Measurement of the Inclusive Jet Cross-Section at the CERN p anti-p Collider

The inclusive jet cross section has been measured in the UA1 experiment at the CERN p p Collider at centre-of-mass energies √ s = 546 GeV and √ s = 630 eV. The cross sections are found to be consistent with QCD predictions, The observed change in the cross section with the centre-of-mass energy √ s is accounted for in terms of x T scaling.

High-energy Photoproduction of Large Transverse Momentum $\pi^0$ Mesons: A Quantitative Test of {QCD}

The first results on inclusive photoproduction of π 0 at transverse momenta up to 4 GeV/ c , using incident γ energies between 50 and 150 GeV are presented. A comparison is made with inclusive π 0 production obtained, in the same experiment, with incident π − . Using the π − data to parametrize the hadronic behaviour of the photon, significant differences are observed in quantitative agreement with QCD Compton scattering and corrections thereof.

A Measurement of the Electroweak Induced Charge Asymmetry in e+ e- ---> B anti-B

The forward-backward charge asymmetry for the process e + e − → b b ̄ → μ ± + hadrons has been measured using the JADE detector at PETRA. An asymmetry of (−22.8 ± 6.0 ± 2.5)% was observed at an average center of mass energy of 34.6 GeV. For comparison, an asymmetry of −25.2% is expected on the basis of the standard Glashow-Salam-Weinberg model.

Anti-Baryon Production in the Central Region at the {ISR}

Using annihilation in a calorimeter as a trigger on antiprotons, we have measured the relative production cross sections of p , Λ and Ξ at y∼0 in the transverse momentum range 1 to 2 GeV/ c in pp collisions at √ s =63 GeV. We investigate correlations between the antibaryons and associated produced particles, and find evidence for local baryon number conservation.

We present results on the jet structure observed in multihadronic events produced by e+e− annihilation in the Mark I magnetic detector at SPEAR. The evidence for jet structure and the jet-axis angular distribution are reported. We give inclusive distributions of the hadrons in Feynman x, rapidity, and transverse momentum relative to the jet axis.

Inclusive ϱ 0 production has been investigated in p p reactions at 22.4 GeV/ c . The total cross section for ϱ 0 production is 8.1 ± 2.0 mb. The average ϱ 0 's per event is 0.17 ± 0.03. The average transverse momentum, as obtained by extrapolation of a fitted simple exponential to the p T 2 distribution, is 0.52 ± 0.12 GeV/ c . The Feynman x and c.m. rapidity distributions show ϱ 0 to be “centrally” produced.
