Elastic scattering of hadrons on protons has been measured at momenta of 50, 100, and 200 GeV/c. The meson-proton scattering is found to be independent of momentum and meson type for −t>0.8 (GeV/c)2. The momentum dependence of the pp dip at −t=1.4 (GeV/c)2 was investigated. Slope parameters are given.

New experimental results are reported on diffractive dissociation of protons into (nπ + ) in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 45 GeV . The data were obtained using the Split-Field-Magnet detector at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings. We have searched for resonance contributions and found peaks at mass values of 1.5 GeV, 1.65 GeV, and 2.1 GeV. A dip in d σ d t is observed at low t and low mass; it is most pronounced for events with neutrons emitted at 90° in the Gottfried-Jackson frame. The correlation between mass and slope depends strongly on θ J . The cross section of the channel pp → pnπ + is 400 ± 110 μb at s = 45 GeV , giving an energy dependence of s −0.30±0.07 for isospin exchange zero in this channel.

SIG(P P --> P N PI+) IS NEARLY EQUAL TO SIG(P P --> P (N PI+)) WHICH WAS ACTUALLY MEASURED, SINCE THE CROSS SECTION OF THE REACTION P P --> N (P PI+) IS LESS THAN .1 MUB AS MEASURED BY N. KWAK ET AL., PL 62B, 359, 1976.

The inclusive spectra for p p collisions at 22.4 GeV/ c are investigated. We show that the transverse momentum distributions resemble those in high-energy pp interactions and discuss the influence of annihilation processes on the p T 2 distributions. The invariant inclusive cross section for pions in the central region is found to be 28 ± 1 mb. A charge asymmetry is indicated by the y ∗ spectrum in the central region, the asymmetry parameter having the value 0.15 ± 0.01. Finally, we estimate the upper limit of the diffraction dissociation of the beam particle to be 3.68 −0.15 +0.45 mb.

Reactions K + n → (K π )N have been studied using data from the CERN 2 m deuterium bubble chamber obtained with incident K + of 8.25 GeV/ c . There is an abundant production of K ∗ (892) and K ∗ (1420). The reaction and K ∗ resonance production cross sections are presented. K ∗ production and decay angular distributions are analyzed. Charge-exchange reactions are dominated by unnatural parity exchange and the non-charge-exchange reaction by natural parity exchange. The K ∗ 0 (892) data are in good agreement with the predictions of an OPE absorption model. A broad enhancement around 1850 MeV could be interpreted as a signal for the K ∗ 0 (1780).

We have performed a simultaneous measurement of the large transverse momentum (1.6 to 3.8 GeV/ c ) yields of single photons and of photon pairs at 90° production angle in pp collisions at ISR energies. Production cross sections for each of these two processes are compared.

Total cross sections of K−p and K−d have been measured between 410 and 1070 MeV/c with high statistical precision. In addition to the well known Λ(1520), Λ(1820), and Σ(1769), we confirmed the presence of the Λ(1692) and the Σ(1670). We have also observed several structures which could be Y* resonances: Λ(1646), Λ(1735), Σ(1583), Σ(1608), Σ(1633), and Σ(1715).

A comparison of K±p and p±p elastic scattering is made for incident energy 50 to 175 GeV. Average values of 0.19±0.04 and 0.11±0.02 GeV2 were found for the invariant-momentum-transfer values of the Kp and pp crossover points, respectively.
KP AND PP CROSSOVER POINTS AT -T = 0.19 +- 0.04 AND 0.11 +- 0.02 GEV**2 (AVERAGE VALUES) RESPECTIVELY.
We present the results of an experiment to study the reaction π−p→A2−p, A2−→KS0K− at 22.4 and 23.9 GeV/c. We have 3346 KS0K− events in the effective mass region 1.1 to 1.5 GeV, and covering the |t′| interval 0.0 to 1.0 (GeV/c)2. Because of the low background in this channel, we are able to study various |t′| regions, including the region 0.2 to 0.29 (GeV/c)2 in which the original split A2 peak was observed. We find no substructure in any region. We have also derived differential and total cross sections. The differential cross sections are well fitted by the form dσdt′=At′ebt′ with b≈7.0 (GeV/c)−2. The total cross section is in good agreement with the value derived from other experiments that measure the A2−→ρ0π− decay mode.

Measurements of the differential cross section for the inclusive production of high-energy π0's are reported for the reactions π±p→π0X at a laboratory momentum of 14 GeV/c. The kinematic range covered, in terms of the Feynman scaling variable x and the transverse momentum P⊥, is 0.25≤x≤1.0 and 0≤P⊥≤0.7 GeV/c. Two spectrometers, both employing large NaI(Tl) crystals, are used to detect the π0's and to identify them with a mass resolution of 17 MeV (full width at half maximum). The results are in accord with the hypothesis of limiting fragmentation, which regards the measured reactions, in the kinematic range covered, as examples of disfavored fragmentation.
