We report new results on a precision measurement of the ratio R=σLσT and the structure function F2 for deep-inelastic electron-nucleon scattering in the kinematic range 0.2≤x≤0.5 and 1≤Q2≤10 (GeV/c)2. Our results show, for the first time, a clear falloff of R with increasing Q2. Our R and F2 results are in good agreement with QCD predictions only when corrections for target-mass effects are included.

A measurement of the nucleon structure function F 2 on iron is presented. The data cover a kinematic range of 3.25 ⪕ Q 2 ⪕ 200 GeV 2 and 0.05 ⪕ x ⪕ 0.65 . The data clearly show scaling violation. Fits in leading-order QCD have been made and values for the scale breaking parameter λ are given.

Nucleon structure functions obtained from neutrino and anti-neutrino scattering on iron nuclei at high energies (Ev=30 to 250 GeV) are presented. These results are compared with the results of other lepton-nucleon scattering experiments. The structure functions are used to test the validity of the Gross-Llewellyn-smith sum rule, which measures the number of valence quarks in the nucleons, and to obtain leading and second order QCD fits.

Experimental results obtained at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron on the structure-function ratio F2n/F2p in the kinematic range 0.004<x<0.8 and 0.4<Q2<190 GeV2, together with the structure function F2d determined from a fit to published data, are used to derive the difference F2p(x)-F2n(x). The value of the Gottfried sum F(F2p-F2n)dx/x=0.240±0.016 is below the quark-parton-model expectation of 1/3.

A combination is presented of all inclusive deep inelastic cross sections previously published by the H1 and ZEUS collaborations at HERA for neutral and charged current $e^{\pm}p$ scattering for zero beam polarisation. The data were taken at proton beam energies of 920, 820, 575 and 460 GeV and an electron beam energy of 27.5 GeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of about 1 fb$^{-1}$ and span six orders of magnitude in negative four-momentum-transfer squared, $Q^2$, and Bjorken $x$. The correlations of the systematic uncertainties were evaluated and taken into account for the combination. The combined cross sections were input to QCD analyses at leading order, next-to-leading order and at next-to-next-to-leading order, providing a new set of parton distribution functions, called HERAPDF2.0. In addition to the experimental uncertainties, model and parameterisation uncertainties were assessed for these parton distribution functions. Variants of HERAPDF2.0 with an alternative gluon parameterisation, HERAPDF2.0AG, and using fixed-flavour-number schemes, HERAPDF2.0FF, are presented. The analysis was extended by including HERA data on charm and jet production, resulting in the variant HERAPDF2.0Jets. The inclusion of jet-production cross sections made a simultaneous determination of these parton distributions and the strong coupling constant possible, resulting in $\alpha_s(M_Z)=0.1183 \pm 0.0009 {\rm(exp)} \pm 0.0005{\rm (model/parameterisation)} \pm 0.0012{\rm (hadronisation)} ^{+0.0037}_{-0.0030}{\rm (scale)}$. An extraction of $xF_3^{\gamma Z}$ and results on electroweak unification and scaling violations are also presented.
HERA combined reduced cross sections $\sigma_{r,\rm NC}^{+}$ for NC $e^{+}p$ scattering at $\sqrt{s} = 318$ GeV; $\delta_{\rm stat}$, $\delta_{\rm uncor}$ and $\delta_{\rm cor}$ represent the statistical, uncorrelated systematic and correlated systematic uncertainties, respectively; $\delta_{\rm rel}$, $\delta_{\gamma p}$, $\delta_{\rm had}$ and $\delta_{1}$ to $\delta_{4}$ are the correlated sources of uncertainties arising from the combination procedure. New data is presented on the ratios of structure functions F 2 ( x , Q 2 ) measured in deep inelastic muon scattering with deuterium, nitrogen, and iron targets. The existence of nuclear effects at large Q 2 is confirmed with improved systematic accuracy. The ratio F 2 Fe ( x ) F 2 D 2 ( x ) covers the range 0.20 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.70 and is in agreement with earlier measurements. The ratio F 2 N 2 ( x )/ F 2 D 2 ( x ) is measured over the range 0.08 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.70 and is compatible with unity below x = 0.3.

The CDHS neutrino detector has been used to measure events originating in a tank of liquid hydrogen and in the iron of the detector. Total cross-sections, differential cross-sections, and structure functions are given for hydrogen and compared with those in iron. The measurements are in agreement with the expectations of the quark parton model. No significant differences indicative of nuclear binding effects in corresponding structure functions of protons and iron are observed. This may be of special interest in the case of the sea structure functions, since large differences are expected in some models.
