Two (Δ(1238)ππ) enhancements at 1.93 and 2.12 GeV have been observed in an analysis of the invariant-mass spectra of Δ++(1238)π-π0 and Δ++(1238)π-π- from π-p→π-pπ+π-π0 events in 4.5 GeV/c π-p interactions. An enhancement at 2.2 GeV is also seen with a dominant branching to the Δ(1238)ρ system. The 1.93 and 2.12 enhancements seem to be produced mainly through a ρ-meson exchange process. The 2.2 GeV enhancement seems to be produced diffractively and is considered to correspond to theG17(2190) state.

Measurement of $\pi^{\pm}$p Backward Elastic Scattering Between 30 and 90 GeV/c

Phys.Rev.Lett. 43 (1979) 1635, 1979.
Inspire Record 141766 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20758

Measurements of π±p backward elastic scattering have been made for incident pion momenta between 30 and 90 GeV/c and for 0<−u<0.5 (GeV/c)2. The momentum dependence of the cross sections is of a form expected from a simple Regge model, and the u dependence of the cross sections is similar to that observed at lower momenta.

Charged $\rho$ Photoproduction in the Energy Range 2.8-{GeV} - 4.8-{GeV}

Barber, D.P. ; Dainton, J.B. ; Lee, L.C.Y. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 2 (1979) 1-6, 1979.
Inspire Record 140681 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.16353

Measurements of the photoproduction processes γρ→ρ+n and γρ→ρ-Δ++ (1236) are reported in the energy range 2.8 to 4.8 GeV. The data show shrinkage of the differential cross section in this energy region for the process γρ→ρ-Δ++ (1236); no shrinkage is observed for the ρ+n process. The energy dependences of the ρ+n and ρ-Δ++ (1236) total cross sections are much steeper than current model prediction. The ρ spin density matrices for each process are also presented.

STUDY OF THE REACTION P (polarized) P ---> N DELTA++ AT 6-GEV/C WITH POLARIZED BEAM

We have studied the reaction p↑p→nΔ++ at 6 GeV/c incident momentum in which the incident protons are 60% transversely polarized. The experiment used the Argonne National Laboratory Zero Gradient Synchrotron polarized beam and the 12-foot hydrogen bubble chamber. We report on about 6000 Δ++ events, with the Δ++ produced in the backward hemisphere in the c.m. system. Spin-density matrix elements as a function of momentum transfer are presented and small beam-polarization-induced effects are described.

Y* K AND Y* K* PRODUCTION IN pi+ p INTERACTIONS AT 10.3-GeV/c

Phys.Rev.D 19 (1979) 1350, 1979.

The reactions π+p→Σ+(1385)K+ and π+p→Σ+(1385)K*+(890) are examined. The Σ+(1385)K+ differential cross section for −t′<0.5 GeV2 and spin density matrix elements agree with a Regge-pole model incorporating (nondegenerate) vector and tensor K* exchange with dominant M1 coupling. The Σ+(1385)K*+(890) density matrix elements are consistent with the quark-additivity predictions. A Y*+ at a mass of 1700 MeV is also observed in the Λπ+ mass distribution, produced opposite both K+ and K*+(890).

STUDY OF DIFFRACTION DISSOCIATION AND DOUBLE RESONANCE PRODUCTION IN THE FINAL STATE ANTI-P P PI+ PI- AT 7.2-GEV/C

Inspire Record 146767 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.34665

On 8 K events of the reaction p p π + π − at 7.23 GeV/ c simple selection on angular parameters is performed yielding a sample of events with the typical features of diffraction dissociation. A cross section of 1.22 ± 0.08 mb (in two vertices) and a slope of the t distribution of 12.6 ± 1.0 GeV −2 for − t < 0.1 GeV 2 are obtained for the diffraction fraction dissociation p → p π + π − + c.c. Using an analogous selection procedure, another sample of events is isolated that is characterized by double resonance production. Cross sections for Δ Δ and Δ Δ ′ + c.c. production amount to 1.27 ± 0.09 mb and 0.23 ± 0.07 mb respectively. Diffraction dissociation and double resonance production together make up for 87% of the total cross section for the reaction p p → p p π + π − , which is 3.11 ± 0.13 mb.

PRODUCTION OF PHOTONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE PSI BY 217-GEV/C PI- MESONS

Dimuon production is studied in 217-GeV/c π−-hydrogen and π−-beryllium collisions with a lead-glass array to detect photons associated with the ψ. The ψ−γ mass spectrum shows a 2.6-standard-deviation excess of events above background at ∼3.5 GeV. This excess, if attributed to the decay χ(∼3.5)→ψγ, implies that 0.70±0.28 of the ψ's are produced via radiative decay of one of the χ states.

High-statistics measurements of the absolute differential cross section for n−p scattering have been made over neutron c.m.-system scattering angles 9.5°<θ*<64.5°. The statistical error is 1.7 to 3.3% for 2°-wide angular bins, and the systematic error is 2.7 to 3.3%. The cross section is fitted by dσdΩ*=A exp(bt), with A=10.27±0.36 mb/sr, b=5.00±0.05, and 0.01<−t<0.39 (GeV/c)2. For the ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the forward-scattering amplitude we obtained αn>~−0.43±0.04, consistent with other less precise determinations of αn.
