The production of K s 0 , Λ and Λ is measured in π + p interactions at 32 GeV/ c . The total inclusive cross sections are found to be 2.07±0.14, 1.00±0.10 and 0.14±0.04 mb, respectively. The energy dependence of total inclusive cross sections and inclusive distributions is discussed and a comparison is made with p, p , K + and K − induced reactions. We find that the factorization hypothesis is satisfied for the inclusive reactions π + p→ Λ X and K + p→ Λ X. Multi-strange-particle production is similar in π + p and K + p interactions at 32 GeV/ c . There is evidence for beam fragmentation in Λ production. The hierarchy of Λ inclusive cross sections in p , K + , π + and K − induced reactions at 32 GeV/ c is qualitatively explained by a quark recombination model. The cross sections for inclusive K ∗ + (892) and Σ + (1385) production in 32 GeV/ c π + p interactions are 1.07±0.57 mb and 0.19±0.08 mb, respectively.

New experimental results are presented on inclusive production properties of\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *+ } \)(1385) and\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *+ } \)(1385) inK+p interactions at 32 GeV/c. The analysis is based on significantly larger statistics than previously available. A comparison is also made of invariantx-distributions ofK0/\(\bar K^0 \),\(\bar \Lambda \) and\(\bar \Xi ^ +\) and of\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *\pm } \)(1385) andK*+(892). These spectra exhibit regularities expected from the quark-recombination picture when it is assumed that the strange mesons and antibaryons are produced off the strange\(\bar s\)-valence-quark in the incidentK+ meson. Transverse momentum distributions are also presented forK*+(892) and\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *\pm } \)(1385) and found to be very similar. The results on strange antibaryon average multiplicities disagree strongly with a recent version of the additive quark model.

The production properties ofKs0,\(\bar \Lambda\) andK+p interactions at 32 GeV/c are investigated using the final statistics of the experiment. We present total and semi-inclusive cross sections and aver-age multiplicities. Estimates are given of the diffractive dissociation contributions to total and differential cross sections. Thex-,pT−, and transverse mass dependence of inclusive and semi-inclusive distributions is discussed as well as properties of “prompt”Ks0's. The ratio of “prompt”K890+ (K8900) to “prompt”K0 cross sections is measured to be 1.03±0.12 (0.98±0.17). From a comparison of\(\bar \Lambda\) production inK±p interactions at 32 GeV/c, we estimate a strange sea-quark suppression of 0.26 ±0.02. The double differential cross sections ofKs0's is studied as a function of Feynman-x andpT2, and a Triple-Regge fit performed. The data are compared in detail to versions of the Lund-model for low-pT hadronic collisions.

A systematic analysis is presented on the reaction K + p → K ∗0 (890) Δ ++ for nine incident momenta between 4.6–16.0 GeV/ c . Cross sections, differential cross sections and vector meson single density matrix elements are given. As a function of energy, little if any change is observed in either the shapes of the differential cross sections or in the values of the density matrix elements. The data are interpreted in terms of current ideas on t -channel exchange mechanisms.

Inclusive production of Δ ++ (1232) with >| t p, Δ ++>|<0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 is studied in 32 GeV/ c K + p interactions. A systematic comparison with the reaction K + p→pX for >| t p,p>| < 0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 is made. The production properties of the Δ ++ (1232), of associated π + , π − and K 0 production and of the recoiling system X 0 are investigated in detail. The ALICE Collaboration has measured inclusive J/psi production in pp collisions at a center of mass energy sqrt(s)=2.76 TeV at the LHC. The results presented in this Letter refer to the rapidity ranges |y|<0.9 and 2.5<y<4 and have been obtained by measuring the electron and muon pair decay channels, respectively. The integrated luminosities for the two channels are L^e_int=1.1 nb^-1 and L^mu_int=19.9 nb^-1, and the corresponding signal statistics are N_J/psi^e+e-=59 +/- 14 and N_J/psi^mu+mu-=1364 +/- 53. We present dsigma_J/psi/dy for the two rapidity regions under study and, for the forward-y range, d^2sigma_J/psi/dydp_t in the transverse momentum domain 0<p_t<8 GeV/c. The results are compared with previously published results at sqrt(s)=7 TeV and with theoretical calculations.

We report the results of a study of ρ and ω production in π+p interactions at 15.7 GeV/c. The SLAC hybrid bubble-chamber facility was used to study reactions in which neutral particles are produced. Three tantalum plates inside the 40-in. bubble chamber and a large array of lead glass downstream of the chamber provided photon detection over a large solid angle. Final states with two neutral particles have been isolated with kinematic fits in which neutral pions were reconstructed in the plates and lead glass. Data from an earlier untriggered π+p bubble-chamber experiment at 15 GeV/c were used to obtain samples of events in channels which did not trigger the hybrid system. Cross sections for ρ and ω production are given for several exclusive final states. Relative ρ and ω production rates are studied. The ratio of nondiffractive ω to ρ0 production is measured to be ω/ρ0=0.44±0.07. We estimate the inclusive ω cross section to be 1.9±0.3 mb. The results are compared to the Lund model of low-pT hadronic reactions.

Inclusive φ production is studied in π − p collisions at 16 GeV/ c . The φ cross section for Feynman variable x φ > 0.2 is found to be (15.5 ± 3.6) μb. This leads to an extrapolated cross section of (29.9 ± 7.0) μb for x φ > 0.0. Fitting the momentum transfer squared distribution of the φ to the form e −bp 2 T gives an average slope of b = (2.4 ± 0.3) (GeV/ c −2 for x φ > 0.5.

The cross section for the K L 0 p elastic scattering has been measured for the first time. The incident momentum and momentum transfer ranges are 3 ⩽ p ⩽ 13 GeV/ c , 0.1 ⩽ | t | ⩽ 1.3 GeV 2 . The results are compared to those of other experiments related to ours by isotopic spin conservation, finding agreement with some and discrepancies with others. The differential cross sections have been parametrized in the form A e bt . The coefficients show little or no dependence on energy, with A ≅ 9.8 mb · GeV −2 and b ≅ 4.7 GeV −2 . The effective linear trajectory has been determined and gives α 0 = 0.95 ± 0.15, α ′ = −0.35 ± 0.48 GeV −2 , in good agreement with dominance by pomeron exchange.

Results are presented from an experiment in which high-energy deuterons, produced by proton-proton interactions at 21.1 GeV/ c incident momentum, were detected over a range of angles from 12.5 mrad to 60 mrad in the laboratory system. From the momentum spectra of the deuterons, the final states D + π + and D + ϱ + have been identified. The angular distribution for these reactions are presented and compared with previous data at lower energies.

Results are presented on the inclusive production of π± mesons and protons in\(\bar p\)p interactions at an incident antiproton momentum of 32 GeV/c in the MIRABELLE bubble chamber, based on a sample of 55,000 inelastic events. The spectra of π+(π−) andp(\(\bar p\)) are separated in the whole kinematically admitted region of phase space by a statistical method. The semi-inclusive and inclusive cross sections and the main average characteristics of π andp production are calculated. The invariant differential cross sections are studied as functions of the Fevnman scaling variablex, the rapidity and the transverse momentum. Thex distribution of π± mesons in the proton fragmentation region does not show any significant contribution from quark exchange or annihilation processes. A possible contribution of hard quark scattering on mesons or baryons is observed for large transverse momenta.

The longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions of protons and π±-mesons, produced and pp interactions at close energy (22-24 GeV), are compared. The existence of a difference between these (P<1.2 GeV/c in laboratory system) and for mesons accompaying them, is shown. The inclusive π0 and γ production is studied in a\(\bar PP\) experiment at 32.1 GeV/c performed in the Mirabelle bubble chamber with a sensitivity of ∼2.7 events/μb. Total and topological π0 cross sections are presented. Results are presented on measurements of elastic proton-proton scattering at 19.2 and 21.1 GeV/ c in the angular region where previously structure had been observed at lower energies.

The cross section for the production of Z gamma in proton-proton collisions at 8 TeV is measured based on data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.5 inverse femtobarns. Events with an oppositely-charged pair of muons or electrons together with an isolated photon are selected. The differential cross section as a function of the photon transverse momentum is measured inclusively and exclusively, where the exclusive selection applies a veto on central jets. The observed cross sections are compatible with the expectations of next-to-next-to-leading-order quantum chromodynamics. Limits on anomalous triple gauge couplings of Z Z gamma and Z gamma gamma are set that improve on previous experimental results obtained with the charged lepton decay modes of the Z boson.

The dissociation of virtual photons, $\gamma^{\star} p \to X p$, in events with a large rapidity gap between $X$ and the outgoing proton, as well as in events in which the leading proton was directly measured, has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The data cover photon virtualities $Q^2>2$ GeV$^2$ and $\gamma^{\star} p$ centre-of-mass energies $40<W<240$ GeV, with $M_X>2$ GeV, where $M_X$ is the mass of the hadronic final state, $X$. Leading protons were detected in the ZEUS leading proton spectrometer. The cross section is presented as a function of $t$, the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex and $\Phi$, the azimuthal angle between the positron scattering plane and the proton scattering plane. It is also shown as a function of $Q^2$ and $\xpom$, the fraction of the proton's momentum carried by the diffractive exchange, as well as $\beta$, the Bjorken variable defined with respect to the diffractive exchange.

We present results of searches for diphoton resonances produced both inclusively and also in association with a vector boson (W or Z) using 100 $pb^{-1}$ of $p\bar{p}$ collisions using the CDF detector. We set upper limits on the product of cross section times branching ratio for both $p\bar{p} \to \gamma \gamma + X$ and $p \bar{p} \to \gamma \gamma + W/Z$. Comparing the inclusive production to the expectations from heavy sgoldstinos we derive limits on the supersymmetry-breaking scale $\sqrt{F}$ in the TeV range, depending on the sgoldstino mass and the choice of other parameters. Also, using a NLO prediction for the associated production of a Higgs boson with a W or Z boson, we set an upper limit on the branching ratio for $H \to \gamma \gamma$. Finally, we set a lower limit on the mass of a 'bosophilic' Higgs boson (e.g. one which couples only to $\gamma, W,$ and $Z$ bosons with standard model couplings) of 82 GeV/$c^2$ at 95% confidence level.

The interaction of virtual photons is investigated using the reaction e+e- -> e+e- hadrons based on data taken by the OPAL experiment at e+e- centre-of-mass energies sqrt(s_ee)=189-209 GeV, for W>5 GeV and at an average Q^2 of 17.9 GeV^2. The measured cross-sections are compared to predictions of the Quark Parton Model (QPM), to the Leading Order QCD Monte Carlo model PHOJET to the NLO prediction for the reaction e+e- -> e+e-qqbar, and to BFKL calculations. Bottom quark production in pbar-p collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV is studied with 5 inverse picobarns of data collected in 1995 by the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The differential production cross section for b jets in the central rapidity region (|y(b)| < 1) as a function of jet transverse energy is extracted from a muon-tagged jet sample. Within experimental and theoretical uncertainties, DO results are found to be higher than, but compatible with, next-to-leading-order QCD predictions.

We present measurements of the b-bbar production cross section and angular correlations using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p-pbar Collider operating at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. The b quark production cross section for |y(b)|<1.0 and p_T(b)>6 GeV/c is extracted from single muon and dimuon data samples. The results agree in shape with the next-to-leading order QCD calculation of heavy flavor production but are greater than the central values of these predictions. The angular correlations between b and bbar quarks, measured from the azimuthal opening angle between their decay muons, also agree in shape with the next-to-leading order QCD prediction.

We present a measurement of the transverse momentum distribution of dielectron pairs with invariant mass near the mass of the Z boson. The data were obtained using the DO detector during the 1994-1995 run of the Tevatron Co!lider at Fermilab. The data used in the measurement corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 108.5 $pb^{-1}$ The measurement is compared to current phenomenology for vector boson production in proton-antiproton interactions, and the results are found to be consistent with expectation from Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD).

We present results on flux-normalized neutrino and antineutrino cross sections near y=0 from data obtained in the Fermilab narrow-band beam. We conclude that values of σ0=dσdy|y=0 are consistent with rising linearly with energy over the range 45<~Eν<~20.5 GeV. The separate averages of ν and ν¯, each measured to 4%, are equal to well within the errors. The best fit for the combined data gives σ0E=(0.719±0.035)×10−38 cm2/GeV at an average Eν of 100 GeV.

The $Q~{2}$ dependence and the total cross sections for charged and neutral current processes are measured in $e~{\pm}p$ reactions for transverse momenta of the outgoing lepton larger than 25 GeV. Comparable size of cross sections for the neutral current process and for the weak charged current process are observed above $Q~2\approx5000$GeV$~2$. Using the shape and magnitude of the charged current cross section we determine a propagator mass of $m_{W} = 84\ ~{+10}_{-7}$ GeV.
