Differential cross sections and polarisations in the reaction π + p→K + Σ + have been measured using the Rutherford Multiparticle Spectrometer at NIMROD. Data are presented at 26 momentum points at approximately 50 MeV/ c intervals in the range 1.282 to 2.473 GeV/ c with an order of magnitude more events than previous experiments. Legendre polynomial expansion coefficients have also been determined.

Electroweak Coupling Constants in the Leptonic Reactions e+ e- ---> e+ e- and e+ e- ---> mu+ mu- and Search for Scalar Leptons

Phys.Lett.B 117 (1982) 365-371, 1982.
Inspire Record 178495 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.6669

A high statistics experiment was performed on Bhabha scattering at energies between 14 and 34 GeV. Good agreement with QED was observed. The combined data on Bhabha scattering and μ pair production were found to agree with the standard theory of electroweak interaction giving sin 2 θ = 0.27 −0.07 +0.06 . Assuming for the Z 0 mass a value of 90 GeV the leptonic weak coupling constants were determined to g V 2 = −0.04 ± 0.06 and g A 2 = 0.35 ± 0.09. A search for scalar leptons sets lower limits on the mass of scalar electrons of M s e > 16.6 GeV and of scalar muons of M s μ > 16.4 GeV.

PHOTOPRODUCTION OF CHARGED PIONS FROM DEUTERIUM AT GAMMA ENERGIES FROM 900-MEV TO 1800-MEV AND PION ANGLES BETWEEN 65-DEGREES AND 125-DEGREES

Z.Phys.C 16 (1982) 1-6, 1982.
Inspire Record 184969 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.16386

π−-photoproduction cross sections from neutrons have been measured with a deuterium target at effective γ-energies from 900 to 1,800 MeV and pion centre-of-mass angles 65 to 125°. The outgoing pion and proton were detected in coincidence, the pion with a magnetic spectrometer and the proton with a time-of-flight system. To test the reliability of the analysis method, a comparison of π+-photoproduction from protons and deuterons was made with a slightly modified apparatus. It was found adequate to use the spectator model with a Huthèn wave function.

We have measured, at an average centre-of-mass energy of 34.22 GeV a forward-backward charge asymmetry in the reaction e + e − → μ + μ − of value −0.161 ± 0.032. This demonstrates the existence of an axial vector neutral current with coupling strength of g e a g μ a =0.53 ± 0.10. We have also obtained a limit on the vector coupling strength of g e v g μ v <0.12. The Weinberg angle is found to be sin 2 θ W =0.29 +0.09 −0.11 . From the reaction e + e − → τ + τ − we have found g e a g τ a <0.34, g e v g τ v <0.55.

DIFFERENTIAL CROSS-SECTIONS FOR RADIATIVE CAPTURE OF PIONS ON HYDROGEN IN THE DELTA (1232) REGION: A TEST OF THE ISOSPIN STRUCTURE AND T SYMMETRY OF HADRONIC ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERACTIONS

Tran, M.T. ; Guex, L.H. ; Alder, J.C. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.A 324 (1979) 301-334, 1979.
Inspire Record 147550 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.37080

Radiation capture of π − on hydrogen has been measured in the momentum range from p π − = 210 MeV/ c to p π − = 385 MeV/ c and for c.m. angles between 30° and 120°, covering the Δ (1232) resonance. The unambiguous separation of the events from the charge exchange background is based on precise neutron time-of-flight measurements. Detector efficiencies were carefully determined in separate experiments. The experimental results are in good agreement with those of the inverse reaction and with most recent multipole analyses. An upper limit of ±2% can be set on the contribution of the isotensor term to the transition amplitude. A time reversal violating phase, when added to the resonant M 1+ 3 amplitude in the Donnachie-Shaw model, is found to be consistent with zero.

This results was extracted from the cross sections for the inverse reactionPI- P --> GAMMA N via detailed balance by applying relation: D(SIG(GAMMA))/D(OM EGA)=D(SIG(PI-))/D(OMEGA)*P(PI)**2/2/P(GAMMA)**2.

K- p Reactions from 0.96-GeV/c to 1.355-GeV/c Involving Two-Body Final States

Inspire Record 2769 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.8717

Data are presented from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment to study K − p interactions in the c.m. energy range 1775 to 1957 MeV. For the reactions K − p → K − p, K − p → K 0 n , K − p → Λπ 0 and K − p → Σ ± π ∓ channel cross sections, differential cross sections and, where appropriate, polarisation distributions have been obtained. The channel cross sections for K − p → Σ 0 π 0 are presented. In general the results are in agreement with those previously published although a significant discrepancy has been found in the Σ ± π ∓ cross sections at the lower energies. New measurements of the Σ ± lifetimes have also been obtained ( τ Σ − = 1.49 ± 0.03 × 10 −10 sec, τ Σ + = 0.807 ± 0.013 × 10 −10 sec).

Measurement of Differential Cross-Sections for Radiative Pion-Proton Capture in the Second Resonance Region

Weiss, A.J. ; Blasberg, D.J. ; Comiso, J.C. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 101 (1975) 1-18, 1975.
Inspire Record 2234 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.36075

Differential cross-section measurements for π − p → γ n, consisting of three angular distributions at 618, 676 and 718 MeV/ c , and the energy dependence at θ γ = 90° for seven incident pion momenta between 502 and 888 MeV/ c , are presented. Our data qualitatively support recent multipole analyses. Agreement with the Scheffler et al. results for the inverse reaction, γ n → π − p, using a ( π − -recoil p) coincidence technique is good excluding a large violation of time reversal invariance. The agreement with γ n → π − p data obtained using the R ( π − / π + ) ratio technique or a deuterium bubble chamber is only qualitative.
