From the study of the reaction π − p→p F p p π − using a fast proton (p F ) trigger device in the CERN Omega spectrometer, we find evidence for two narrow p p states produced mainly in association with a Δ° (1232) and a N° (1520). The statistical significance of each peak is greater than 6 standard deviations. Masses and natural widths of these resonances are respectively M = 2020 ± 3 MeV , Λ 1 = 24 ± 12 MeV and M 2 = 2204 ± 5 MeV, Λ 2 = 16 −16 +20 MeV. Our data are consistent with a small production of the narrow ∼ 1935 MeV resonance already reported. Production cross sections for these new p p resonances are given.

Anti-proton Proton Annihilation at Rest Into $\pi^0$ M and $\gamma$ M With M = $\phi$, $\eta^\prime$, $\omega$, $\rho^0$, $\eta$, and $\pi^0$

We have carried out high-statistics measurements of inclusive π0 and γ-ray spectra from p¯p annihilation at rest. From the monochromatic peaks in the π0 spectra, we derive the yield (or its upper limit) of the reaction p¯p→π0M for M=φ, η’, ω, ρ0, η, and π0. The same quantity was independently obtained from the γ-ray spectra, which included some π0’s that were mistaken as single γ rays due to the limited granularity of the γ detector. Taking the monochromatic peaks in the γ-ray spectra as being due to prompt γ rays, we also derive the upper limit for p¯p→γM.

Inelastic cross-section for p-air collisions from air shower experiment and total cross-section for p p collisions at SSC energy

Phys.Rev.Lett. 70 (1993) 525-528, 1993.
Inspire Record 342678 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19743

Based on an analysis of the extensive air shower data accumulated over the last ten years at Akeno Cosmic Ray Observatory, the value of the proton-air nuclei inelastic cross section (σinp−air) has been determined assuming the validity of quasi-Feynman scaling of particle production in the fragmentation region. The energy dependence of σinp−air can be represented as 290(E/1 TeV)0.052 mb in the energy interval 1016.2–1017.6 eV, where E is the incident proton energy. The total p-p cross section (σtotp−p), derived using the nuclear distribution function obtained from the shell model, increases with energy as 38.5+1.37 ln2(√s /10 GeV) mb.

Neutron skin of Na isotopes studied via the interaction cross-sections

Phys.Rev.Lett. 75 (1995) 3241-3244, 1995.
Inspire Record 400762 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19608

The interaction cross sections (σI) of ANa isotopes (A=20–23,25–32) on a carbon target have been measured at 950AMeV. The effective root-mean-square matter radii of these isotopes were deduced from σI by a Glauber-type calculation. By combining the isotope-shift data with the present data the radii of neutrons have been compared with those of protons for the first time along a chain of stable and unstable isotopes. A monotonic increase in the neutron skin thickness has been observed as the neutron number increases in Na isotopes.

Using modularized NaI(Tl) detectors, we carried out a high statistics measurement of inclusive γ-ray, π0, and η spectra, and determined the branching ratios or upper limits of Pontecorvo reactions p¯d→π0n, π0Δ0, ηn, and ηΔ0 from the corresponding monochromatic peaks in them. The obtained branching ratios are B(p¯d→π0n)=(1.03±0.41)×10−5, B(p¯d→π0Δ0)=(4.67±1.66)×10−5, B(p¯d→ηn)<8.94×10−6 (95% C.L.), and B(p¯d→ηΔ0)<6.49×10−5 (95% C.L.).

Measurement of B(D_s+ -> mu+ nu_mu)/B(D_s+ -> phi mu+ nu_mu) and Determination of the Decay Constant f_{D_s}

Inspire Record 420154 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.43789

We have observed $23.2 \pm 6.0_{-0.9}^{+1.0}$ purely-leptonic decays of $D_s^+ -> \mu^+ \nu_\mu$ from a sample of muonic one prong decay events detected in the emulsion target of Fermilab experiment E653. Using the $D_s^+ -> \phi \mu^+ \nu_\mu$ yield measured previously in this experiment, we obtain $B(D_s^+ --> \mu^+ \nu_\mu) / B(D_s^+ --> \phi \mu^+ \nu_\mu) =0.16 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.03$. In addition, we extract the decay constant $f_{D_s}=194 \pm 35 \pm 20 \pm 14 MeV$.

The Total cross-section for the He-4 (gamma, n p p) n reaction in the Delta resonance region

This is the first measurement of the total cross section σ( 4 He (γ npp)n) in the range of 135–455 MeV. The σ, which cannot be reproduced by any model, has similar E γ dependence to γ T (γ 4 He → all channels). The averaged ratio σ( 4 He(γ, npp)n)/ σ T (γ 4 He → all channels) = (2.3 ± 0.3)% is compared with a cascade-model calculation in which quasi-free pion production followed by pion reabsorption is assumed.
