The reaction K + p→ Δ ++ (1236)+ anything is studied at beam momenta 8.2 and 16 GeV/ c and compared with other Δ ++ producing reactions. We find that the low-mass Δ ++ π − enhancement affects the shapes of Δ ++ inclusive distributions. The triple-Regge formula is found to be consistent with the data. Dual properties of this formula are successfully tested.

Inclusive production of Λ and Λ in K + p interactions is studied at incident momenta of 8.2 and 16.0 GeV/ c . Cross sections and single-particle distributions are presented, the correlation between longitudinal and transverse momentum is investigated, and the dependence of average charge multiplicity on missing mass measured. For Λ production, early scaling is observed in the target fragmentation region when the data are presented in terms of ( M 2 - M th 2 )/ s and t , where M th is the threshold value of the missing mass M . Furthermore, a triple-Regge analysis in these variable yields an effective exchange trajectory which passes through the K, Q and L mesons. There is evidence for beam fragmentation in Λ and Λ production, but the contributions seem not to be dominant in the fragmentation region. Nevertheless, the parameter values in a triple-Regge description are estimated, and together with those for target fragmentation in Λ production, provide a complete description of the fragmentation contributions to the two reactions. Integration of the resultant distribution functions over the complete Chew-Low plot yields fragmentation cross sections increasing approximately as log s ; in addition the observed features of the x , p L and p T 2 projections and of the p L - p T correlation are well-described in the fragmentation regions. A study of the inclusive production of π − , η , ϱ 0 , ω ad f mesons in p p annihilation at 0.7 GeV/ c is presented. Topological and channel cross sections are determined. Longitudinal and transversal momentum distributions of non-strange mesons are studied. It is deduced that nearly 48% of all negative pions arise from the decay of η , ϱ 0 , ω and f mesons.

Inclusive V0 production in 6.5-GeV/c K−p interactions is studied using the ANL 12-ft-diameter hydrogen bubble chamber. The total cross sections for inclusive K¯0 and Λ0 production are σ(K¯0)=7.98±0.49 mb and σ(Λ0)=3.94±0.24 mb. Semi-inclusive differential cross sections are determined as functions of Feynman x and transverse momentum squared of the V0's and of four-momentum transfer to the V0. The average charge multiplicity, the ratio 〈nc〉D, and the correlation function f2cc for the neutrally charged hadronic system recoiling from the V0 are determined as functions of the mass of the recoiling system. Results are used to examine universal aspects of multiparticle production.

Inclusive production of Δ ++ (1232) with >| t p, Δ ++>|<0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 is studied in 32 GeV/ c K + p interactions. A systematic comparison with the reaction K + p→pX for >| t p,p>| < 0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 is made. The production properties of the Δ ++ (1232), of associated π + , π − and K 0 production and of the recoiling system X 0 are investigated in detail. The polarization of the Δ ++ and the energy dependence of the total K + π − cross sections, determined by a Chew-Low extrapolation, are presented and discussed.

Total and semi-inclusive cross sections, longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions and spin density matrix elements of theK*+(892) andK*0(892) produced in the inclusive reactionsK+p→K*+(892)+X andK+p→K*0(892)+X at 32 GeV/c are studied in detail. The inclusive spectra of theK*(892) and their decay products are compared with pion and neutral kaon production. TheK*+(892) andK*+(892) are dominantly produced by kaon fragmentation processes. Inclusive ϱ 0 and φ production is investigated in K + p interactions at 32 GeV/ c . Total and semi-inclusive ϱ 0 and φ cross sections, longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions, including 〈 P T versus x dependence are presented. No evidence for a sea-gull effect is observed. Comparison with quark models strongly suggests the possibility that a large fraction of the ϱ 0 and vector mesons are produced as fragmentation products of the incident particles. Study of uncorrelated π + π − pairs in the ϱ 0 mass range provides possible indirect evidence for the existence of diquarks in the proton.

The final states of charged hadrons produced in 280 GeV μp scattering are analysed with respect to their planarity and jet structure. Distributions of p ⊥ 2 in and p ⊥ out 2 are presented. A two jet structure in the forward hemisphere is observed for events with high p ⊥ tracks are predicted by QCD models.
