First results are reported on J ψ and Drell-Yan cross-sections in PbPb reactions at 158 GeV/ c per nucleon. The ratio of cross-sections σ J/ψ /σ DY is studied as a function of the impact parameter of the collision estimated from the measured transverse energy.

The Drell-Yan cross sections are taken in the mass interval 2.9 to 4.5 GeV. SIG/SIG ratio are free from most systematic errors.
The relative production yields and transverse mass spectra for Λ, Λ , Ξ − and Ξ + hyperons in proton-tungsten interactions are presented and compared with the WA85 results from central sulphur-tungsten interactions. A study of the negative particle yield has also been undertaken and the ratio of Λ hyperons to negative particles has been calculated.

The quasifree p+n→d+η reaction cross section has been measured in the near-threshold region using deuterium from an internal cluster-jet target and 1350 MeV protons in the CELSIUS storage ring of the The Svedberg Laboratory, Uppsala. The energy dependence of the cross section is extracted by exploiting the Fermi momentum of the target neutron and reconstructing the kinematics on an event-by-event basis. The data cover center of mass excess energies from 16 to 113 MeV.

The reaction pp→pπ+N has been studied at three energies ( Tp=1520, 1805, and 2100 MeV) and six angles from 0° up to 17° (laboratory). Several narrow states have been observed in missing mass spectra at 1004, 1044, and 1094 MeV. Their widths are typically 1 order of magnitude smaller than the widths of N* or Δ. Possible biases are discussed. These masses are in good agreement with those calculated within a simple phenomenological mass formula based on color magnetic interaction between two colored quark clusters.

Using the ARGUS detector at the e + e − storage ring DORIS II at DESY, we have found evidence for the production of the excited charmed baryon state Λ c (2593) + in the channel Λ c + π + π − . Its mass was determined to be (2594.6±0.9±0.4) MeV/c 2 , and the natural width measured to be Γ = (2.9 −2.1−1.4 +2.9+1.8 ) MeV. The production cross section times the branching ratios of σ ( e + e − → Λ c (2593) + X ) × Br ( Λ c (2593) + → Λ c + π + π − ) × Br ( Λ c + → pK − π + ) was measured to be (0.25 −0.13 +0.24 ±0.13) pb. The fractions of Λ c (2593) + decays proceeding through the Σ c 0 π + and Σ c ++ π − channels were determined to be 0.29±0.10±0.11 and 0.37±0.12±0.13, respectively.
Results with and without extrapolation.
The total cross section for the γn→pπ−π0 reaction has been measured over the photon energy range 450–800 MeV at the 855 MeV MAMI Microtron in Mainz with the large acceptance detector DAPHNE and using a deuterium target. As expected, this reaction has a very similar cross section to the γp→nπ+π0 channel and its amplitude is strongly underestimated by the existing double pion photoproduction models.

Using data collected with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring, we determine the ratio R(chrg) for the mean charged multiplicity observed in Upsilon(1S)->gggamma events, to the mean charged multiplicity observed in e+e- -> qqbar gamma events. We find R(chrg)=1.04+/-0.02+/-0.05 for jet-jet masses less than 7 GeV.

Using the CLEO detector at the Cornell $e~+e~-$ storage ring, CESR, we study the two-photon production of $\Lambda \overline{\Lambda}$, making the first observation of $\gamma \gamma \to \Lambda \overline{\Lambda}$. We present the cross-section for $ \gamma \gamma \to \Lambda \overline{\Lambda}$ as a function of the $\gamma \gamma$ center of mass energy and compare it to that predicted by the quark-diquark model.

This letter describes a measurement of one of the anomalous triple gauge boson couplings using the first data recorded by the OPAL detector at LEP2. A total of 28 W-pair candidates have been selected for an integrated luminosity of 9.89±0.06 pb −1 recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 161 GeV. We use these data to place constraints upon the coupling parameter α W φ . We analyse the predicted variation of the total cross-section for all observed channels and the distribution of kinematic variables in the semileptonic decay channels. We measure α W φ to be −0.61 −0.61 0.73 ±0.35, which is consistent with the Standard Model expectation of zero.

The total cross section and the forward-backward asymmetry for the process e + e − → μ + μ − ( nγ ) are measured in the energy range 20–136 GeV by reconstructing the effective centre-of-mass energy after initial state radiation. The analysis is based on the data recorded with the ALEPH detector at LEP between 1990 and 1995, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 143.5 pb −1 . Two different approaches are used: in the first one an exclusive selection of events with hard initial state radiation in the energy range 20–88 GeV is directly compared with the Standard Model predictions showing good agreement. In the second one, all events are used to obtain a precise measurement of the energy dependence of σ 0 and A FB 0 from a model independent fit, enabling constraints to be placed on models with extra Z bosons.
