The energy dependence of the photon-proton total cross section, sigma-tot, was determined from ep scattering data collected with the ZEUS detector at HERA at three values of the center-of-mass energy, W, of the gamma-p system in the range 194<W<296 GeV. This is the first determination of the W dependence of sigma-tot from a single experiment at high W. Parameterizing sigma-tot proportional to W^(2 epsilon), epsilon = 0.111 +/- 0.009 (stat.) +/- 0.036 (syst.) was obtained.

The first observation of (anti)deuterons in deep inelastic scattering at HERA has been made with the ZEUS detector at a centre-of-mass energy of 300--318 GeV using an integrated luminosity of 120 pb-1. The measurement was performed in the central rapidity region for transverse momentum per unit of mass in the range 0.3<p_T/M<0.7. The particle rates have been extracted and interpreted in terms of the coalescence model. The (anti)deuteron production yield is smaller than the (anti)proton yield by approximately three orders of magnitude, consistent with the world measurements.

Measurement of dijet cross sections for events with a leading neutron in photoproduction at HERA.

Differential cross sections for dijet photoproduction in association with a leading neutron using the reaction e^+ + p --> e^+ + n + jet + jet + X_r have been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated luminosity of 6.4 pb^{-1}. The fraction of dijet events with a leading neutron in the final state was studied as a function of the jet kinematic variables. The cross sections were measured for jet transverse energies E^{jet}_T > 6 GeV, neutron energy E_n > 400 GeV, and neutron production angle theta_n < 0.8 mrad. The data are broadly consistent with factorization of the lepton and hadron vertices and with a simple one-pion-exchange model.
