We measured the polarization parameter P in neutron-proton elastic scattering near the backward direction, using a polarized proton target. Measurements covered the range of incident neutron momenta from 1.0 to 5.5 GeV/ c and of four-momentum transfer squared u from −0.005 to −0.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 .

Inspire Record 91346 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.6742

The K − p reactions leading to charge exchange and hyperon final states have been studied at nine momenta between 862 and 1001 MeV/ c using data from a 600 000 picture exposure of the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory 25″ liquid hydrogen bubble chamber. Partial cross sections are determined for all final states resolved by kinematic fitting. In addition, differential cross sections are presented for the two-body final states K o n , Λπ o and Σ +- π -+ along with hyperon polarization angular distributions for Λπ o and Σ + π − .

Measurement of the vector analyzing power in elastic electron proton scattering as a probe of double photon exchange amplitudes.

We report the first measurement of the vector analyzing power in inclusive transversely polarized elastic electron-proton scattering at Q^2 = 0.1 (GeV/c)^2 and large scattering angles. This quantity should vanish in the single virtual photon exchange, plane wave impulse approximation for this reaction, and can therefore provide information on double photon exchange amplitudes for electromagnetic interactions with hadronic systems. We find a non-zero value of A=-15.4+/-5.4 ppm. No calculations of this observable for nuclei other than spin 0 have been carried out in these kinematics, and the calculation using the spin orbit interaction from a charged point nucleus of spin 0 cannot describe these data.

New Measurements of Polarization and Differential Cross-Sections in K+ p Elastic Scattering in the 1.7-GeV/c-3-GeV/c Range

Phys.Rev.Lett. 34 (1975) 975-978, 1975.
Inspire Record 102699 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21222

We have measured the polarization parameter and differential cross sections in K+p elastic scattering from a polarized target from small |t| and small |u| at five momentum points: 1.7, 2.1, 2.4, 2.7, and 3.0 GeV/c. The polarized-proton target was butanol cooled at 0.5° by a He3-He4 refrigerator; a combination of multiwire proportional chambers and scintillation counters detected the scattered particles. The results for small |u| are discussed in the context of pure Regge-pole models with exchange-degenerate Λ trajectories.

Polarization in proton-beryllium and proton-proton scattering at 1.7 GeV

Nuovo Cim. 20 (1961) 1049-1066, 1961.
Inspire Record 1185005 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.37750

The polarization in p-Be and p-p scattering has been measured by counter techniques at a proton kinetic energy of 1.74 GeV. The maximum polarization in p-Be scattering was found to beP max==0.19±0.04 and occurs at an angleθ max⩾3.5°. Inelastic scatters were rejected when the inelastic momentum loss was more than about 1% in the first scatter (magnetic analysis) or more than about 5% in the second scatter (Čerenkov threshold counter). The maximum polarization in p-p scattering isP max=0.30±0.09 and occurs at an angle 35°<θ max<<55° (c.m.). The angular dependence of the polarization is consistent with a distribution proportional to sin 2θ within large statistical errors. Optical model calculations applied to the data on p-Be scattering yield an almost all imaginary central potential of about 43 MeV and a spin-orbit potential of between 0.9 MeV and 2.0 MeV which is also almost all imaginary, in contrast with the predominantly real spin-orbit potential needed to explain the large polarization in the region of several hundred MeV.

Upsilon production and polarization in p anti-p collisions at s**(1/2) = 1.8-TeV

Inspire Record 569269 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.42894

We report on measurements of the ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S), and ϒ(3S) differential cross sections (d2σ/dpTdy)|y|<0.4, as well as on the ϒ(1S) polarization in pp¯ collisions at s=1.8TeV using a sample of 77±3pb−1 collected by the collider detector at Fermilab. The three resonances were reconstructed through the decay ϒ→μ+μ−. The measured angular distribution of the muons in the ϒ(1S) rest frame is consistent with unpolarized meson production.
