The polarization of the recoil proton from the reactionγp→π0p has been measured for photon energies between 900–1,350 MeV and pion c.m. angles between 70° and 150°. There are significant deviations from recent analysis.

Inclusive Delta++ Production in K+ p Interactions at 8.2-GeV/c and 16-GeV/c

The reaction K + p→ Δ ++ (1236)+ anything is studied at beam momenta 8.2 and 16 GeV/ c and compared with other Δ ++ producing reactions. We find that the low-mass Δ ++ π − enhancement affects the shapes of Δ ++ inclusive distributions. The triple-Regge formula is found to be consistent with the data. Dual properties of this formula are successfully tested.

Inclusive Photoproduction of Charged Particles in the Forward Hemisphere

We report measurements of the invariant cross section in the forward hemisphere for inclusive photoproduction of π±, K±, p, and p¯ from hydrogen and deuterium with an incident photon energy of 18 GeV. A small amount of data was also taken at incident energies of 9 and 13 GeV. The measurements were made using the SLAC 20-GeV/c spectrometer, and a bremsstrahlung-subtraction technique was used to obtain the cross sections at the specified incident energy. The data are compared with those from lower-energy experiments and interpreted within the context of the Mueller-Regge model and the constituent-interchange model.

We have measured the spin-spin correlation parameter CNN at 2, 3, 4, and 6 GeV/c over the |t| range of 0.1 to 2.0 (GeV/c)2 and have observed a striking energy and |t| dependence in CNN. Polarization data were simultaneously collected and are compared to previous results.

Lambda Polarization in the Reaction K- p --> Lambda Anything at 14.3-GeV/c

New results on inclusive lambda polarization in K − p interactions at 14.3 GeV/ c are presented. At the kaon fragmentation vertex, the polarization is compared to that from inclusive experiments at lower momenta and to that from two-body reactions with a Λ. As predicted by the triple-Regge model with N α (or N γ ) exchange, the polarization is found to be independent of s and M X 2 / s . In particular it has the same value as that found in the two-body reactions.

Inclusive Cross-Sections for 180-Degree Production of High-Energy Protons, Deuterons, and Tritons in p-Nucleus Collisions at 600-MeV and 800-MeV

The inclusive cross sections, measured up to large values of effective mass (≡q22ν), are well fitted by dσd3p=Bxexp(−αxp22mx). Values of Bx and αx are given for Be, C, Cu, and Ta at the incident proton energy of 600 MeV and for Ag, Ta, and Pt at 800 MeV. Extremely large dp and tp ratios and large A and q2 dependences of the relative cross sections are observed.

Study of the p pi- System Produced in Reaction K+ n --> K+ pi- p at 8.25-GeV/c and Comparison with Data at 4.6-GeV/c and 12-GeV/c

The fragmentation of the neutron into p π − induced by incident K + of 8.25 GeV/ c is studied using data from the CERN 2 m deuterium bubble chamber and compared with data at 4.6 and 12 GeV/ c . The p π − low-mass enhancement below 1.85 GeV is analyzed and the major part exhibits the properties expected for diffraction dissociation. The presence of resonances is discussed. The data are fairly well represented by a double Regge exchange model involving pion and pomeron exchanges. The violation of the s -channel and t -channel helicity conservation is observed and compared to the s -channel description of Humble.

Observation of High Mass mu+ mu- Pairs at the ISR

Observation of 16 μ + μ − pairs of invariant mass greater than 2.7 GeV/ c 2 in the reaction pp → μ + μ − + anything at s = 52 GeV at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR) is reported. These events can be interpreted as originating from J(3.1) decay into μ + μ − . Their p T distribution suggests a hadronic production. The cross section for J production is given and compared to the cross section for single lepton production. We conclude that J(3.1) production cannot fully account for single lepton production.
