The reaction π − p → ηφ has been studied at 1.8 GeV/ c incident pion momentum using the Bologna-CERN NBC set-up, in order to investigate the electromagnetic decay mode φ → ηγ . We observed (27 ± 6) events, yielding a branching ratio Γ(φ → ηγ) Γ(φ → total ) = (7.3 ± 1.9)% . The theoretical implications of this result are discussed.

We report measurements of the photon beam asymmetry $\Sigma$ for the reaction $\vec{\gamma} p\to K^+\Sigma^0$(1193) using the GlueX spectrometer in Hall D at Jefferson Lab. Data were collected using a linearly polarized photon beam in the energy range of 8.2-8.8 GeV incident on a liquid hydrogen target. The beam asymmetry $\Sigma$ was measured as a function of the Mandelstam variable $t$, and a single value of $\Sigma$ was extracted for events produced in the $u$-channel. These are the first exclusive measurements of the photon beam asymmetry $\Sigma$ for the reaction in this energy range. For the $t$-channel, the measured beam asymmetry is close to unity over the $t$-range studied, $-t=(0.1-1.4)~$(GeV/$c$)$^{2}$, with an average value of $\Sigma = 1.00\pm 0.05$. This agrees with theoretical models that describe the reaction via the natural-parity exchange of the $K^{*}$(892) Regge trajectory. A value of $\Sigma = 0.41 \pm 0.09$ is obtained for the $u$-channel integrated up to $-u=2.0$~(GeV/$c$)$^{2}$.

Results are reported on the Δ ++ ϱ 0 and the Δ ++ ω 0 final states obtained from a 4 event/μb exposure of the Argonne National Laboratory 30 inch hydrogen bubble chamber to a π + beam at 5.45 GeV/ c . Data are presented on cross sections, differential cross sections, spin density matrix elements and differential cross-sections weighted by density matrix elements. Certain features of the data relevant to various Regge models are noted and the data is compared to a π -B exchange degenerate Regge model due to Abrams and Maor.

Study of $e^+ e^- \to \pi^+ \pi^- J/\psi$ and Observation of a Charged Charmonium-like State at Belle

The cross section for $e^+ e^- \to \pi^+ \pi^- J/\psi$ between 3.8 GeV and 5.5 GeV is measured with a 967 fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected by the Belle detector at or near the $\Upsilon(nS)$ ($n = 1,\ 2,\ ...,\ 5$) resonances. The Y(4260) state is observed, and its resonance parameters are determined. In addition, an excess of $\pi^+ \pi^- J/\psi$ production around 4 GeV is observed. This feature can be described by a Breit-Wigner parameterization with properties that are consistent with the Y(4008) state that was previously reported by Belle. In a study of $Y(4260) \to \pi^+ \pi^- J/\psi$ decays, a structure is observed in the $M(\pi^\pm\jpsi)$ mass spectrum with $5.2\sigma$ significance, with mass $M=(3894.5\pm 6.6\pm 4.5) {\rm MeV}/c^2$ and width $\Gamma=(63\pm 24\pm 26)$ MeV/$c^{2}$, where the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. This structure can be interpreted as a new charged charmonium-like state.

Data on pbar-b annihilation in flight into pizero-pizero-eta are presented for nine beam momenta 600 to 1940 MeV/c. The strongest four intermediate states are found to be f_2(1270)-eta, a_2(1320)-pi, sigma-eta and a_0(980)-pi. Partial wave analysis is performed mainly to look for resonances formed by pbar-p and decaying into pizero-pizero-eta through these intermediate states. There is evidence for the following s-channel I = 0 resonances : two 4^{++} resonances with mass and width (M,Gamma) at (2044, 208) MeV and (2320+-30, 220+-30) MeV/ three 2^{++} resonances at (2020+-50, 200+-70) MeV, (2240+-40, 170+-50) MeV and (2370+-50, 320+-50) MeV/ two 3^{++} resonances at (2000+-40, 250+-40) MeV and (2280+-30, 210+-30) MeV/ a 1^{++} resonance at (2340+-40, 340+-40) MeV/ and two 2^{-+} resonances at (2040+-40, 190+-40) MeV and (2300+-40, 270+-40) MeV.

Spin Dependence of High p-Transverse**2 Elastic p p Scattering

We measured dσdt for p↑+p↑→p+p from P⊥2=4.50 to 5.09 (GeV/c)2 at 11.75 GeV/c. We used a 59%-polarized proton beam and a 71%-polarized proton target with both spins oriented perpendicular to the scattering plane. In these large-P⊥2 hard-scattering events, spin effects are very large and the ratio (dσdt)↑↑:(dσdt)↑↓ grows rapidly with increasing P⊥2, reaching a value of 4 at 90° (c.m.). Thus, hard elastic scattering, which is presumably due to the direct scattering of the protons' constituents, may only occur when the two incident protons' spins are parallel.

Measurements are reported of the proton and deuteron spin structure functions g1 at beam energies of 29.1, 16.2, and 9.7 GeV and g2 at a beam energy of 29.1 GeV. The integrals of g1 over x have been evaluated at fixed Q**2 = 3 (GeV/c)**2 using the full data set. The Q**2 dependence of the ratio g1/F1 was studied and found to be small for Q**2 > 1 (GeV/c)**2. Within experimental precision the g2 data are well-described by the Wandzura-Wilczek twist-2 contribution. Twist-3 matrix elements were extracted and compared to theoretical predictions. The asymmetry A2 was measured and found to be significantly smaller than the positivity limit for both proton and deuteron targets. A2 for the proton is found to be positive and inconsistent with zero. Measurements of g1 in the resonance region show strong variations with x and Q**2, consistent with resonant amplitudes extracted from unpolarized data. These data allow us to study the Q**2 dependence of the first moments of g1 below the scaling region.

A kinematically complete measurement of the proton structure function F2 in the resonance region and evaluation of its moments.

Inspire Record 612145 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.12253

We measured the inclusive electron-proton cross section in the nucleon resonance region (W < 2.5 GeV) at momentum transfers Q**2 below 4.5 (GeV/c)**2 with the CLAS detector. The large acceptance of CLAS allowed for the first time the measurement of the cross section in a large, contiguous two-dimensional range of Q**2 and x, making it possible to perform an integration of the data at fixed Q**2 over the whole significant x-interval. From these data we extracted the structure function F2 and, by including other world data, we studied the Q**2 evolution of its moments, Mn(Q**2), in order to estimate higher twist contributions. The small statistical and systematic uncertainties of the CLAS data allow a precise extraction of the higher twists and demand significant improvements in theoretical predictions for a meaningful comparison with new experimental results.

Evidence is presented for an enhancement in the ωππ mass spectrum at the A2 mass region in π+p interactions at 5 GeV/c. Assuming this effect to be the A2, we calculate the decay rate relative to the ρπ decay mode and obtain the results 0.29 ± 0.08 and 0.10 ± 0.04 for the two final states A20Δ++ and A2+p, respectively. Possible explanations of the discrepancy between these numbers are suggested.
