A Study of Inclusive Xi-, Xi (1530) and $\omega^-$ Production in $K^- p$ Interactions at 8.25-{GeV}/$c$

Inclusive Ξ − production is studied in K − p interactions at 8.25 GeV/ c using about 8000 events. An analysis based on the triple-Regge model shows that the Λ α − Λ γ and Σ β − Σ δ exchanges explain the forward Ξ − production. Ξ(1530) properties are also studied and are found to be similar to those of Ξ − 's. Finally, a study of the production of Ω − based on 67 events shows that Ω's are also produced by hyperon exchange.

STUDY OF INCLUSIVE REACTIONS K- P ---> ANTI-K0 X AND K- P ---> LAMBDA0 X AT 6.5-GeV/c

Inclusive V0 production in 6.5-GeV/c K−p interactions is studied using the ANL 12-ft-diameter hydrogen bubble chamber. The total cross sections for inclusive K¯0 and Λ0 production are σ(K¯0)=7.98±0.49 mb and σ(Λ0)=3.94±0.24 mb. Semi-inclusive differential cross sections are determined as functions of Feynman x and transverse momentum squared of the V0's and of four-momentum transfer to the V0. The average charge multiplicity, the ratio 〈nc〉D, and the correlation function f2cc for the neutrally charged hadronic system recoiling from the V0 are determined as functions of the mass of the recoiling system. Results are used to examine universal aspects of multiparticle production.

GENERAL FEATURES OF CHARGED PARTICLE PRODUCTION IN ANTI-P P INTERACTIONS AT 100-GEV/C

We present new data on charged particle production in p p interactions at 100 GeV/ c . Comparisons are made between p p annihilations (estimated by differences) between corresponding p p and pp data samples) and e + e − annihilation into hadrons. A technique for separating the inclusive proton and pion spectra is described and the resulting pion spectra are studied in terms of Feynman x , rapidity and p T . Comparison with pp data allows us to estimate the pion spectra in p p annihilations and we find agreement with predictions of Mueller-Regge theory. We also present results on semi-inclusive π ± and proton production, give updated topological cross sections and describe further attempts to isolate effects due to annihilations. Finally we investigate the diffractive excitation of the antiproton into low-mass states by studying events with a slow recoil proton.

Comparison of Inclusive Charged Pion Production in pi+- p Interactions at 100-GeV/c.

Inclusive single-particle spectra for π± production are presented for data from π±p interactions at 100 GeV/c. The spectra for the four reactions π±p→π±+anything are compared as a function of laboratory longitudinal momentum, Feynman x, center-of-mass (c.m.) rapidity, and transverse momentum squared. Comparisons are also made between these data and analogous data from 16 and 18.5 GeV/c π±p interactions and the energy dependence is discussed. Average values of the transverse momentum are given as a function of the longitudinal momentum and charged-particle multiplicity. A comparison of the charge distributions is presented as a function of rapidity and c.m. energy.

Properties of Inclusive $\pi^{\pm}$ Production in 100 GeV/c Antiproton-Proton Interactions

Inclusive spectra are presented for π± production in 100-GeV/cp¯p interactions. The rapidity distribution for the difference (p¯p−pp) approximately scales as the difference in total cross sections in the fragmentation region between 12 and 100 GeV/c and exhibits an approximate s−12dependence in the central region.

Neutral Particle Production in 100 GeV/c $\bar{p}p$ Interactions

We have investigated the inclusive production of γ, KS0, Λ0, and Λ¯0 in 100-GeV/c p¯p interactions in the 30-in. hydrogen bubble chamber at Fermilab. We present various inclusive distributions and compare them with corresponding distributions in 100-GeV/c pp interactions and lower-energy p¯p interactions. We find some evidence for Σ(1385) production but none for K*(890) production. We find evidence for a nonzero Λ0 polarization of -0.45 ± 0.21.

Study of the Energy and Charged Multiplicity Dependence of Inclusive pi- Production in pi- p Interactions Up to Fermilab Energies

Using new data from 100 GeV c π − interactions, we find the energy dependence of the invariant cross-section in the target fragmentation (central) region to be consistent with an A + Bs − 1 2 (C + Ds − 1 4 ) behavior. The leading particle peak near x = + 1 exhibits a width in x which becomes smaller with increasing energy and an integrated cross section which is approximately energy independent.
