We present the multiplicity distributions of the hadrons produced in antineutrinoproton interactions. The data sample, which consists of 2025 charged-current events with antineutrino energy greater than 5 GeV, comes from exposures of the 15-foot hydrogen bubble chamber to the broad-band antineutrino beam at Fermilab. The distribution in hadronic mass W has an average value of 3.7 GeV but extends up to 10 GeV. The mean multiplicity of charged hadrons depends on the hadronic mass W and varies as 〈nch〉=(−0.44±0.13)+(1.48±0.06)lnW2 for W2>4 GeV2. The mean multiplicities for events with three or more charged tracks averaged over the total data sample are 〈n−〉=1.68±0.03 and 〈n0〉=1.11±0.07 for π− and π0 production, respectively. The mean π0 multiplicity is found to increase slowly with n−. The integrated correlation coefficient f2−− and the dispersion D− are given as a function of n−. When compared to the distributions characteristic of other leptonic and hadronic reactions, we find a similarity between the ν¯ data and results from hadronic reactions that have no diffractive component. Multiplicity data for the heavier particles K0, ρ0, and Λ are also summarized. The pion multiplicities in the current fragmentation region exceed those for the target fragmentation at all W values. They also satisfy the isospin relation 2〈n0〉=〈n+〉+〈n−〉 required for the fragmentation of an I=12 quark when a W>4 GeV selection is imposed.

Experimental Study of Differential Cross-sections in Charged Current Neutrino and Anti-neutrinos Interactions

The CHARM collaboration Jonker, M. ; Panman, J. ; Udo, F. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 109 (1982) 133-140, 1982.
Inspire Record 168613 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.6668

Inclusive neutrino and antineutrino charged-current interactions were studied using the electronic detector of the CHARM Collaboration exposed to the narrow-band beam of the CERN SPS. The relative contributions of quarks and antiquarks to the neutrino cross sections were deduced from the differential cross sectionsdσ/d y . The x and Q 2 dependence of the structure functions F 2 and F 3 were measured. Scaling violations were observed, in qualitative agreement with QCD. A value of the mass scale parameter of QCD,Λ = [0.29 ± 0.12 (stat.) ± 0.10 (syst.)] GeV, was deduced in a leading-order approximation, following the method of Buras and Gaemers.

Muon Pairs and Upper Limit for $\Upsilon$ Production by 280-{GeV} Muons

Nucl.Phys.B 199 (1982) 27, 1982.
Inspire Record 169127 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.34208

The high mass μ + μ − pairs produced by 280 GeV μ + on a carbon target are studied in a search for the Y production. The high mass continuum in the region 2–18 GeV is interpreted in terms of QED pair production and of μ pairs originating from the decay of hidden and open charm particles as well as of hadrons ( π , K) from deep inelastic interactions. The upper limit for the upsilon production by muons is found to be, at the 90% confidence level, σ γ ·(γ→μ + μ − )<13·10 −39 cm 2 /nucleon.

Total Cross-sections for $\nu_\mu$ and $\bar{\nu}_\mu$ Charged Current Interactions Between 20-{GeV} and 200-{GeV}

Exposures of the Ne/H 2 filled Big European Bubble Chamber (BEBC) to a dichromatic neutrino (antineutrino) beam produced by 400 GeV protons of the CERN SPS yielded ∼ 3100 events with a negative, and ∼ 1100 with a positive, muon. The neutrino flux is determined from the muon flux in the shielding. Assuming a linear energy dependence of the cross section, the values σ E between 20 and 200 GeV are found to be 0.657 ± 0.012 (stat.) ± 0.027 (syst.) and 0.309 ± 0.009 (stat.) ± 0.013 (syst.) cm 2 (GeV nucleon) −1 , for neutrinos and antineutrinos, respectively. The scaling variable q 2 E decreases significantly with increasing energy both for neutrinos and antineutrinos.

The Fermilab 15-ft bubble chamber, filled with a heavy neon-hydrogen mix, was exposed to a narrow-band νμ beam. Based on the observation of 830 charged-current νμ interactions, the cross section was found consistent with a linear rise with the neutrino energy in the interval 10 GeV<~Eν≲240 GeV. The average slope was determined to be σνEν=(0.62±0.05)×10−38 cm2 GeV−1.

From 12000 charged-current νμ D events obtained in an exposure of the Fermilab 15-ft bubble chamber to a high-energy wide-band neutrino beam, the absolute neutrino flux is determined using the reaction νμn→μ−p. For the total charged-current cross section, σt=kEν, k=(0.68±0.04±0.10)×10−38 cm2/GeV is obtained for Eν between 10 and 200 GeV. No clear energy dependence of the slope parameter k is observed.

Total Cross-sections for Muon-neutrino $N$ and Muon-neutrino $P$ Charged Current Interactions in the 7-ft Bubble Chamber

The total cross sections for νμn and νμp charged-current interactions and their ratio R=σT(νn)σT(νp) have been measured as a function of neutrino energy from 0.4 to 10 GeV. The experiment is performed using the BNL 7-foot deuterium bubble chamber exposed to the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron wide-band neutrino beam. The absolute values of the cross sections are normalized to the quasielastic scattering (νμn→μ−p) cross section. Above 1.6 GeV the data are consistent with the quark-parton model. We find that σT(νn)Eν=(1.07±0.05)×10−38, σT(νp)Eν=(0.54±0.04)×10−38, and σT(νN)Eν=(0.80±0.03)×10−38 cm2/GeV for 〈Eν〉=3.2 GeV, and R=1.95±0.10 for 〈Eν〉=3.7 GeV.
