We present a comprehensive study of the inclusive production of V 0 V 0 pairs (V 0 =Lambda, Lambda-bar or K S ) by Sigma - and pi - of 340 GeV/ c momentum and neutrons of 260 GeV/ c mean momentum in copper and carbon targets. In particular, the de pendence of the x F spectra on the combination of beam-particle and produced V 0 V 0 pair is investigated and compared to predictions obtained from PYTHIA and QSGM calculations. The data and these predictions differ in many details, the agreement can at b est be termed as qualitative. A signal from decays of the tensor meson f? 2 (1525) was observed in the K S K S mass distribution and inclusive production cross sections were measured. No signal was found from the double-strange H-dibaryon decaying to Lamb daLambda.

Production of Sigma- and Lambda(1520) in hadronic Z decays has been measured using the DELPHI detector at LEP. The Sigma- is directly reconstructed as a charged track in the DELPHI microvertex detector and is identified by its Sigma -> n pi decay leading to a kink between the Sigma- and pi-track. The reconstruction of the Lambda(1520) resonance relies strongly on the particle identification capabilities of the barrel Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector and on the ionisation loss measurement of the TPC. Inclusive production spectra are measured for both particles. The production rates are measured to be <N_{Sigma-}/N_{Z}^{had}> = 0.081 +/- 0.002 +/- 0.010, <N_{Lambda(1520)}/N_{Z}^{had}> = 0.029 +/- 0.005 +/- 0.005. The production rate of the Lambda(1520) suggests that a large fraction of the stable baryons descend from orbitally excited baryonic states. It is shown that the baryon production rates in Z decays follow a universal phenomenological law related to isospin, strangeness and mass of the particles.

Investigation of the splitting of quark and gluon jets.

The splitting processes in identified quark and gluon jets are investigated using longitudinal and transverse observables. The jets are selected from symmetric three-jet events measured in Z decays with the Delphi detector in 1991-1994. Gluon jets are identified using heavy quark anti-tagging. Scaling violations in identified gluon jets are observed for the first time. The scale energy dependence of the gluon fragmentation function is found to be about two times larger than for the corresponding quark jets, consistent with the QCD expectation CA/CF. The primary splitting of gluons and quarks into subjets agrees with fragmentation models and, for specific regions of the jet resolution y, with NLLA calculations. The maximum of the ratio of the primary subjet splittings in quark and gluon jets is 2.77±0.11±0.10. Due to non-perturbative effects, the data are below the expectation at small y. The transition from the perturbative to the non-perturbative domain appears at smaller y for quark jets than for gluon jets. Combined with the observed behaviour of the higher rank splittings, this explains the relatively small multiplicity ratio between gluon and quark jets.

The interaction of virtual photons is investigated using double tagged gammagamma events with hadronic final states recorded by the ALEPH experiment at e^+e^- centre-of-mass energies between 188 and 209 GeV. The measured cross section is compared to Monte Carlo models, and to next-to-leading-order QCD and BFKL calculations.

Multijets in photoproduction at HERA

Inspire Record 602140 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.51400

Cross-sections for the photoproduction of events containing four high-$E_{\rm T}$ jets have been measured with the ZEUS detector using an integrated luminosity of 38.7 pb$^{-1}$. At low invariant mass of the four-jet system, $m_{\rm 4J}$, the observed event distributions are sensitive to the underlying event model. The inclusion of multi-parton interactions in Monte Carlo simulations lead to a significantly better description of the data. For $m_{\rm 4J} > 50 $ GeV the data is adequately described by models with no simulation of an underlying event, suggesting that this is a kinematic region suitable for comparison with perturbative QCD calculations.

We have observed Λc baryons in nonresonant e+e− annihilation at energies around s=10.5 GeV through their decay to Λπ+π+π−. We measure the branching fraction to be (2.8 ± 0.7 ± 1.1)%. The momentum spectrum of the Λc is similar to that of charmed mesons, providing a constraint on models of charmed-quark hadronization.

Higher twist effects in the reaction pi- N ---> mu+ mu- X at 253-GeV/c

The distributions of quarks in the pion and nucleon are extracted from measurements of the reaction π−N→μ+μ−X at 253 GeV/c in a naive Drell-Yan analysis, as well as QCD-corrected analyses at leading-log and next-to-leading-log order. As xπ→1 the pion structure function shows a term that varies as 1mμμ4, which we interpret as a higher-twist effect. Additionally, the angular distribution of the μ+ in the muon-pair rest frame tends towards sin2θ as xπ→1 and as mμμ→0 in a manner consistent with higher-twist effects. When the strongly mass-dependent higher-twist effects are included as part of the pion structure function, the nucleon structure function agrees well with leading-twist results from deeply inelastic lepton-hadron scattering. A significant advance of the present work is the extension of the analysis to low masses by the subtraction of the Jψ and ψ′ resonances from the continuum. Our analysis covers the kinematic range 0.4<xπ<1.0 and 0.02<xN<0.33 with 3.0<mμμ<8.55 GeV/c2. Cross sections for ψ′ production are presented in an appendix.

We report results on inclusive production of the charmed baryon Λc+ from e+e− annihilations at s=10.5 GeV. Measurements are presented of the inclusive cross section times branching fraction for the continuum production of Λc+ as observed in six different decay modes, and of a new, improved value of the Λc+ mass. The inclusive cross section times the branching fraction into pK−π+ is measured to be 10.0±1.5±1.5 pb summed over all xp. The branching fractions of Λc+ into pK¯0, pK¯0π+π−, Λπ+, Λπ+π−π+, and Ξ−K+π+ relative to that into pK−π+ are measured to be 0.44±0.07±0.05, 0.43±0.12±0.04, 0.18±0.03±0.03, 0.65±0.11±0.12, and 0.15±0.04±0.03, respectively. The Λc+ mass is measured to be 2284.7±0.6±0.7 MeV/c2. The measured momentum distributions for continuum production of Λc+ are compared to analytical fragmentation functions and to other measurements.

Measurement of the B hadron energy distribution in Z0 decays.

We have measured the B hadron energy distribution in Z0 decays using a sample of semi-leptonic B decays recorded in the SLD experiment at SLAC. The energy of each tagged B hadron was reconstructed using information from the lepton and a partially reconstructed charm-decay vertex. We compared the scaled energy distribution with several models of heavy quark fragmentation. The average scaled energy of primary B hadrons was found to be <x_E_B> = 0.716 +- 0.011 (stat.) +0.022 -0.021 (syst.).
