Single π + production on protons by linearly polarized photons of 2.5 to 5 GeV was measured at squared four momentum transfers t between −0.01 and −0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The results show that the differential cross section d σ ⊥ d t with the electric vector of the photon perpendicular to the reaction plane is much larger than d σ ‖ d t with the electric vector parallel to the reaction plane. The predictions of Regge models and of the vector meson dominance model are briefly discussed.

We present complete results concerning the five reactions K − p → Λω , K − p → Λφ , K − p → Σ 0 ϱ and K − p → Σ 0 φ . The experimental data are well described by exchange mechanisms and the agreement with the SU(3) symmetry predictions is excellent.
FORWARD AND BACKWARD CROSS SECTIONS ARE FOR COS(THETA) > AND < 0. SLOPE DETERMINED FOR -TP = 0.2 TO 1.0.

The target asymmetry T = ( σ ↑ − σ ↓)/( σ ↑ + σ ↓) for the reaction γ p → π + n has been measured at the Bonn 2.5 GeV electron synchrotron for a pion c.m. angle of 40° and γ energies between 0.5 and 2.2 GeV. Butanol was used as the target material. About 35% of the protons could be polarized using the dynamic-polarization method in a continuous-flow cryostat operating at 1°K and 25 kG. The π + mesons were detected in a magnetic-spectrometer system. Considerable structure in the asymmetry was observed.

Proton polarization in γd→pn has been measured at c.m. angle around 90° and photon energies from 325 to 725 MeV. The polarization increases sharply with the photon energy, reaching a high maximum of (-80±8)% around 500-550 MeV. Such a high polarization with a sharp energy dependence seems to indicate a new effect in the dibaryon system.

The proton polarization in the γ d → pn reaction has been measured at a c.m. angle of 90° and photon energies between 350 and 700 MeV, using a carbon polarimeter. The magnitude of the polarization shows a sharp energy dependence with a peak of about −80% at around 500–550 MeV. This feature cannot be explained by conventional models and seems to indicate a new mechanism in the dibaryon system.

Differential cross sections and polarization asymmetries for the reaction p + p → d + π + have been measured at 0.8 GeV. The data has been analyzed within the formalism of Mandl and Regge and the results are compared with the recent coupled channel calculations of Niskanen. It is concluded that at this energy the production of upto f-wave pions is important.

We have measured the differential cross-section and the analyzing power (polarization) for p-He4 elastic scattering at incident kinetic energies of 0.56, 0.80, 1.03, 1.24, and 1.73 GeV. The experiment used a polarized proton beam incident on a liquid helium target and a single arm magnetic spectrometer to detect elastic scattering. Both the differential cross sections and the analyzing power show structure near −t=0.25 (GeV/c)2 which decreases in magnitude with increasing energy. Both multiple scattering and optical model interpretations of the data are discussed. The polarization for the\(\bar pp\) elastic scattering was measured as a function of the centre-of-mass angle of scattering between 17° and 90° at the average incident momentum of 0.7 GeV/c by using doublescattering events in a bubble chamber. The average value of the polarization was found to be 0.23 ± 0.05. The angular dependence of the polarization obtained in this experiment was interpreted by the strong absorptive potential model for\(\bar {\mathcal{N}}{\mathcal{N}}\) interactions recently proposed.
SIGN OF POLARIZATION TAKEN AS POSITIVE ACCORDING TO THE DATA OF ALBROW ET AL., NP B37, 349 (1972).
