This paper reports measurements of the hadrons produced in the inelastic scattering of 147-GeV muons by protons and deuterons in an experiment carried out at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Both the scattered muon and the hadrons were measured in a large spectrometer. Properties of the hadron spectra are presented for proton, deuteron, and neutron targets and compared with theoretical models and with hadron spectra from related processes. Emphasis is placed on the quark-parton model and the data are found to be in substantial agreement with it. The average transverse momentum of the hadrons with respect to the virtual photon direction shows no dependence on the muon scattering variables. The data display "jet behavior" of the inclusive hadrons comparable to that found in e+e− annihilations.

Evidence for the Upsilon'' and a Search for New Narrow Resonances

The production of the ϒ family in proton-nucleus collisions is clarified by a sixfold increase in statistics. Constraining ϒ,ϒ′ masses to those observed at DORIS we find the statistical significance of the ϒ′′ to be 11 standard deviations. The dependence of ϒ production on pt, y, and s is presented. Limits for other resonance production in the mass range 4-18 GeV are determined.

Reaction $\pi^- p \to \eta n$ in the 15-{GeV}/$c$ to 40-{GeV}/$c$ Momentum Range

Inspire Record 133409 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.41487

A high-statistics measurement of the reaction π − p→ η n; η →2 γ has been performed at the 70 GeV Serpukhov accelerator for 15, 20, 25, 30 and 40 GeV/ c incident pion momentum using the NICE set-up with its associated 648-channel hodoscope spectrometer for γ-ray detection. It is found that the spin-flip and non-spin-flip amplitudes can be parametrized, for small | t |, as exponentials with the same slopes to within a few percent. For | t | ≳ 1 (GeV/ c ) 2 there is a break in the differential cross section. In addition, the A 2 effective trajectory deviates markedly for | t | ≳ 1 GeV/ c ) 2 from the linear behaviour valid for smaller | t |.

The inclusive production of ϱ 0 mesons in pp collisions has been measured at five c.m. energies from √ s = 23.6 to 63.0 GeV. The cross sections and the production spectra as a function of transverse momentum and rapidity are discussed.

Hadronic Cross-sections Study in $e^+ e^-$ Collisions From 1.350-{GeV} to 2.125-{GeV}

The results of the first experiment performed at DCI in e + e − annihilations in the c.m. energy range 1.350–2.125 GeV region are presented. The cross sections of various multipion channels are extracted. Significant structure appears in some specific channels. A relatively narrow resonance around 1.660 GeV decaying into 3 π 's is found. Charged and neutral multiplicities, and also the ratio R are given.

Particle and Anti-particle Production by 200 GeV/c Protons in the Charged Hyperon Beam at the CERN SPS

A charge hyperon beam has been brought into operation at the CERN SPS. Particles are identified by a DISC Čerenkov counter, and decay products are analysed by a magnetic spectrometer. Cross sections for the inclusive production of π + , K + , p , Σ + , Σ − , ζ − , d, and π − , K − , p , Σ + , Σ − , ζ − , ω − , d in the forward direction have been measured at laboratory momenta between 70 and 130 GeV/ c . This range of momenta corresponds to 0.35 ⩽ x ⩽ 0.66 for an incident proton momentum of 200 GeV/ c . Antihyperon ( Σ − , ζ − , Σ + ) and Σ + and ω − fluxes have been measured for the first time in a hyperon beam.

Measurement of Shadowing in Photon - Nucleus Total Cross Sections From 20 to 185 GeV

Caldwell, David O. ; Cumalat, John P. ; Eisner, A.M. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 42 (1979) 553, 1979.
Inspire Record 132972 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20769

We have measured total hadronic photoproduction cross sections on carbon, copper, and lead. Tagged-photon energies ranged from 20 to 185 GeV for copper and from 45 to 82 GeV for carbon and lead. The energy and A dependence of shadowing were computed by comparing these results to the hydrogen cross section as measured nearly simultaneously with the same apparatus. We observed somewhat more shadowing than did most experiments at lower photon energies.

INCLUSIVE PRODUCTION OF K*+- (890) AND SIGMA+- (1385) RESONANCES IN ANTI-P P INTERACTIONS AT 14.75-GEV/C

Phys.Rev.D 20 (1979) 1029-1036, 1979.
Inspire Record 144992 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24210

The inclusive and semi-inclusive cross sections for K*±(890) and Σ±(1385) resonances are determined in p¯p interactions at 14.75 GeV/c. They account for a large fraction of the KS0 and Λ0 produced. The K*-resonance production also affects the low-pT2 distribution of inclusive KS0. The x distributions of the resonance production are studied in terms of a simple quark-recombination model.

CHARGED AND NEUTRAL PARTICLE PRODUCTION FROM 400-GEV/C P P COLLISIONS

Phys.Rev.D 20 (1979) 605-614, 1979.
Inspire Record 146628 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24207

Charged- and neutral-particle production from 400-GeV/c pp collisions are measured simultaneously using the Fermilab 15-ft bubble chamber. The π0 and K0 cross sections are rising at Fermilab energies, while the Λ0 cross section remains fairly constant. Similarly, the average number of π0's and K0's increases as a function of the number of negative particles in an event, yet no such dependence is noted for the Λ0's. The ratio of average number of π0 to average number of π− per inelastic collisions is found to be constant at Serpukhov and Fermilab energies (40 to 400 GeV/c) and equal to 1.22±0.02. Cross sections for Σ0 and Σ¯0 production are measured and limits are found for η0 and ω0 production. Neutral- and charged-pion correlations are compared with five pion-production models.

STUDY OF THE REACTION P (polarized) P ---> N DELTA++ AT 6-GEV/C WITH POLARIZED BEAM

Eisner, R.L. ; Fickinger, W.J. ; Malko, J.A. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 20 (1979) 596-600, 1979.
Inspire Record 146629 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24197

We have studied the reaction p↑p→nΔ++ at 6 GeV/c incident momentum in which the incident protons are 60% transversely polarized. The experiment used the Argonne National Laboratory Zero Gradient Synchrotron polarized beam and the 12-foot hydrogen bubble chamber. We report on about 6000 Δ++ events, with the Δ++ produced in the backward hemisphere in the c.m. system. Spin-density matrix elements as a function of momentum transfer are presented and small beam-polarization-induced effects are described.
