resonances is also seen. The production properties of ρ, Δ++, and f mesons are well described by a double-Regge model.
