Data on correlations between momentum analysed protons, pions or K mesons, and charged particles produced in pp collisions at the CERN ISR are presented. The charged particles were detected in a ∼4 π scintillation counter hodoscope. The pseudo-rapidity distributions are well described by production within the limits of cylindrical phase space, with negative kaons and antiprotons yielding narrower distributions than protons, pions and positive kaons. The azimuthal distributions show symmetry around the t -channel axis in the rest frame of the recoiling mass M x in pp → aX (a = detected proton, pion, positive kaon).

New data from a 600 000 picture exposure of the BNL 31 inch hydrogen bubble chamber to a separated antiproton beam have been analyzed to try to determine if the π + π − π + π − or π + π − π + π − π 0 final states contribute any broad or narrow structure in the T(2190) region. The resonance channel fractions determined by maximum likelihood fits are all consistent with smooth behavior through the T-region and therefore there is no significant evidence that any of these resonance channels contributes to the broad bump in the total cross section. The errors on some of the fractions, however, limit the sensitivity to ∼ 0.5 mb for enhancements in these channels.

Differential cross sections have been measured for the interactions p p → π − π + and p p → K − K + over a centre of mass angular range −0.95 ⩽ cos θ ∗ ⩽ 0.95 at 20 incident momenta between 0.79 and 2.43 GeV/ c . A magnetic spectrometer with wire spark chambers was used. Typically 2000 π − π + and 300 K − K + events were obtained at each momentum. Results are compared with those from related experiments.

We present data on inclusive and semi-inclusive ϱ 0 production in 147 GeV/ c π − p interactions. We find a total cross section of 7.3 ± 1.3 mb. Most of this cross section is found in the lower topology events (⩽ 10 prongs), and in the central and forward rapidity regions. The P T 2 dependence of ϱ 0 production, 〈: n > ϱ 0 per event, and the ϱ 0 / π + ratios are also discussed.

Results on the channels K − p → Λ 0 η 0 , Λ 0 π 0 , Σ 0 π 0 , Λ 0 π 0 π 0 and Σ 0 π 0 π 0 are obtained in a K − p formation experiment using 1 million photographs taken in a heavy liquid bubble chamber filled with a CF 3 BrC 3 H 8 mixture. The results are compared with hydrogen bubble chamber (HBC) experiments and with experiments having full or partial gamma-ray detection. Our Λ 0 π 0 and Λ 0 + neutral cross section agree with HBC results. Our Σ 0 π 0 cross section does not exhibit a bump at 1670 MeV as previously seen in HBC experiments. Our Λ 0 π 0 π 0 data are dominated by a Σ (1385) π 0 production. Our Σ 0 π 0 π 0 data is consistent with the presence of some Σ (1405) π 0 production.

Cross sections are given for the various exclusive reactions K − p→ Λ 0 + n pions, as well as for quasi two-body final states involving ϱ 0 , ω 0 and Y 1 ∗ (1385) resonance production. The general features of Λ 0 production are presented as a function of the pion multiplicity n . Production of Y 1 ∗+ (1385) is clearly observed at all multiplicities while the Y 1 ∗− (1385) signals grow with the multiplicity, as expected in a non-exotic exchange picture. The polarisation of the Λ 0 is consistent with zero everywhere, except when it is a decay product of Y 1 ∗ (1385), when non-zero values are found for odd values of n . The reactions Λ 0 + 2π and Λ 0 + 3π are analysed in terms of the Plahte-Roberts model and good overall agreement is obtained for the various effective mass distributions and the p L ∗ , p T and cos θ distributions for the individual particles.

This paper presents the results of a counter experiment at the Rutherford Laboratory, in which the polarization parameter in π + p elastic scattering was measured. Data were taken at 64 incident pion momenta between 0.60 and 2.65 GeV/ c . The results are found to be in generally good agreement with those of other experiments, and have substantially higher precision at many momenta.

From a 98000-photograph exposure of the BNL 80-in. deuterium-filled chamber to a 14.6-GeV/c p¯ beam we have extracted those events that fit the channel p¯n→p¯pπ−. The cross section for this channel is measured to be 730 ± 50 μb. The cross section for the reaction p¯n→Δ¯−−(1238)p is determined to be 130 ± 30 μb. Evidence for target dissociation is presented. A comparison with the reaction π−n→π−pπ− at the same energy indicates agreement with factorization.

We present measurements from a spark chamber experiment of the differential cross-sections for p p → π − π + , K − K + at 20 momenta in the range 0.8–2.4 GeV/ c (c.m. energy 2.02 to 2.57 GeV). The c.m. angular range was −0.95 < cos θ ∗ < 0.95 . There are about 2000π − π + events and about 300 K − K + events at each momentum.

Results are reported based on a study of π − p interactions at 147 GeV/ c in the FERMILAB 30-inch Proportional Wire Hybrid Bubble Chamber System. We have measured the topological cross sections and separated two-prong elastic and inelastic channels. In addition, we have extracted leading particle cross sections using the increased momentum resolution of the downstream proportional wire chambers. We have compared our results with experiments and predictions of a simple fragmentation hyphothesis.
