Measurements were made of the cross section of the reactions π − p → ν ′(958)n, η ′ → 2 γ at momenta at 15, 20, 25, 30 and 40 GeV/c. The experiment was carried out on the IHEP 70 GeV accelerator using the 648 channel hodoscope spectrometer NICE for γ-ray detection. A total of 6000 η′ mesons were recorded. A sharp drop is seen in the differential cross section for t → 0. The dependences of the differential cross sections for the π − p → η ′n and π − p → η n on t are identical. On the basis of the ratio of the cross sections for these reactions at t = 0, i.e. R( η′ n ) t=0 = 0.55 ± 0.06 , the singlet-octet mixing angle for pseudoscalar mesons was determined to be β = −(18.2 ± 1.4)°.

Elements of the spin density matrix for W bosons in e+e- -> W+W- -> qqln events are measured from data recorded by the OPAL detector at LEP. This information is used calculate polarised differential cross-sections and to search for CP-violating effects. Results are presented for W bosons produced in e+e- collisions with centre-of-mass energies between 183 GeV and 209 GeV. The average fraction of W bosons that are longitudinally polarised is found to be (23.9 +- 2.1 +- 1.1)% compared to a Standard Model prediction of (23.9 +- 0.1)%. All results are consistent with CP conservation.

The ρ0-meson spin alignment is studied in p¯p interactions at 22.4 and 12 GeV/c and in the reaction p¯p→2π++2π−+neutrals at 5.7 GeV/c. An essential ρ0-meson spin alignment is observed. The values of the ρ00T element of the ρ0-meson spin-density matrix in the transversity frame are 0.56 ± 0.07, 0.53 ± 0.05, and 0.54 ± 0.04 for the above-mentioned interactions, respectively. An increase of ρ00T with ρ0 transverse momentum is obtained.

We present results of an analysis of two-prong events for elastic scattering and single-pion production in K−p interactions at 5.5 GeVc. The resonance parameters for the charged and neutral K*(890) and K*(1420) are determined and the observed production and decay properties of the charged and neutral K*(890) are compared with the theoretical predictions of an absorptive one-particle-exchange model and a Regge model. The K*(1420) differential cross section and density-matrix elements are presented and the question of whether more than one resonance exists in this mass range is considered. A search for resonance effects at Kπ mass beyond 1500 MeV is made. In particular, the recently reported state at 1800 MeV is discussed. A B5-model analysis of the reaction K−p→K¯0π−p is also presented.

K- d interactions at 5.5 gev/c - sigma-+ pi+- pi-(pi0), sigma- k+, k- and k- pi- p final states in which a hyperon is produced

The results presented in this paper are obtained from an analysis of bubble-chamber pictures of K−d interactions at an incident K− momentum of 5.5 GeV/c. Generally, the quasitwo-body final states are produced peripherally, with a small backward peak occurring in some of the final states. The final states Σ−ω, Σ−ρ0, and Σ−φ appear to be produced primarily by vector-meson exchange. In the final state Λ(1520)π− the decay distributions of the Λ(1520) hyperon are found to be consistent with a vector-exchagne production process with M2 coupling at the nucleon vertex. The predictions of the independent-quark model and of other symmetry schemes, namely that the forward cross sections for Σ−ρ0, Σ−ω, Σ−φ production be in the ratios 1: 1: 2, are not inconsistent with our experimental values.

The reaction K − p → K − π − π + p has been measured at 25 and 40 GeV/ c at the Serpukhov Proton Accelerator. The production cross section at 25 and 40 GeV/ c as a function of momentum transfer and K ππ mass is presented, and results of the partial-wave analysis of the K ππ system yielding information about Q(1300), K ∗ (1400) and L(1770) mesons are discussed.

In an experiment with the CERN 2 metre DBC the reaction K$^+$d $\to$ K$^0 \pi^+$d is studied at an incident momentum of 4.6 GeV/c. The cross section is found to be (66 ± 10) μb for four-momentum transfer squared from target to recoil deuteron greater than 0.02 GeV 2 , and the reaction is dominated by the production of K$^*+$ (892) via natural parity exchange. Using data for the reactions K$^\pm$d $\to$ K$^{*\pm}$(892)d in the incident momentum range 2–13 GeV/ c the parameters of the effective exchanged trajectory are estimated.

PRODUCTION AND DECAY ANGULAR DISTRIBUTIONS OF THE Y* (1385) IN THE LINE REVERSED REACTIONS: pi+ p ---> K+ Y* (1385) AND K- p ---> pi- Y* (1385) AT 11.5-GeV/c

We have measured in a single experimental setup, the differential cross sections and decay angular distributions of the Y ∗ (1385) produced in the two line-reversed reactions: π + p → K + Y ∗+ (1385) (279 events/ω b ) and K − p → π − Y ∗+ (1385) (190 events/ωb) at 11.5 GeV/ c . The data have been derived from a triggered bubble-chamber experiment using the SLAC Hybrid Facility. We find the differential cross sections and Y ∗ polarizations for the two reactions to be in agreement with exchange-degeneracy predictions, if kinematic differences are taken into account. The Stodolsky-Sakurai and additive quark model predictions are in agreement with the main features of the decay angular distributions of the Y ∗ (1385), except for small violations at low momentum transfer, which can be associated with a finite helicity non-flip contribution in the forward direction.

The total and differential cross sections of the reactions K − p → π 0 Λ (1520), ηΛ(1520) and η′ Λ(1520) have been measured. Prominent forward peaks are onserved in all three reactions. The first reaction shows also a backward peak. The spin density matrix elements of the Λ(1520) in this reaction are determined. For forward production the results show a remarkable alignment of the Λ(1520) corresponding to an M2 transition in the model of Stodolsky-Sakurai for 3 2 − baryon production.

We have studied the reaction π − p → X − p followed by the decay X − → ωπ − at 11.2 GeV/ c . The partial-wave analysis in the mass range 1.36–2.0 GeV shows a clear structure in the J P = 3 − , m = 0 wave peaking at 1.67 GeV with a width of ∼0.21 GeV. We interpret this result as resulting from the g → ωπ decay. The differential cross section d σ d t is in agreement with the production of the g-meson through one-pion exchange.
