We report on the first observation of open charm production in neutral current deep inelastic neutrino scattering as seen in the NuTeV detector at Fermilab. The production rate is shown to be consistent with a pure gluon-$% Z^{0}$ boson production model, and the observed level of charm production is used to determine the effective charm mass. As part of our analysis, we also obtain a new measurement for the proton-nucleon charm production cross section at $\sqrt{s}=38.8$ GeV.

We have determined mW=79.91±0.39 GeV/c2 from an analysis of W→eν and W→μν data from the Collider Detector at Fermilab in p¯p collisions at a c.m. energy of √s =1.8 TeV. This result, together with the world-average Z mass, determines the weak mixing angle to be sin2θW=0.232±0.008. Bounds on the top-quark mass are discussed.

Search for doubly-charged Higgs bosons in like-sign dilepton final states at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

Inspire Record 1191430 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.40316

A search for doubly-charged Higgs bosons decaying to pairs of electrons and/or muons is presented. The search is performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb-1 of pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Pairs of prompt, isolated, high-pT leptons with the same electric charge (ee, emu, mumu) are selected, and their invariant mass distribution is searched for a narrow resonance. No significant excess over Standard Model background expectations is observed, and limits are placed on the cross section times branching ratio for pair production of doubly-charged Higgs bosons. The masses of doubly-charged Higgs bosons are constrained depending on the branching ratio into these leptonic final states. Assuming pair production, coupling to left-handed fermions, and a branching ratio of 100% for each final state, masses below 409 GeV, 375 GeV, and 398 GeV are excluded for ee, emu, mumu, respectively.

The A-dependence is observed in $x_F$-distributions for the $\Lambda K^0$ system produced with the small transverse momentum in the neutron-nucleus interactions. For the $\Lambda$ hyperons similar dependence isn't seen. The result is interpreted as an effect from intermediate excitative nucleon state, which decays into strange particles. Such interpretation is confirmed experimental data on $\Lambda K$ pair production in the pion-nucleon interactions.

First observation of the all hadronic decay of t anti-t pairs

We present the first observation of the all hadronic decay of tt¯ pairs. The analysis is performed using 109pb−1 of pp¯ collisions at s=1.8TeV collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We observe an excess of events with five or more jets, including one or two b jets, relative to background expectations. Based on this excess we evaluate the production cross section to be in agreement with previous results. We measure the top mass to be 186±10±12GeV/c2.

Search for heavy W boson in 1.8-TeV p anti-p collisions

A search for a heavy charged gauge boson, W ′, using the decay channels W ′ → eν and W′ → τν → eνν ν is reported. The data used in the analysis were collected by the DØ experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron during the 1992-93 p p collider run from an integrated luminosity of 13.9 ± 0.8 pb −1 at s =1.8 TeV . Assuming that the neutrino from W ′ decay is stable and has a mass significantly less than m W ′ , an upper limit at the 95% confidence level is set on the cross section times branching ratio for p p → W′ → eν . A W ′ with the same couplings to quarks and leptons as the standard model W boson is excluded for m W ′ < 610 GeV/c 2 .

Using data recorded by the CLEO-II detector at CESR, we report the first observation of a narrow state decaying into $\Xi_c~+\pi~-$. The state has mass difference $M(\Xi_c~+\pi~-)-M(\Xi_c~+)$ of $178.2\pm0.5\pm1.0$ $\rm{MeV/c~2}$, and a width of $<5.5$ $\rm{MeV/c~2}$ (90\% confidence level limit). The most likely explanation of this new state is that it is the $J=\32$ spin excitation of the $\Xi_c~0$ charmed baryon.

Search for dark matter candidates and large extra dimensions in events with a photon and missing transverse momentum in pp collision data at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

Results of a search for new phenomena in events with an energetic photon and large missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV are reported. Data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb-1 are used. Good agreement is observed between the data and the Standard Model predictions. The results are translated into exclusion limits on models with large extra spatial dimensions and on pair production of weakly interacting dark matter candidates.
